A man convicted of raping and murdering a woman in 1988 was executed by injection Wednesday night. Authorities said he was the first Nevada convict to be sentenced to death based solely on DNA evidence. "Allah is great, Allah is great," Daryl Linnie Mack, a black man, said before he died. He was pronounced dead at 9:06 p.m. Mack had said he would rather be executed than spend the rest of his life in prison. He claimed he didn't strangle Betty Jane May, 55, in the Reno boarding house where she lived. Mack was serving a life sentence in prison for murdering Kim Parks in 1994 in a Reno motel when he was linked to May's murder. A homicide detective reviewing inactive cases noticed blood and semen samples that had never been tested. Such DNA tests had not been developed at the time of May's slaying. A database search found a match in Mack. He was sentenced to death in 2002. - (crime) - (Black-on-White) Ref: White victim Betty Jane May never learned to drive. Instead, she rode her bike or walked when she had errands around town. Described as a tiny, quiet woman by her daughter, May had "a tender heart for cats," loved reading mystery books to her kids and introduced them to music. After her children were grown, she and her military husband divorced and she moved into a room at a boarding house in southwest Reno. On Oct. 28, 1988, a friend who stopped by to borrow money found May slumped over her bed, with bruises on her arms and legs and blood stains on her blue blouse. She had been strangled and brutally raped. |
New Charges for Black Bouncer Accused of Slaying - also tried to abduct another college student last year in Queens NEW YORK -- A bouncer charged in the death of a graduate student found raped, strangled and suffocated after a night out at a bar also tried to abduct another college student last year in Queens, a law enforcement official said. Darryl Littlejohn was expected to be arraigned Thursday morning on new charges, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the indictment was still sealed.

Black charged with shooting officer and kidnapping and rape of 17-year-old girl CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- A man currently in jail for allegedly shooting a police officer was charged Monday in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a teenager last year. Police said Charles E. Hebron abducted a 17-year-old girl from the Coral Springs Mall on April 1, 2005, drove her to an apartment complex and raped her. Police said they were able to match a piece of duct tape used over the victim's eyes to a roll of tape found in his apartment. Hebron is already behind bars and charged with the shooting of Margate police Officer Chad Ryen on April 16, 2005, less than a month after he allegedly kidnapped and raped the 17-year-old girl. Following the shooting, K-9 units tracked Hebron to a Dumpster at a nearby shopping center, where he was arrested. A search of the area where Hebron was hiding revealed the gun that was used in the shooting, police said. Police said Hebron later admitted to possessing the gun and shooting Ryen. - (crime) |

Superintendent Also Charged With Failing To Report Rape   INDIANAPOLIS -- Nine former workers at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center have been charged with having sex with teenage female detainees aged 13 to 15. Also, the center's superintendent is charged with neglect of a dependent and obstruction of justice for allegedly failing for six years to report the rape of a girl housed at the center on Indianapolis' northeast side. The superintendent, Damon Ellison, knew six years ago that at least two of the alleged victims had been molested, but did nothing to stop it. Five of the guards were arrested by Monday afternoon. They were Wayne Vaughn, Tony H. Martin Jr., Merit McKinnie, Anthony Tyler and Frank Hunt. Arrest warrants were issued for Ellison and the four other guards: Donnorris Harvey, Kelly Stewart, Bobby Clayton and Kevin Patterson.

Orlando Woman Ambushed, Raped At Knifepoint by "Hispanic man" Police in Orlando, Fla., are searching for an Hispanic man on suspicion he ambushed a woman and then raped her at knifepoint near the University of Central Florida campus. A woman was walking along University Boulevard Monday at 5 a.m. when she said a man jumped from some bushes, put a knife to her throat and pulled her into his car. The victim said the man drove her to a neighborhood located near the University of Central Florida campus and then raped her on the ground near some apartments. Off-duty White policeman gunned down by two feral blacks while trying to protect a female friend from their gunfire    South Bend, IN - Emotions ran high Monday, as the community continues to look back on the life of Corporal Scott Severns.
Charges were filed against the teens accused of his murder Monday afternoon.
The South Bend Police Corporal died Sunday. He was gunned down Friday night on the city's eastside, during an armed robbery attempt.
Severns was off-duty and in civilian clothes at the time of shooting.
He was shot three times after he moved to protect a female friend from gunfire. Two (black) teenagers are in police custody, accused in Corporal Severns' death.
Seventeen-year-old Jeffrey Finley, a junior at Clay High School, was released from Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Monday morning.
He was injured when Corporal Severns returned fire.

Police examining death of woman in apartment  Fayetteville police expect preliminary autopsy results today in the death of a young woman found slain in her apartment Saturday. Police Lt. Mike Reynolds said the body of 21-year-old Bethany Nina June Ingram was found in the bedroom of her home at the Law Quad Apartments. Her boyfriend Brandon Sanders, 20 , of Nashville, Ark., was charged in Washington County Circuit Court with first-degree murder. Teens Charged In Rape, Robbery At Apartment KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Prosecutors have charged three teenagers in connection with a rape and robbery at a Grandview apartment complex. DeShaun T. Posey and Keith T. Echols, both 17, are charged with rape, sodomy, kidnapping, robbery, burglary and armed criminal action. Posey and Echols were charged as adults. A third boy, 16, was charged as a juvenile. His name was not released. Investigators allege the teens used a gun to force their way into an apartmen. A man visiting the apartment was shoved out. Sex offender charged in incident at Sibley Building A convicted sex offender already facing charges of attempted rape is now charged in connection with an incident at the Sibley Building in March.
Police have charged 45-year old Michael Parker in connection with one of the attacks.
Rochester Police say Parker followed a female into a bathroom and made inappropriate sexual advances. The victim also says she was punched in the face. The victim is a student at the MCC Damon Campus in Rochester. This past weekend, he was arrested in Greece for allegedly attacking a woman at a Greece garden store. Park recently was released from jail. In 2004, he sexually assualted an underage girl at a Greece park. |

Timothy Berthold told investigators a voice told him to stab Christine Hemphill. Police said they linked Berthold to the murder through DNA already in their database. Police: Suspect may be linked to multiple rape incidents Indianapolis - There is still no arrest in the case of an Indianapolis school teacher raped twice after she left work. However, police say they are close to a break in the case. Darrien Allen admitted to a sexual assault and more. The 19-year-old is a person of interest in a string of rapes. Investigators say they have a trail of evidence against Allen. "We also have the victim identifying the suspect from a photo array," said Sgt. Michael Hasty. On April 13th a woman was working alone at Labor Ready temp agency. She says her attacker came in, signed up for temp work and asked to use the restroom. Black Suspect From colorado Beats White Texas Police Officer - Civilian comes to officer's rescue A police officer in McKinney, Texas, was injured during a brutal attack by a motorist during a traffic stop. Officer Russell May's dash camera was rolling when he responded to a disturbance call. A man, who police identified as Joshua Jones, was then shown jumping out of the vehicle and attacking the officer for no apparent reason. "When he hit me I figured he was going to take off and run," May said. "That's what a lot of them do." "I realized this is for keeps and he really wants to inflict some harm if not try and kill me," May said. A Good Samaritan stepped in and helped the injured officer as witnesses called 911 for help. | African-American male breaks into home and murders 59-year-old woman - her son shoots him dead in self defense FORT WASHINGTON, Md. -- Prince George's County police have released more information about a double-homicide that happened Wednesday night at a home in Fort Washington, Md. Police said officers went to a home on the report of a breaking and entering. When officers arrived, they discovered two homicide victims and a man inside the house. Police said one victim was 59-year-old Patricia Caniglia, the female resident of the house, and the other was the apparent suspect of the breaking and entering and the person who shot and killed Caniglia. Investigators said the suspect entered the home and confronted Caniglia. At some point, the suspect shot and killed Caniglia and then turned on her 24-year-old son, Antonio Caniglia, who was in another part of the house. Church Leader Charged With Carnal Knowledge of 14 years old Girl Police in Alexandria, Va., have charged a church leader with carnal knowledge of a juvenile for alleged sexual contact with an Alexandria girl. Investigators arrested 33-year-old Richard R. Bates of Fort Washington, Md. Bates is a deacon with St. John’s Baptist Church in Alexandria, police said. The alleged victim's family contacted police April 12, and after a thorough investigation, detectives determined that the suspect had sexual contact with the victim when she was 14 years old. 6 black family members killed by relative in Pennsylvania mourned in NYC Six people slain in rural Pennsylvania were memorialized Wednesday evening in New York City, where the family lived for decades before trading in urban streets for what was supposed to be a quieter life in the country.

Convicted felon accused in a brutal rape nearly 10 years ago has taken a plea bargain.  BAKERSFIELD - A convicted felon accused in a brutal rape nearly 10 years ago has taken a plea bargain. Jason Ellis pleaded no contest to charges of rape with an enhancement that will get him 25 years to life in prison.
Ellis was charged with the decade-old rape after a DNA sample taken in prison matched the rapist’s DNA in the federal data base.
Ellis already was serving time for robbery.
He is scheduled to be sentenced May 15. |
Man Sentenced to Life for Rape of a Six-Year-Old Girl A Norfolk judge sentenced a man to life plus thirty years behind bars for rape of a young girl. George Jones has been convicted three times of molesting children. Jones was found guilty of rape, aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties against a 6-year-old girl.
Jones was convicted in 1976 of five rape counts against a child. In 1986, a judge convicted him of attempted sodomy against an 8-year-old.

Rape suspect accused of shooting two police officers faces judge CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Christopher Ellerbe, the man accused of shooting two police officers earlier this month, appeared in court for the first time Tuesday. Ellerbe, 33, was arrested Monday, shortly after being released from the hospital. He faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. He also faces a rape charge in South Carolina.

Rape Suspect Escorted From Court At Gunpoint An Omaha man accused of raping two women erupted inside a courtroom on Monday, knocking over the defense table. Eric Lewis was in a preliminary hearing on two first-degree sexual assault, weapons and robbery charges. He is accused of raping one woman at the College of St. Mary's last December, and two days later raping another woman in a building near Methodist Hospital. Lewis was escorted out of the courtroom at gunpoint after his outburst. |
School Security Guard Accused Of Having Sex With Student  Colo. -- A school school security guard for Rangeview High School was arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with a 16-year-old student. Marcus M. Stanton, 29, was arrested Friday afternoon and admitted to a school resource officer that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student, which lasted two to three weeks, starting in mid-December of last year and ending in early January, Aurora police said. The school resource officer arrested Stanton after staff members gave the officer information that indicated that one of their campus monitors had been sexually involved with a student. Stanton faces a charge of sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. |

Dark Demon Sex Offender Charged With Kidnap-Rape-Kill of White 11-year-old Jacksonville Girl In 1996  Fla. -- A Connecticut sex offender will be returned to Florida to face a murder charge after being linked to the decade-old rape and drowning of an 11-year-old girl through a database of DNA from convicted sex offenders. Robert Shelton Mitchell, 43, was being held on a $5 million bond after being arraigned as a fugitive. He will face first-degree murder and capital sexual battery charges in the death of Cherie Morrisette of Jacksonville. The Mandarin Middle School student body was found on Dec. 8, 1996, floating in the St. John's River about 10 miles south of the apartment she shared with her mother and sister. An autopsy determined that Cherie drowned shortly after her disappearance on Dec. 2, 1996, and was alive when she either fell into the river or was thrown in. Police labeled the death suspicious, and authorities found a small DNA sample on her underwear and body. Mitchell lived in nearby Middleburg at the time of the girl's death, police said Thursday.
