Ohio executes brazen killer of drug-dealing rivals A drug dealer who murdered his rivals and later broke into a juvenile jail to try to kill his accomplices in that crime was put to death on Tuesday, Ohio prison officials said. Willie "Flip" Williams, Jr., 48, did not ask for clemency and died at 10:20 a.m. EDT after a lethal injection at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. He turned down an offer of a special meal the night before and had only a cup of coffee. Williams had returned to his hometown of Youngstown in 1991 after serving a prison stint in California for dealing cocaine and sought to reclaim control of drug sales in a public housing project. In one brazen move, Williams went to the local police station and tried unsuccessfully to gain information about local drug dealers. In what became known as the "Labor Day Massacre," Williams enlisted the help of his 16-year-old girlfriend, her brother and a friend to set up the three men who had taken over the drug trade. William Dent, Alfonda Madison and Eric Howard were bound, along with a friend who came to visit, recently discharged Air Force Sgt. Theodore Wynn, and Williams strangled or shot them, prosecutors said. - (crime) |

Jurors To Deliberate Cop Killer's Punishment HOUSTON -- Jurors are expected to begin deliberating the punishment for a convicted cop killer Thursday. Alfred Dewayne Brown, 23, was found guilty of capital murder Tuesday in the April 3, 2003, slaying of officer Charles R. Clark, 45, at a check-cashing store. Prosecutors said Brown shot Clark in the head as the patrolman tried to stop a holdup at an Ace America's Cash Express in southeast Houston. Store clerk Alfredia Jones, 27, was also killed. Clark was killed the day before his 20th anniversary and within weeks of his scheduled retirement with HPD, and Jones had returned to work from maternity leave the day of the shooting. Brown is the second man to stand trial in the incident. Elijah Dwayne Joubert, 26, was convicted last year of capital murder for Jones' slaying and sentenced to death. Dashan V. Glaspie, 23, has pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in a deal limiting his sentence to 30 years if he testifies truthfully against his cohorts, prosecutors said. Clark's pistol jammed after he fired one shot. Prosecutors said Brown fired both shots that hit Clark -- one grazed his shoulder and the other struck his head at close range. - (another angry white) - (crime) - (Black-on-White) |

Minneapolis police arrest "rapist, robber, burglar" Lamont Minneapolis police finally got their ogre. Lamont McGee has been sought in a string of crimes that have taken place in South Minneapolis over the past month or so. Among the crimes he's suspected of committing is the rape and kidnapping of a 62-year-old woman on Tuesday. The woman was kidnapped early Tuesday morning as she walked to a bus stop. Police say McGee, and an accomplice who's been already arrested, forced her into a car and raped her. Then they drove her to her apartment where she says a variety of items were stolen. A short time later, McGee confronted a woman on a south Minneapolis street, robbed her and then fondled her. McGee is growing increasingly bold, "He's a rapist, he's a robber and he'll do anything". McGee is also suspected in an attack on another woman this past Sunday. And they believe he is likely responsible for a series of other sexual assaults and robberies in south Minneapolis. - (Dr William Pierce, Brewski) - (crime) |

Mother, Child Deaths Go to Trial after a six-year delay in justice Six years after allegedly murdering a young mother and her 2-year-old daughter, a man from Jonesboro, Ga., is set to go to trial Friday. Suspect Wesley Harris maintains he is being framed for the deaths of 22-year-old Whitney Land and Jordan, her 2-year-old daughter. However, he did admit to police that he set fire to the car where police found the mother and daughter dead the day after they disappeared from a park. Friday counts as the third attempt at trying the murder case after two previous attempts were scrapped due to technicalities. “I really thought this time, when we got to jury selection, that this was really it. It was really going to happen,” Whitney’s mother, Sheila Howell, said last March after the second attempt to get Harris’ murder trial underway. - (NNN Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-White) |

Rapist Migrant from the Bahamas Makes Victim Write Him A Check - Caught After Trying To Cash Check Fla. -- Davie police said a rape suspect assaulted his victim, then made her write a check made out to him. Anthony Roberts followed a woman home from work Tuesday night. "As she's unlocking the door, he pulls out a gun, puts it to the back of her head and forces her into his apartment. Once inside the apartment, he asks her if she has any cash, credit cards or an ATM card," the woman had no cash, so Roberts said he would take a check made out in his name, police said. "He demands that she write a check. She writes him a check for $1,400 in his own name. He then binds her with duct tape, brings her into a bedroom, and at some point he decides he's going to sexually batter this woman." Roberts fled the apartment complex and the woman called 911. - (Rasp) Roberts, who is from the Bahamas, remained in jail Thursday.
