Sports: Ex-Cowboys QB faces drug charge Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter was arrested early Friday on a charge of possession of marijuana. Police arrived to a home they found Mr. Carter inside a house causing a disturbance, said Officer David Tull, police spokesman. Mr. Carter, who was booked into the jail under his full name Lavonya Quintelle Carter, was found with less than two ounces of marijuana. He was released from the Irving Jail after posting $500 bail, jail officials said. His bail was paid by Fort Worth Star-Telegram sports columnist Randy Galloway who said "I've had a lot of fun with Quincy over the years, his problems and everything else," Mr. Galloway said. "But it's Christmas and Quincy Carter is in jail, and I hate to see that happen. ... For him to be in the position today where he can't post a $500 bond, there's unfortunate problems in his life." - (Newsroom) - (Sports) |
Sports: Two Quinnipiac University basketballers have been arrested on charges they attacked a woman. On October 19th a female student says two freshman basketball players, 18-year-olds Trevon Charles and James Feldeine, grabbed her by the arms, pushed her into one of the dorm's bathrooms and refused to let her leave. Police say, the young woman ran into the shower and turned on the water but Charles urinated on her leg. The student reported the incident to the resident assistant but then began getting harassing e-mails, and on Friday afternoon the two players were arrested by police in the athletic director's office. A girl now caught in the middle of a growing scandal. Because of the new state statute concerning bodily fluids, inspired by a UConn case where two students masturbated onto a sleeping female student, Charles is now charged with sexual assault, which carries a much steeper penalty and more damaging future repercussions. - (Newsroom) - (Sports) |

And he has now been charged with a new crime -- bail jumping. Lorenzo L. Jones, 20, was arrested at his girlfriend's Fort Worth apartment by fugitive officers with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department, who had to force their way inside. The woman told police that one of the suspects had given her a sports drink before the sexual assault and that she believed that she had been drugged. On Friday, a Tarrant County grand jury indicted Jones on the charge of bail jumping -- a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Taylor and Behling, both 19, remain free on bail. - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Sports) Ref: Suspects' statements detail attack on woman FORT WORTH -- Three TCU students accused of raping a fourth student in one of the men's dormitory rooms Oct. 13 laughed during the incident and later concocted a plan to minimize what they had done, one of the men told police. The victim, 18, at first thought she had been raped by only one of the men, Virgil Allen Taylor, because she was unconscious during much of the attack, according to arrest warrant affidavits. All three of the suspects are former athletes at TCU. The alleged role of the two other accused students, Shannon Behling and Lorenzo Jones, did not surface until police interviewed Taylor, who implicated Behling. An interview with Behling revealed that Jones was also involved, the affidavit stated. |

Sports: Felony charges dropped in plea deal by Utah footballer in gang-rape case The Utah County Attorney's Office has decided to drop felony charges against a Brigham Young University football player who took a plea deal in a 2004 rape case. The decision to drop charges against Karland Bennett, 21, came after the teenage girl who accused the football players of rape told government prosecutors she didn't want to take the stand again in another trial. Bennett was one of four men indicted by a grand jury for the alleged sexual assault at a Provo apartment in August 2004. Bennett opted to negotiate with prosecutors, pleading guilty to reduced charges instead of going to trial on aggravated sex-abuse charges. In exchange, he testified during the trial against peers and former athletes B.J. Mathis and Ibrahim Rashada. But when the jury found Mathis and Rashada not guilty, Bennett's attorney, Greg Skordas, filed a motion to withdraw Bennett's previous guilty plea. At that time, Skordas said Bennett, when he agreed to a plea deal, was promised a sentence no harsher than what Rashada and Mathis would face. - (more sports) |
