Two Negroes finally on trial for kidnap execution massacre of 5 White KFC workers  Authorities say DNA evidence, gathered 2 years ago, has linked 2 Tyler men to the crime scene of the 1983 KFC murders in Kilgore. 44 year old Darnell Hartsfield and 47 year old Romeo Pinkerton were indicted today on 5 capital murder charges each. Currently, both men are already in jail on other charges. Just last month, Hartsfield was sentenced to life in prison on Aggravated perjury charges. The indictments were announced on the Henderson courthouse steps by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, with the victims families in attendance. Pinkerton and Darnell Hartsfield, 46, cousins from Tyler, were indicted in November 2005 on capital murder charges as suspects in the 1983 deaths of five employees at the Kilgore restaurant. The bodies of David Maxwell, 20, Mary Tyler, 37, Opie Ann Hughes, 39, Joey Johnson, 20, and Monte Landers, 19, were found on a rural oil lease in Rusk County. Nigerian migrant student accused of terrorist threats EDWARDSVILLE — An attorney representing an SIUE student who authorities say wrote a note threatening a "murderous rampage," kept a gun in his campus apartment and had sought four more on the Internet said Wednesday that her client would plead not guilty to the charges against him. A day earlier, Olutosin Oduwole was charged with a felony count of attempting to make a terrorist threat and with a misdemeanor count of illegally keeping a gun on public property. Oduwole, 22, is a freshman at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he lived in an apartment-style dorm in Cougar Village until Friday. According to court documents, that's the day police found a hand-written note demanding payment to a PayPal account. The note said "if this account doesn't reach $50,000 in the next 7 days then a murderous rampage similar to the VT shooting will occur at another highly populated university. THIS IS NOT A JOKE!" It appeared to refer to the shootings in April at Virginia Tech. A student there killed 32 people and injured 25 before killing himself. Black Serial Killer Watts Convicted in 1970s Student Slaying  KALAMAZOO, Michigan: Jurors convicted a confessed serial killer of first-degree murder in the 1974 slaying of a 19-year-old Western Michigan University student. Coral Eugene Watts, who claims to have stabbed more than a dozen women to death but denied killing WMU student Glorida Steele, faces a mandatory life prison sentence after Friday's verdict. Steele was stabbed more than 30 times in the apartment she shared with her 3-year-old daughter in 1974. Watts, of Inkster, about 13 miles (21 kilometers) west-southwest of Detroit, already is serving a life sentence for the 1979 murder of Helen Dutcher in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. Black arrested in shooting death of migrant cabbie SEATTLE (AP) - A trail of pennies led to the home of a teenager charged with killing a taxi driver and setting his cab afire, King County sheriff's deputies said. Earnest Lenell Collins Jr., 18, charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of Jagit Singh, a driver for Farwest Taxi, and his 16-year-old brother, sought on an unrelated fourth-degree assault warrant, were arrested in Chicago and were being held pending extradition, sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said. Robbery appeared to be the reason for the killing. Prosecutor Appeals After Judge Drops Rape Charges Against Liberian Over Lack of Interpreter  ROCKVILLE, Md. — The prosecutor in the case of a Liberian native charged with repeatedly raping and molesting a 7-year-old girl said Monday that he is filing an appeal of a controversial judge's ruling that dismissed all charges because an interpreter who spoke the suspect's rare West African dialect could not be found. Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy called the ruling last Tuesday by Judge Katherine Savage "improper," adding that his office has "requested that an appeal be taken to reverse the court's order." Savage ruled on July 17 that Mahamu Kanneh, a Liberian who received asylum in the U.S. and attended high school and community college here, was denied a speedy trial after three years awaiting a court-appointed interpreter who could speak the tribal language of Vai.
