Black executed for murder of 77-year-old security guard On Dec. 3, 1997, James "J.B." Brooks went to his job with Anderson Armored Car Service Inc. as he had for the past 20 years. He was planning on retiring later in the month. But on that day, Calvin Shuler attempted to rob Brooks' armored car in Harleyville. Shuler had been an employee of Anderson Armored Car Service and had briefly worked with his victims -- Brooks, driver James Amick and Sherman Crozier. Officials say Shuler quietly and patiently waited under a house for the armored car to make its routine stop at the bank. When it did, he made his way from under the house, pointed a gun at the driver and shouted for the driver to get out of the truck. Brooks apparently did his best to defend himself and the cargo with only a five-shot revolver versus the SKS assault rifle Shuler was toting. Investigators on the scene stated Brooks fired every shot in his gun prior to his death. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black aide to black ex-mayor of New Orleans gets 9 years for corruption In a sharp rebuke to one of former Mayor Marc Morial's top aides, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier denounced Kerry DeCay for crimes that he said were rooted in "pure and simple greed," then rejected his pleas for leniency and sentenced him to nine years in federal prison. DeCay, the city's director of property management during Morial's eight-year tenure, on Friday became the first of four major players to be sentenced for participating in a scheme to skim more than $1 million from a massive energy-savings contract awarded at the end of Morial's second term. Along with the prison sentence, DeCay was ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution. Through a spokeswoman, Morial, now head of the National Urban League, declined comment. - (Newsroom) |

Black Pittsburgh moms charged after 5 children die in fire The mothers of five children killed in a house fire surrendered to police Thursday to face involuntary manslaughter charges for allegedly leaving the youngsters alone while they went to a bar. Wearing a T-shirt that read "Mommy Loves You" and "God Loves You More," Shakita Mangham, 25, arrived at municipal court early Thursday. Furaha Love, 25, turned herself in at police headquarters a short time later. Mangham initially told police she left the children with a baby sitter, but later admitted she lied, according to a criminal complaint. Love also said later that she knew there was no baby sitter, and that the children had been left in the care of two 8-year-olds. Dark sex fiend charged with rape of 86-year-old * Police Arrest Depraved Negro Rapist A man who police believe broke into an 86-year-old woman's house and raped her is in Mecklenburg jail tonight, charged with sexual assault and first-degree burglary. Sherrod Byers, 37, of 1217 Enderly Road, was arrested by the police department's violent criminal apprehension team. Police haven't said how they connected Byers with the crime in west Charlotte, but a police report says the department's crime scene search unit and crime lab played a big part in solving the case. Neighbors said that the woman was terrified when a man showed up naked in her bed this morning and raped her. Byers has a long criminal history in North Carolina. He's been found guilty of more than a dozen crimes since 1993 -- but has never been convicted as a sex offender and isn't on the state's registry. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Feral Black sex beast raped 81-year-old Shreveport woman and another 82-year-old woman  At times fighting to hold her composure and wiping tears from her eyes, an 81-year-old Shreveport woman recounted the day she says she was beaten, raped and robbed.
The woman, whose identity is protected by state law, told a Caddo District Judge she was hanging a plant outside her home when her attacker exited a neighbor’s garage and approached her.
He first asked to use the bathroom, then asked to use the phone, the sexual assault victim said.
“Just as I entered the door he knocked me down. When I screamed, he beat me. I knew if I had said another word, I wouldn’t be here today... He beat me with his fist. He was so powerful and so angry.”
The woman was one of two witnesses testifying in the aggravated rape case of 16-year-old Calvin “C.J.” Breakfield. He is charged with the May 5 rape as well as the June 19, 2005, rape of another Shreveport woman who then was 82. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

WASHINGTON - A federal judge declined Thursday to revoke former Mayor Marion Barry's probation, which would have sent him to prison for failing to file his 2005 tax returns on time. Barry, 71 and now on the District of Columbia Council, pleaded guilty in 2005 to misdemeanor charges for failing to file tax returns from 1999 to 2004. As part of his plea bargain, he agreed to file future federal and local tax returns annually. But prosecutors accused Barry of missing deadlines for filing federal and D.C. tax returns for 2005. They argued in court filings that Barry "has not acted like a person who has been given the opportunity of probation and should not be treated like one."

CANTON, Ohio - For the third time since a pregnant woman disappeared, leaving her 2-year-old home alone, investigators on Wednesday were at the home of a Canton police patrolman who is the father of the illegitimate mixed-race boy and the illegitimate unborn daughter. Sheriff’s deputies blocked off about a 100-yard stretch of street in front of Bobby Cutts Jr.’s home, and FBI agents were in the front yard as neighbors stood in the street. At least 10 FBI agents and deputies carried boxes from a white truck into the home, where shades were drawn. They carried out a dark case.
