Kemar JohnstonAshley ToyePaul NunesMelissa RiveraFORT MYERS, Fla. -- A pregnant 18-year-old woman who helped kill a brother and sister last year is facing life in prison after being found guilty of first-degree murder. Despite tearful testimony that she feared for her own life if she didn't help kill the others, Ashley Toye was convicted of two counts of murder Thursday in the October slayings of Jeffrey Sosa, 14, and Alexis Sosa, 18. At issue in the trial was whether Toye believed she would have been harmed by the father of her child, Kemar Johnston, if she didn't participate. She carved an asterisk into one victim's back, acquired the shoelaces used to tie both victims and cleaned up their blood afterward, according to testimony. Johnston and seven others are charged with first-degree murder and have cases pending. Another, Melissa Rivera, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, in exchange for her testifying against the others. - (Newsroom) - (crime)
