Darkest Africa: South Africa - Zululand- Man eats dead wife, dies choking Two KwaZulu-Natal girls have been left traumatised after seeing their father eat the flesh off their dead mother's face on Friday morning, said police. Captain Tienkie van Vuuren said police were called to Thembalethu Village near Mkuze in the Tugela Ferry area about 03:00 on Friday after a 13-year-old girl ran to her neighbours for help. She said when they arrived at the house they had to force their way in the house to rescue the other girl, aged seven, who had been stabbed in the head by the father. "Inside, police found a naked Jabulani Siphethu sitting on top of his common-law wife's body, eating the flesh from her face," said Van Vuuren. "Only the forehead was still intact. The bone was visible where the rest of the face used to be". - (African Crusader) - (Africa) |
Former Officer Arrested for Sexual Misconduct COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State agents have arrested a former Holly Hill police officer they say dropped traffic charges against women after asking to videotape them stripping. The State Law Enforcement Division says 36-year-old Mark Wright has been charged with four counts of misconduct in office for the incidents that happened in the Orangeburg County town between 1998 and 2004. State agents say Wright also offered to drop a speeding charge if a woman pulled up her shirt and let him photograph her and took personal pictures of another woman during a search of her home. - (Tyrone N. Questions and answers as they should have been - Trial of Edgar Ray Killen in absentia Edgar Ray Killen had once told reporters that he did not believe in murder, but he did believe in self-defense. His lawyers, however, did not believe in a political defense and seemed incapable of mounting the argument that vigilante-justice against Communist-invaders and lawless-insurrectionists was an act of self-defense. When Rita Schwerner Bender was called as a witness, testifying outside the presence of Killen, who was hospitalized, at the time, the cross-examination by James McIntyre was weak, ineffective and incomplete. As soon as Killen was hauled out on a stretcher, Richard Barrett called upon Attorney-general Jim Hood to call off the proceedings, stating that "the trial is a sham, the prosecution is a travesty and the persecution is intolerable." Judge Marcus Gordon held that the guarantees of the Sixth Amendment for a speedy trial and to be confronted by witnesses does not apply. Here is the cross-examination, as it should have been, and answers, as they likely would have been: |

Traffic light shooting victim asks: Why? Alexander Demitras planned to wrap up last weekend by going out for a bite to eat with his girlfriend. Instead he ended it in a hospital with five bullet wounds, a metal rod in his shattered arm and a few less organs than he started with. On Sunday night, Demitras, 19, was shot in his car outside the Liberty Tunnels in an attack his parents said was utterly unprovoked. A denoscription of the shooter's vehicle was broadcast over the police radio. Officers spotted the car, tailed it and arrested Damon Woodson in front of a Downtown restaurant. A police affidavit said Woodson confessed to the crime. - (reader link) - (crime) |
