- Suspect in Senior Home Attack Is Psychotic, Court Told A housekeeping employee accused of slashing six people in January at the Alexandria retirement home where he worked suffers from paranoid delusions and is not competent to stand trial, a judge ruled yesterday. Mustafa M. Mohamed is psychotic and unable to understand fully the felony charges against him or to assist in his defense, a doctor concluded in a court-ordered report to the Alexandria General District Court judge. Mohamed allegedly stormed through the halls of the Goodwin House retirement home Jan. 9,
stabbing a fellow employee, a visitor and four elderly residents, one of whom

Black allegedly shot 15-year-old Hispanic girl to death after she refused his demand for a kiss  Alfred R. Bishop, 21, was found after an anonymous tipster called Atlantic County's major crimes unit, according to Atlantic City police. After some casual conversation, Bishop tried to get Elisa Hernandez, a high school sophomore. to kiss him, but she laughed at him. Bishop then pulled out a pistol, put it to her head and again demanded a kiss, Blitz said. According to witnesses, she said no and pushed the gun away twice before he shot her through the left eye and fled, Blitz said. Hernandez, who knew Bishop but had no prior relationship with him, died at the scene. - (The Bobster) |
Portsmouth Man Charged With Having Sex With 13-year-old girl Newport News police have charged a 42-year old Portsmouth man with having sex with a 13-year old girl. Kenneth Albert Harris of Cherokee Road was arrested in the Denbigh section of Newport News around 6:30am Thursday. Authorities say that in November of 2003 the Newport News victim met the suspect at a local retail store. According to police, they two began "dating." During that relationship, officials contend the two had sexual contact on several occasions in several different locations. At the beginning of the relationship the victim was thirteen-years-old.

Hampton Police Arrest Dirty Old Man for fonding an 8-year-old girl  Hampton police have charged a 52-year old man they say fondled an 8-year old girl in early March.
Raymond Hedgepath of Witness Lane was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated sexual battery. Authorities say Hedgepath fondled the daughter of an acquaintance while at their residence on March 4th. Police were called to the residence on March 5th after the victim told her mother about the alleged incident. Hedgepath is currently being held in the Hampton City Jail.

Migrant Mississippi Professor from Africa charged with felonly child abuse  Affidavits filed in Hinds County Circuit Court detail what Professor Festus Oguhebe is charged with doing to his six children. The professor, who is from Nigeria, is accused of tying up one of his children, placing him in a bathtub, covering him with ants, putting pepper in his eyes and leaving him there overnight.

Police Identify Suspect in Deadly Shooting Outside Newport News Nightclubb as Samuel Isaiah Manning  Newport News police are searching for a suspect they say walked up to an SUV early Saturday morning and sprayed it with bullets. One man was killed and another was hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The shooting happened around 2:00am at the entrance of the Majic City Nightclub parking lot. Wednesday, police obtained warrants for Samuel Isaiah Manning, 21, of Tall Pines Drive in Hampton. Manning is 5'10" tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, a light moustache and tattoos on his neck and arms.

Band teacher Laura Lynn Findlay appears in court for allegedly having sex and performing sex acts with five 14 year olds  Prosecutors say a Buena Vista teacher abused her authority to convince some students to have sex with her.
The Ricker Middle School band instructor was formally charged Tuesday afternoon with 20 criminal counts. Laura Lynn Findlay, 30, appeared in court to face the charges. Her attorney stood moot; the charges against Findlay were not read. Findlay faces 20 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having sex and performing sex acts with five 14 year olds at Ricker Middle School. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |

Jury's Bible Use Nixes Sentence in brutal rape and murder  Ruling that juries cannot turn to the Bible for advice during deliberations, a divided Colorado Supreme Court threw out the death penalty for a convicted murderer because jurors discussed verses from noscripture. Five of the jurors who convicted Robert Harlan of a brutal rape and murder consulted the Bible before voting for the death penalty. Justices ordered Harlan to serve life without parole for kidnapping Rhonda Maloney and raping her at gunpoint for hours before fatally shooting her. Maloney, a 25-year-old cocktail waitress, was on her way home from work at a casino. Harlan later admitted killing her, but said he was addled by cocaine, alcohol and rage. Harlan was sentenced to death in 1995, but defense lawyers learned that five jurors had looked up such Bible verses as "eye for eye, tooth for tooth," while deliberating behind closed doors.
