SAN DIEGO -- An ex-convict who used a stolen flatbed truck to run down and kill a pursuing San Diego police motorcycle officer was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Kevin Gerard Williams, 39, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon and a special allegation that he killed Officer Terry W. Bennett in the line of duty. The defendant had six prior felony convictions on his record and has been to prison three times. Williams mental capacity is estimated to be that of a 12-year-old -- exacerbated by drug use. Bennett started chasing Williams who was driving a stolen truck. Williams made a hard U-turn and used the stolen truck as a battering ram to crush the officer against a fence. - (another angry white)

  ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- The suspect in four Atlanta killings told the woman he held hostage for about seven hours that he thought she was an "angel sent from God," she said Sunday night. The woman, Ashley Smith, told reporters that she spoke of religion and family -- including her 5-year-old daughter -- in a bid to win the sympathy of Brian Nichols, the 33-year-old suspect. After 2 a.m. Saturday, Nichols forced his way into Smith's apartment in suburban Gwinnett County, tied her up and threatened her life, Smith said.

• 103 Alleged Honduran Gang Members Arrested
  More than 100 alleged members of the violent Honduran street gang MS-13 have been arrested in a nationwide sweep, authorities said Monday. Using information from local and state law enforcement agencies, federal agents charged 103 members of the Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, gang with a range of criminal and immigration charges. The arrests came in the New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Newark, Miami and Dallas metropolitan areas over the last several weeks. Officials said MS-13 is one of the largest and most violent street gangs in the United States, and the majority of its members are in the country illegally. The gang has carried out beheadings and grenade attacks in Central America and is known to hack their enemies with machetes in cities along the East Coast in the United States. - (Brewski)

  Photographer Russell E. "Rusty" Nelson was recently arrested two days after journalist Hunter Thompson reportedly committed suicide. Nelson was allegedly employed by a former Republican Party activist to take pictures of current or retired U.S. House-Senate members and other prominent government officials engaging in sexual criminality by receiving or committing sodomy and other sex acts on children during the Reagan-Bush 41 administrations.

  Three teen-age girls were arrested this weekend in connection with an incident in which another girl was held down and raped in an apartment.Arrested Saturday were Serena Hodges-Jolley, 17, Emily Sanford, 16, and Alicia Helms, 16, all of Great Falls. Police said the three girls then went into the bedroom, and two of the girls held the victim's hands and body. The girls raped the victim with a plastic bottle.
