Suspect Caught in Atlanta Shootings * Massive Manhunt Comes to an End The suspect in the Atlanta shooting deaths of a judge, a federal agent and two other people was captured on Saturday after triggering a massive manhunt that ended in a neighboring Georgia county. Brian Nichols, 33, surrendered at an apartment complex surrounded by a SWAT team in Gwinnett County north of Atlanta about 26 hours after he fled the downtown courthouse where he had opened fire on Friday. Nichols gave himself up without a struggle after a woman tipped police that he had entered her apartment, authorities said. The woman, who police said was not acquainted with Nichols, escaped unharmed.

Arlington pastor indicted in sexual assaults of three congregants ARLINGTON, Texas The pastor of an Arlington nondenominational church is facing charges of sexually assaulting three women from his congregation.Forty-three-year-old Terry L. Hornbuckle was arrested yesterday on four counts of sexual assault. Three women say Hornbuckle tried to entice them into sex by using his influence as minister of the Agape Christian Fellowship. Convicted sex offender charged in rape of 13-year-old girl A registered sex offender was arrested and charged with three counts of raping a 13-year-old girl, less than a year since his arrest for a similar crime, Southampton Town police said Friday. Kevin D. Cooks, 21, of 21 Wooded Way in Calverton, was taken into custody after the girl's mother told the police Wednesday that he was sexually involved with her daughter, who is incapable of legally consenting to sex because she is a minor. On March 12, 2004, Cooks was arrested on rape and sodomy charges stemming from an ongoing sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. - (Brewski) |
Convicted murdered Terrell Yarbrough to be retried in '99 killings A man convicted and sentenced to die four years ago in Ohio for the shooting deaths of two college students will be retried in Washington County later this year. The murder conviction of Terrell Yarbrough was overturned by the Ohio Supreme Court, which ruled Yarbrough was tried in the wrong state for the 1999 shooting deaths of Aaron Land, 20, of Philadelphia, and Brian Muha, 18, of Westerville, Ohio. Yarbrough and a co-defendant, Nathan Herring, were accused of robbing and kidnaping Land and Muha from their apartment at Franciscan University in Steubenville on May 31, 1999. Land and Muha, who were attending summer classes at the school, were forced into Muha's Chevrolet Blazer. They were driven into Pennsylvania, where they were (sexually humiliated then) shot to death. - (reader link)

Trial date set for Tampa murder suspect A Hillsborough County judge set a trial date Thursday for one of the suspects in the beating death of a Tampa teen. Laisha Landrum's trial is scheduled June 20. She is accused of helping her boyfriend, Rocky Almestica, beat his former girlfriend, 16-year-old Emily Clemons, then leaving her to die in a north Tampa apartment Dumpster on June 9 of last year. Almestica was sentenced Jan. 3 to life in prison. Landrum, 17, is facing first-degree murder and tampering charges. Emily was 14 when she started "dating" Almestica and 16 when she was killed. - Is there a lesson or moral somewhere here? Sports: Footballer McCall arrested on rape charge Kevin McCall, a footballer for Washington State, has been suspended by the team after allegations he raped a woman. A call from Regents Hall, a dormitory on campus, was made to WSU Police at 10:30 p.m. Sunday. After investigating the incident, police arrested McCall.
