Religion: Minister Arrested On Alleged Sex Assault Charges Denver police have arrested a church leader for allegedly sexually assaulting a child. Rev. Michael Peters, 35, was arrested earlier this week and faces a charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Peters has been a minister and a counselor in the Denver and Boulder area for a number of years, police said. Peters worked with kids and also with his father, Dr. James Peters, a pastor at New Hope Baptist Church. The charge stems from an incident on May 1, 2003, police said. Education: Vice Principal Charged With Having Sex With Student FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A high school vice principal has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a student. Elazzoa McArthur, 32, is charged with two counts each of sexual activity between a school employee and a student and taking indecent liberties with a student by a school employee. McArthur, who is vice principal of Pine Forest High School, first became involved with a now 17-year-old student when he coached basketball at Cape Fear High School and met her at a competition, authorities said. Education: Former Smyrna High teacher charged in sex with teens NASHVILLE (AP) -- A former Smyrna High School teacher who was fired from his job after being accused of sending inappropriate messages to a student was arrested. Kenneth T. Anderson, Jr. was charged with statutory rape of the student and another 15 year-old girl. He has been under investigation for two weeks, since a mother told police and school officials that he sent suggestive text messages to her 16-year-old daughter's cell phone. He is now charged with four counts of statutory rape and four counts of sexual battery by an authority figure for his relationship with the student. Authorities Arrest Man Accused of Raping a Child ZEBULON, N.C. -- A convicted sex offender who got out of prison faces more jail time. Bonnie Morris served time in 1997 for indecent liberties with a child. He was recently arrested by Wake County authorities and U.S. Marshals. This time. Gay Sex Chat led to murder, jurors told Jurors heard about the last moments that Sean Ethan Owen spent with his family before the 2004 morning he was found dead in the Eno River. Owen was excited because he had plans later to meet up with a guy he had been chatting with online. Shelton DeAngelo Epps.is one of three men indicted in the 2004 kidnapping, robbery and killing of Owen. Co-defendant Matthew Taylor, 18, was convicted in July and is serving a life sentence. The third defendant, Derrick A. Maiden, 19, testified against Taylor in exchange for a lesser murder charge. The three were accused of luring Owen to Durham on the prospect of sex. Mother and daughter tourists from Austria beaten and robbed by two blacks Authorities in Orange County, Fla., released a sketch of one of two men who beat and robbed an mother and daughter vacationing in the area from Austria. Investigators said the women were walking at a Best Western on the tourist-filled International Drive Thursday at about 1:30 a.m. when they were attacked by two men. The robbers took the women's passports and all of their money. A witness said he saw the men run up to the mother and daughter and beat them as they entered an elevator at the hotel. Alleged Burglar Gets Stuck in Oven Vent ORLANDO, Fla. -- An alleged burglar was rescued after he got stuck overnight in the oven vent of the convenience store he was trying to rob, the fire department said. Investigators said Lonnie Shields, 37, climbed into a small vent on the roof of the New City Mart at about 2 a.m. and wasn't found until store employees arrived at about 8 a.m. Shields, who faces charges of burglary of a structure, was treated at a nearby hospital and booked into Orange County Jail on $1,000 bond. Shields, an alleged burglar, was rescued Thursday after he got stuck overnight in the oven vent of the convenience store he was trying to rob. - (crime) - (Newsroom) |
Sports: High School teacher and coach and former College footballer Faces Sex Charges MARION, S.C. (AP) - A Marion High School teacher and coach and former Wofford College footballer has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Shawn Graves turned himself in. He was ordered to have no contact with the 15-year-old girl, who is a student at the school. Graves is a Marion High School graduate and played quarterback at Wofford where he held six NCAA Division II records. Graves has been suspended with pay pending further investigation. 16-Year-Old White Girl Faces Alleged Rapist, Murder Suspect In Court BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A girl was in court to face the man who is charged with raping her -- a man who is also accused in the rape of another woman and the murder of a Boca Raton nanny. The girl, who is now 16, was 14 years old at the time of the alleged rape. She said she had met Jerry Wiggins in 2003, when they lived in the same apartment complex in Coral Springs. She said Wiggins took her to an apartment where he overpowered her and raped her seven times throughout the night. The teen, who cried throughout her testimony, said that when Wiggins was preparing to leave for work the next day, she was able to escape. She said she immediately went home, told her mother what happened, and called police. Wiggins was arrested last January in the rape of a Charlotte, N.C., woman. The woman picked Wiggins, whom she knew as "Jay," out of a lineup. Black arrested in murder of White teenager Jennifer Ross Police have made an arrest in the murder of 19-year-old Jennifer Ross. They are not releasing a lot of information at the moment in this high-profile case, but this afternoon they arrested Michael Thorpe, 25, who they say shot Ross. Investigators say he is a key suspect and more arrests may follow. Ross was shot in Orleans Square in Savannah on Christmas Eve. She was walking with some friends after going to a cotillion downtown when a group of men tried to mug them, then shot Ross in the stomach. She died on New Year's Day. Convicted Child Rapist Wanted In Baltimore County Baltimore County police seek the public's help to find an unaccounted-for sex offender convicted of rape. Authorities identified the man as Maurice Nathaniel Jackson, 41, and said he remains at large, wanted on a warrant for noncompliance with the state's Sex Offender Registry. According to police, Jackson was convicted of a 1984 rape in the D.C. In 1998, Jackson was paroled from jail and was registered as a child sexual offender. Sex offenders are required by state law to update their address yearly. Police described Jackson as a black male who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Court Grants New Trial for Death Row Inmate The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that a death row inmate should get a new trial because his original attorney failed to provide an adequate defense. The South Carolina court says that was not the case with Robert Lee Nance's attorney. The court says in some instances the attorney actually bolstered the case against his own client. Nance was convicted in the 1992 slaying of 73-year-old Violet Fraley of Florence. Her husband was seriously injured in the attack. Fugitive Arrested, Returned to Lexington County A man who's been on the run for ten years in connection with Lexington County kidnapping and assault has been arrested and returned to Lexington. Michael Golston, 42, of Detroit, was being held on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery with intent to kill and possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Golston went to the home of his girlfriend, Regina Blasco, and brutally attacked the woman with his fist, feet and a 9-mm handgun. During the attack, Metts says Golston kidnapped Blasco at gun point and held her against her will. Trial Begins For College Cop Accused Of Sexual Assault BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A trial is under way in the case of a university police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman. Investigators said an 18-year-old woman and her boyfriend were sitting in a parked car off campus when they were approached by 35-year-old Frederick Eugene Currie. Currie, an on-duty Florida International University police officer, conducted a check of the vehicle. Investigators said Currie ordered the couple, who were partially undressed and intimately involved, to get out of the car. The couple said Currie said he had to "frisk them" as part of police procedure. The woman said that out of the sight of her boyfriend, the pat-down turned into a sexual assault. The couple called the police after the incident. Miami-Dade Police Department's Sexual Crimes Bureau investigated the alleged assault. Currie was arrested on July 20. Teacher accused of improper relationship with student Cedar Park police have charged a Vista Ridge High School teacher with having an improper relationship with students. According to a press release from the police department, four female students reported that Larry B. Wallace, 52, made inappropriate comments to them verbally and by e-mail. One of the four students alleged that Wallace had also touched her breast and touched her between her legs while in his classroom during a "conference period." The girls told authorities the comments were made several times since the beginning of the school year. Black Teen Suspect Surrenders In Ambush-Style Slaying Of White Grandmother A 17-year-old in Brevard County, Fla., was arrested Friday on suspicion he ambushed a 46-year-old grandmother and shot her dead in a friend's driveway. Investigators said Christy Sanford was shot at about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday in Cocoa, Fla. Police arrived within minutes of the shooting and found Sanford dead, still sitting in her car with the driver's door open and the headlights on. After an investigation, police identified Clarence Tarez Thomas as the alleged shoote.
