Officials Warn Of Convicted Rapist, Murderer Living In Jacksonville * Serial rapist who killed Lake Park victim set free Fla. -- A rapist and murder just released from 20 years in prison has settled in Jacksonville, and authorities in South Florida called a news conference to warn people that they believe he is still dangerous. Raymond Berry, 55, was convicted of the rape and murder of an antique-shop owner in West Palm Beach in 1984. He also served time for an armed robbery in Duval County in 1975 and an aggravated battery in Volusia County in 1979. His first criminal conviction on file was for a rape in Daytona Beach in 1968, when he was only 17. - (-88-) - (crime) |
Man Convicted In 1994 Rape of a 71-year-old woman  CINCINNATI -- A Walnut Hills man has been convicted of raping a woman at her Kenwood home more than 10 years ago, officials said. DNA evidence connected Keith Hawkins to the rape of a then 71-year-old woman on July 17, 1994. Hawkins allegedly climbed through a second-story window, tied the victim with a phone cord, threatened her with a knife and raped her. He also took money and other property. Darriek Smith charged with first degree burglary and first degree rape A Slocomb man sits behind bars charged with first degree burglary and first degree rape.
Dothan Police arrested Darriek Smith in connection with the incident which occurred on New Year’s Eve. Investigators say Smith allegedly broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend and forced her to have sex with him.
Witnesses who visited the victim's home alerted police, and when officers got there, Smith took off on foot. Police chased him down. - (Negrodamus) - (crime) |

Va. Man Charged With Killing Mormon Missionary  A man was charged with killing a Mormon missionary and wounding another in a shooting that police believe occurred because the victims had witnessed a crime while they were discussing their religion door-to-door. James Rickey Boughton Jr., 19, was arrested at his home. Elder Morgan W. Young, 21, from Bountiful, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Doctors treated him, but Young's injuries were too severe. He died early this morning.

Rape, Robbery Suspect Tyrone Bonded Out Of Fla. Jail On Drug Charges Cincinnati - The prime suspect in a violent attack on a county worker has a history with police. Tyrone "Yogi" Franklin, 23, is accused of forcing a woman back into her car downtown Monday morning, making her withdraw cash from an ATM, and then raping her in an abandoned shed. But his criminal record started about three summers ago, when he was involved in a fatal police chase. Just about five weeks ago, Franklin was in a Florida jail under a fake name on crack charges. Sarasota police confirmed that they used a Taser gun on him during a foot pursuit, and claim they found him in possession of 41 crack rocks. After bonding out, he drove to Cincinnati, where he's suspected in Monday' rape, robbery and carjacking. - (crime) |
DNA brings break in University of Florida co-ed rape case For eight years, police have had no leads and no suspects in the 1997 rape of a University of Florida student.
But that all changed two weeks ago after a positive DNA match led investigators to one man: Leo Price Jr. Police arrested the 52-year-old Gainesville man on charges of sexual battery, attempted murder and armed burglary in connection to the Nov. 20, 1997 incident in which a 19-year-old UF student was raped in her apartment.
The rapist entered an unlocked door at the victim's apartment at 7:30 a.m. while she was asleep, Nixon said. Armed with a knife, the rapist tried to smother the victim with her pillow and he then raped her. - (crime) |
| HIV positive Antonio Gonzalez, Jr sentenced to 48 years for rape of 5-year-old A Harding Township man who is HIV positive was sentenced to 48 years in prison today in for repeatedly raping a 5-year-old girl in his home. Judge Charles Doneghy imposed the maximum and consecutive sentences on Antonio Gonzalez, Jr., 48, who was convicted in November of four counts of rape and one count of felonious assault. The victim, now 6 years old, was assaulted on June 13 at the defendant’s home where the defendant and his wife were hosting a graduation party. Gonzalez, who had been drinking and smoking crack-cocaine, took the victim into a bedroom, barricaded the door, and sexually assaulted her. The defendant’s wife found her husband in the room with the victim. He fled through a window and was later attacked by some of the party-goers who had been alerted by the wife. - (crime) |
Black with bloody clothes found driving car stolen from murdered 83-year-old * Update: Slain woman was busy elder  South Carolina state troopers say bloody clothes worn by a driver during a traffic stop helped investigators solve the killing of a Sampson County woman before her body was discovered. Christopher Terry was driving erratically when they pulled him over. He was found to be driving a stolen car. Terry's shirt was covered in blood and the officer asked if he was hurt. The guy made a confession at that point," Terry told the trooper he had killed 83-year-old Alice West McNair in her home. He was driving her car and a gun was found under the seat. 4 Robbed, 1 White Man Killed During Crime Spree by Two Black Males * Man killed by black robber dies in Florida home   Workers cleaned the spot Wednesday morning where Shawn Mulkin, 44, was killed when he tried to chase after the men who had robbed his apartment. Shawn Mulkin was shot and killed by an armed robber in his home in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday night.
Shawn, 44, is the son of John Mulkin, who founded The Herrin Spokesman in 1957. Martha Mulkin, Shawn's stepmother for the past two decades, said she and her husband learned of the news on Wednesday. Robbery and shooting by three Black males sent a young White Savannah woman to a hospital where she died  3 men approached Jennifer Ross and three friends early Saturday morning. The four were walking through Orleans Square after attending a cotillion when the men demanded the groups money. The robbers pistol whipped one of Ross' friends and another tried to grab her purse. During the struggle, Ross was shot in the back. Her godmother, County Commissioner Helen Stone, is outraged about the recent crime. Police Search for Teen's Killer A 19 year old young woman has become Savannah's first homicide victim of 2006. Jennifer Ross was shot Christmas Eve morning during a robbery attempt. Murder Suspect Sought in SC - Green is considered armed and extremely dangerous Sheriff's deputies are looking for a Low Country man wanted for murder. Deputies say Charles Green, Jr. of Burton, South Carolina is wanted in connection with a murder early Saturday morning.
Investigators say around 12:30 a.m., Green was arguing with three men in the parking lot of the Oaks at Broad River Apartments in Beaufort. They say Green shot at all three, killing one person and injuring another. The surviving victims identified Green in a photo lineup as the shooter.
