Black on White Rape-slaying cover-up rocks university  YPSILANTI, Mich. – For two months after Laura Dickinson was found dead in her dorm room, Eastern Michigan University officials assured her parents and the public there was no sign of foul play. Campus police knew otherwise all along. It wasn’t until a fellow classmate was arrested in February that the truth came out: Dickinson had been raped and murdered. She had been found spread-eagle on the floor, naked from the waist down, a pillow covering her face and semen on her leg. | Ireland: Liberian Asylum seeker convicted of rape - gets only 4 years free room and board before deportation A Donegal based Asylum seeker was yesterday jailed for four years in Derry for Rape. 19 year-old Henry Ojaiko who lives in Donegal Town raped the woman during a student’s party in a house on Argyle Street, Derry on June 16th last year. The court heard Ojaiko was forced to fight as a child soldier in the Liberian war; he was forcibly recruited when he was ten after his parents had been killed. He fled to Ireland two years ago after he had been shot in the leg. O jaiko is now the subject of a deportation order and will be deported from Northern Ireland to the Republic after he completes his sentenced. In handing down the sentence Judge Corinne Philpot said she took Ojaiko's background into consideration stating it was bound to have had an effect on his general view of how people are treated. Black Former Winston-Salem Minister Charged With Rape of Boys A former Winston-Salem minister was arrested in Wake County on Friday on charges that he had sexual relationships with two boys. The Rev. Rodney Keith Boothe, 39, was affiliated with the Greater Church of Deliverance on North Cherry Street when he was involved in sexual relationships with the boys, court papers said. Boothe has been charged with numerous counts of statutory rape, indecent liberties and related charges. He was moved from Raleigh to Winston-Salem yesterday and was being held in the Forsyth County Jail with bond set at $10 million. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black teen charged with rape of 75-year-old woman A 75 year-old woman came home Thursday, June 21 to find an intruder in her house. Police say she was assaulted and robbed by an 18 year-old man. Christopher Garrison was arrested by police after, according to officers, they saw him fleeing from the home in the victim's car in the 4100 block of Garden Birch. Black executed for murder of 77-year-old security guard On Dec. 3, 1997, James "J.B." Brooks went to his job with Anderson Armored Car Service Inc. as he had for the past 20 years. He was planning on retiring later in the month. But on that day, Calvin Shuler attempted to rob Brooks' armored car in Harleyville. Shuler had been an employee of Anderson Armored Car Service and had briefly worked with his victims -- Brooks, driver James Amick and Sherman Crozier. Officials say Shuler quietly and patiently waited under a house for the armored car to make its routine stop at the bank. When it did, he made his way from under the house, pointed a gun at the driver and shouted for the driver to get out of the truck. Brooks apparently did his best to defend himself and the cargo with only a five-shot revolver versus the SKS assault rifle Shuler was toting. Investigators on the scene stated Brooks fired every shot in his gun prior to his death. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black aide to black ex-mayor of New Orleans gets 9 years for corruption In a sharp rebuke to one of former Mayor Marc Morial's top aides, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier denounced Kerry DeCay for crimes that he said were rooted in "pure and simple greed," then rejected his pleas for leniency and sentenced him to nine years in federal prison. DeCay, the city's director of property management during Morial's eight-year tenure, on Friday became the first of four major players to be sentenced for participating in a scheme to skim more than $1 million from a massive energy-savings contract awarded at the end of Morial's second term. Along with the prison sentence, DeCay was ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution. Through a spokeswoman, Morial, now head of the National Urban League, declined comment. - (Newsroom) |

Black Pittsburgh moms charged after 5 children die in fire The mothers of five children killed in a house fire surrendered to police Thursday to face involuntary manslaughter charges for allegedly leaving the youngsters alone while they went to a bar. Wearing a T-shirt that read "Mommy Loves You" and "God Loves You More," Shakita Mangham, 25, arrived at municipal court early Thursday. Furaha Love, 25, turned herself in at police headquarters a short time later. Mangham initially told police she left the children with a baby sitter, but later admitted she lied, according to a criminal complaint. Love also said later that she knew there was no baby sitter, and that the children had been left in the care of two 8-year-olds. Authorities said the early morning fire June 12 was started by children playing with matches. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
