Police Arrest Black Ex-Con in Columbia U. Rape and Torture * Photo of Columbia rape suspect released A homeless ex-convict was arrested in the rape and torture of a Columbia University graduate student, who was held hostage for 19 hours in her apartment, cut with a knife and left tied up with the bed set ablaze. Robert Williams, 30, faces attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, arson and other charges stemming from last week's assault, police said Friday. Investigators said evidence found at the scene of the attack and an anonymous tip pointed to Williams. The suspect, also known as William Roberts, has previous convictions for attempted murder and assault. It was unclear whether he had a lawyer who could comment. The victim was still hospitalized with cuts to her eyelids and other injuries. The attack began April 13 after the assailant slipped inside the victim's upper Manhattan apartment building and forced his way into her home. Over the next several hours, the assailant raped her on her futon bed, tied her up with computer cables, force fed her drugs and alcohol and used a knife to slit her eyelids, police said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Father charged with rape and murder of female infant  The father of an Amarillo infant who died last week is now being charged with capital murder. On Wednesday, 21-year-old Devin Jones was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of injury to a child. Six-month-old Quionna Jones was taken to the hospital Tuesday night not breathing. She was examined and found to be suffering from physical and sexual abuse. The baby was placed on life support and died the next morning. Preliminary autopsy results indicate she was the victim of head and internal injuries. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Pastor Accused of Sex Crime Involving Teen Church Member * Sex of alleged victim not reported  The Pastor at a Hamilton church is accused of sex crimes against a teenage member of his church. Bruce Curtis who is the Pastor at Community Friendship Church in Hamilton was arraigned in Fairfield Municipal Court on charges of sexual imposition and attempted sexual battery. Detectives say the crimes happened at a home in Fairfield. They say he turned himself in and has been very cooperative with their investigation. | Lowcountry Mom Charged With Death of Her Twin Boys S.C. mother who smothered twins gets 10 years in prison  MONCKS CORNER, S.C. | A young mother who smothered her 9-month old twin boys with a pillow last fall was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Lakeia Nicole White pleaded guilty but mentally ill Wednesday to two counts of homicide by child abuse. She admitted putting a pillow over her sons Devion and Trevon Wilson on Oct. 11 to settle them down. After smothering the boys, White went back to sleep. She was staying with relatives and left the home when the boys were found dead, prosecutor Blair Jennings said. "I'm sorry for what I did," White told Circuit Judge Roger Young in a soft voice. Cho Seung-Hui, 23, resident alien identified as killer in Virginia Tech massacre   A Virginia Tech senior from South Korea was behind the massacre of at least 30 people locked inside a campus building in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern United States history, the university said Tuesday. Man Accused Of Terrorizing Ex-Girlfriend For Two Days  An Orlando man was jailed on no bond after he allegedly chained up and raped his ex-girlfriend and then tried to force her to marry him. Police said the man was bold enough to walk his victim through metal detectors and past deputies at the busy Orange County courthouse, but it was a text message from a cell phone that lead police to rescue the victim. The suspect already spent months behind bars for stalking the same victim. This time, he told her he wanted her to feel what it was like to be a prisoner. In the end, the tables turned on him and he ended up back in jail. Detectives said 25-year-old Holves Labissiere planned his abduction well, breaking in and kidnapping his victim from her Pine Hills apartment. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Sports: Peoria Central Hoops Coach Arrested  Another teacher in the Peoria Public School system has been arrested suspected of Criminal Sexual Assault. Superintendent Ken Hinton held a news conference Friday offering details of the arrest of 34 year old Andre Williams. Hinton says Williams is a Physical Education teacher at Columbia Middle School & the Head Girls Basketball Coach for Peoria Central High School . Williams has been employed by the district since 1994, and also serves as the Assistant Track Coach. Police Catch Accused Sexual Predator In West Palm Beach A sexual predator who is accused of committing lewd acts on several children is behind bars after police arrest him in West Palm Beach. Police took Andre Cherima into custody. He was taken to Jail, but charges against him were not available. Police have been on an extensive search for Cherima since last Monday, when he allegedly committed ‘acts of a lascivious nature' on 4 children. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

Philippine police launched a criminal investigation after soldiers found the body of a missing American Peace Corps volunteer in a shallow grave Wednesday in a mountainous northern town where she disappeared while hiking. Army spokesman Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres said officials at the site confirmed that the body belonged to
