Black NYC Man Receives 240-Years for Taking Bar Patrons Hostage in Hate Crime N  EW YORK — A judge sentenced a man to 240 years in prison Wednesday for taking hostages in a bar and telling patrons that "white people are going to burn tonight." State Supreme Court Justice Maxwell Wiley told Steven Johnson, 39, who is black, that he had forfeited his "right to live in society." Johnson, 39, was convicted March 1 of attempted murder, assault and other charges, including some designated as hate crimes. Johnson invaded Bar Veloce, in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood, while nine men and six women were inside it June 16, 2002. He was carrying three pistols, a samurai sword and a container of kerosene. He told police he had left the Brooklyn housing project where he lived and taken the subway to go look for "happy" white people to avenge the mistreatment of blacks. He shot and wounded three people, including a police officer, and sprayed kerosene on several customers and threatened to set them on fire. Two women caught Johnson off guard and tackled him, and a policeman shot him. Beverly Hills: Indian-born Celeb Fashion Designer Faces Sexual Assault Charges Prosecutors have added 13 criminal charges against a celebrity fashion designer already accused of three sexual assaults. Prosecutors said the additional charges involve four new women who have accused Anand Jon Alexander of assault, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven. The Indian-born designer was arrested at his Beverly Hills apartment after a woman alleged that he raped her. Black school janitor accused of raping, sodomizing 8-year-old girl A janitor was arrested Monday on charges of raping and sodomizing a student various times at a Brooklyn school where he worked. Bail for Francis Evelyn, 58, was set at $150,000 during his arraignment on rape, sex abuse and other charges. His attorney denied any wrongdoing. Evelyn "was subjected to extreme police pressure to make a statement, an admission," lawyer Richard Spivack told reporters outside court. "He made none because he may very well be innocent." School officials did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment. Authorities said that the girl's mother contacted police this week, telling them her daughter claimed she was sexually abused at school. Guyanese migrant arrested in death of Guyanese migrant woman set to testify against him in rape trial  NEW YORK -- A man was arrested on Tuesday in the fatal sneak-attack slashing of a woman who had agreed to testify against him in a case alleging he raped her, authorities said. The victim, Natasha Ramen, 20, died after suffering a "very deep wound, almost from ear to ear," said police Lt. Salvatore Salerno, who led the homicide investigation. "It was very brutal." The suspect, Brooklyn resident Hemant K. Megnath, was in custody in Queens, where the victim was attacked last week just outside the door of her home. Moncada kills self in cell after DNA links him to rape-murder of 14-year-old White girl  A man believed to be responsible for the 1991 rape and strangling of 14-year-old Jessica McHenry killed himself in a US prison hours after investigators told him DNA evidence linked him to the unsolved case. Derick Moncada, 35, was serving time at Kern Valley State Prison for threatening his girlfriend, beating a former girlfriend and leading police on a chase when Alameda County sheriff's deputies went to question him last week about Jessica's killing. The girl's burned body was found naked from the waist down in a ditch along a rural road in Livermore, east of San Francisco. She was last seen alive walking home from Granada High School earlier in the day. - (Norcal) |
Black Sports: DA calls for special prosecutor case of black footballer accused of raping blonde woman  DENVER – Arapahoe County District Attorney Carol Chamber has recused her office from handling the case of a woman who claims she was raped in 2000 by a former CU football player while he was a recruit. The victim in the case, Marie, told 9NEWS a prosecutor from then Arapahoe DA Jim Peter's office said they would not pursue her case in 2004 because of publicity surrounding the CU football recruiting scandal. In the letter Chambers sent to Heckenbach she said interviews on 9NEWS with both Marie and the alleged suspect, Clyde Surrell, could have changed her office's decision whether to file charges in the case, but she was concerned with the victim's apparent discomfort with her office. - (crime) - (Sports) - (Black-on-white) |
Shreveport: Two Negroes Arrested On Two Separate Rape Charges  Shreveport Police say they've arrested two men on separate charges of aggravated rape. On Wednesday night, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury indicted Eddie McCraney Jr. for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in 2006. Police say it's possible McCraney had been molesting the girl since she was eight-years-old. McCraney's bond is set at $250,000. About 3:00 Thursday morning, police arrested 18-year-old DeAndre Davis for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl. According to police, Davis reportedly began having a relationship with the girl since she was 10. Police also say the girl may be pregnant. Black Cinci police officer indicted on rape charges  A longtime Cincinnati police officer is accused of raping a 40-year-old woman whom he was sent to help after she said she was assaulted by an ex-boyfriend. He told the woman that he would make her "feel better," according to prosecutors. William Simpson, 46, was indicted Friday by a Hamilton County grand jury on three charges of sexual battery and three charges of rape. Prosecutors said Simpson held the woman's wrists and forcibly raped her. A Cincinnati police report says Simpson "coerced the victim into engaging in sexual conduct." Because Simpson was in uniform and carrying a gun, the charges carry a gun specification which could bring additional prison time. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
