Judge Calls Westchester Mall Killer 'Face of Evil' Black Gets 25-To-Life for knifing a woman to death in a mall parking garage because she was white WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A homeless man was sentenced Monday to 25 years to life in prison for knifing a woman to death in a mall parking garage because she was white. "You, Mr. Grant, represent the face of evil," State Supreme Court Justice Lester Adler told the man, Phillip Grant. Grant seemed unmoved as the maximum sentence was imposed. As he was led out of the courtroom, the victim's son, Jonathan Russo, shouted, "Disgusting animal!" Grant, 44, who is black, was convicted in July of murder as a hate crime in the killing of Concetta Russo-Carriero, a 56-year-old legal secretary. She was stabbed twice in the heart in June 2005 in the parking garage of the Galleria mall in downtown White Plains. Captured just minutes later, Grant quickly admitted his guilt, led police to a bloody knife and sat for a videotaped confession in which he ranted about a race war, saying of his victim, "As long as she had blond hair and blue eyes, she had to die." He added that if he'd had a gun, "There'd be a lot of dead white people on the streets of White Plains." - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white) - (Hatecrimes) |
Sheriff: Criminal black boyfriend's race upset parents accused of kidnapping pregnant daughter SALEM, N.H. (AP) — A Maine couple accused of tying up their 19-year-old daughter, throwing her in their car and driving her out of state to get an abortion were upset because the baby's father is black, a Maine sheriff said Tuesday. Katelyn Kampf, who is white, told Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion that her mother "was pretty irate at the fact that the child's father was black, and she had made a number of disparaging remarks about that," he said. Katelyn Kampf escaped Friday at a Salem shopping center and called police, who arrested her parents, Nicholas Kampf, 54, and Lola, 53, both real estate developers from North Yarmouth, Maine. The Kampfs were apparently taking their daughter to New York to try to force her to get an abortion there, police said. Katelyn Kampf said her mother "kept referring to the baby as a thing, as 'It,' and there were other comments made," he said. They invited Katelyn, who is living in Portland with her boyfriend's mother, Peggy Johnson, to come to their house Friday morning. The boyfriend, 22-year-old Reme Johnson, last week began serving a 6-month sentence for theft at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, Maine. He also has previous felony convictions for burglary and receiving stolen property, the Portland Press Herald reported. - (Black-on-white) - (crime) - (Newsroom) |
Alleged Duquesne Gunman Arrested PITTSBURGH, Sept. 19 — A man suspected in the shooting of five basketball players at Duquesne University was taken into custody early this morning, and a female student was charged in connection with the shooting, police officials said. The student, Brittany Jones, 19, helped six men, including some she knew had guns, to enter a dance at the school, according to an affidavit filed in court. The shooting broke out after an argument over a girl early Sunday morning outside the dance. Ms. Jones was charged with recklessly endangering another person, carrying a firearm without a license and two counts of criminal conspiracy. The university said the incident was the first time in the 128-year history of Duquesne, a Roman Catholic institution, that a student had been shot on the campus. In 2005, Duquesne had 350 African-American students and 250 members of other minorities out of a total student population of 8,500.- (Newsroom) |
Va. Man on Trial for Killing Family of 3 RICHMOND, Va. -- A man accused of suffocating a family of three methodically wrapped his victims' faces in duct tape, ransacked their home and then drove off while snacking on food he stole from their refrigerator, a prosecutor said Monday. "He killed them!" prosecutor Matthew Geary said in opening statements, pointing at Ray Joseph Dandridge. "These people lay there three or four minutes before they lost consciousness -- unable to breathe, helpless." Dandridge, 29, is charged with three counts of capital murder in the Jan. 6 killings of Percyell Tucker, 55, his wife, Mary Baskerville-Tucker, 47, and her daughter, Ashley Baskerville, 21. He is charged with killing someone during a robbery, killing more than one person at a time and killing more than one person in a three-year period. Prosecutors say Dandridge and his uncle, Ricky Jovan Gray, killed the family as part of a bloody crime spree that included the slaughter of a second Richmond family less than a week earlier. Gray, also 29, was convicted last month of capital murder for the New Year's Day slayings of musician Bryan Harvey, 49, his wife, Kathryn, 39, and daughters Stella, 9, and Ruby, 4. The family had been bound, beaten with a hammer and stabbed, their throats cut and their bodies set ablaze. - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white) |

Reader news link: "Black Murderer of White Father of Three NYCPD Officers - I Knew It" Son's heartbreak 3 cops struggle with emotions Their proud Queens dad pushed them to become cops, and yesterday Carmine Randazzo's three NYPD sons struggled with feelings of helplessness after his slaying - allegedly by a crazed stabber notorious for random attacks and tirades against whites. "I wish I was there [to stop it]," said youngest son Carmine Randazzo Jr., 39. "That's the strangest thing people are going to say - three cops [in the family], and it happens to him," said the grieving son, who admitted to daydreams about being in uniform at the time and stopping the crime. "What are you going to do? It was a sick man." Carmine Randazzo Sr., 78, was stabbed five times in the arm, back and torso Saturday afternoon after visiting a Queens flea market during his regular neighborhood stroll. William Scott, 28, allegedly jumped out from behind a building and attacked Randazzo without provocation, a police source said. Scott, described by a relative as schizophrenic and on medication, was awaiting arraignment last night on charges of second-degree murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Queens neighbors said Scott had a history of random public violence - and one woman said he once punched her husband in the head on the street. Other neighbors said Scott would roam the neighborhood, angrily cursing white people. Galda Rochleder said she once saw Scott attack a man with a bat, screaming, "You white m----------r!" "He's always muttering to himself, walking back and forth, when he sees white people," she said. "He'll say under his breath "You b-----ds, I hate you." - (reader/newslist) - (crime) - (Black-on-white) - (Hatecrimes) |

Former Dallas city commissioner arrested at male strip club A key target in the FBI's Dallas City Hall corruption investigation was arrested early Sunday morning for public intoxication at a male strip club in northwest Dallas. D'Angelo Lee, the embattled former city plan commissioner, said he went to Knubian Fantasiez to "pick up women" when things turned bad. Lee said men at the male all-nude strip club jumped him and began beating him up. He said the three men were naked, or barely clothed; and when the fight was over they stole his crocodile skin wallet he said was worth $15,000. However, police said no one they talked to at the club would corroborate his robbery story. Police investigating the robbery said Lee had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol and then they said he became a threat. "He refused to leave, so officer's placed him under arrest," Lt. Watson said. Later at the city's detox center, Lee allegedly threatened a female employee saying, "That's all right. I'm going to get you." - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
