Woman tells jurors he bedded her at 16 A charismatic Queens preacher went on trial yesterday accused of seducing an underaged church member he allegedly sweet-talked into a bed full of stuffed animals."He would say that the priest should sleep with the virgin and that's okay to do this because he loved me," the alleged victim, now 21, told jurors in a hushed courtroom yesterday. Bishop William Waynes, founder and pastor of the New Beginning Outreach Love Center, is charged with statutory rape, a crime that carries a prison term of up to four years. Prosecutors say Waynes, 47, who holds a second job as a staffer at Fox Channel 5, began molesting the girl when she was 15 - and bedded her just after her Sweet 16 party in 2000. - (The Bobster) |
Hillsborough deputy job applicant arrested A Tampa man seeking a detention department job with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office ended up behind bars. After an investigator learned that sexual battery suspect James Manning was applying to be a deputy, he was asked to bring paperwork to the sheriff's operation center in Ybor City. He was then arrested and charged with one count of sexual battery of a juvenile from a March 15 incident. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Daniel Hines Takes Stand In Attempted Rape Trial Daniel Hines acquitted in the murder of 11-year-old Shakira Johnson is now on trial for an unrelated attempted rape charge. Daniel Hines took the stand in his own defense for the first time. Hines is charged with gross sexual imposition and attempted rape for an alleged incident involving his 13-year-old cousin in July 2003. |
Grand jury indicts African migrant - former Lymo CEO A grand jury indicted Benedict Shogaolu, the former chief executive officer of the Waccamaw Regional Transportation Authority, on four felony counts of public corruption related to his conduct while heading the mass-transit agency known as Lymo. Man Pleads Guilty in Sexual Assault in Virginia Beach A Virginia Beach man pleaded guilty Wednesday to several sexual assault charges. The Attorney says Kory Johnson admitted to abduction with intent to defile and rape, two counts of object sexual penetration and three counts of forcible sodomy, robbery, and malicious wounding. Police say the 21-year old victim was riding a bike on Virginia Beach Boulevard near Birdneck Road last February when she was attacked.Officials allege Johnson hit her on the head with a metal stick, raped her, and stole her purse and engagement ring.Johnson is facing four other trials for rape. - (Tyrone N. Cleveland Police run DNA test on 'person of interest' in connection to serial rape investigation Cleveland Police, Akron Police and the FBI arrested 37-year-old Nathan C. Ford at a home in Akron. Ford, a former probation officer, was arrested for a parole violation from an aggravated disorderly conduct conviction from 2001. There are indications that he is a person of interest in connection to a investigation of serial rapes stretching from Cleveland to Pennsylvania. "At this point, they indicate that there is a charge of rape." |
Md. Police Arrest Man in Student's Slaying BALTIMORE -- A suspect was charged Wednesday in the January killing of a Johns Hopkins University student in her off-campus apartment, bringing a measure of relief to the prestigious university where another student was murdered only blocks away nine months earlier. Donta M. Allen, 27, was arrested at his Baltimore home within a mile of the school's undergraduate campus and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Linda Trinh, 21. Police said Trinh, a biomedical engineering major from Silver Spring, and her sorority sisters knew the suspect. |
Freed Black Racist Killer Gets Court Costs Wilber Rideau was convicted of murder in 1961 for killing a bank teller in a robbery. He had already served 44 years in prison when a new jury found him guilty of the lesser crime of manslaughter. The maximum for that crime is 21 years, and Rideau was released Jan. 15 on time served. Rideau, 62, never denied that he slit the throat of bank teller hostage Julia Ferguson on Feb. 16, 1961, and shot two others after a robbery. He was convicted and sentenced to death three times before the Supreme Court outlawed existing death penalty laws in the 1970s, commuting his sentence. - (Tyrone N.
