Militiamen in eastern Congo have kidnapped hundreds of civilians from rival ethnic groups, decapitating some, torturing others and forcing the rest to work as porters or sex slaves.     Trial begins for 1995 rape murder case
Terrence EvansJessica ZbrasThe suspected murderer of a 17-year-old Goshen girl will go on trial today. The partially clothed body of Jessica Zbras was found along Rock Run Creek in Goshen nearly 10-years ago. It wasn't until 35-year-old Terrence Evans was arrested last year that police had a suspect in the case. Evans had been the boyfriend of Jessica's mother. A probable cause affidavit shows Evans allegedly told a woman details about strangling and dumping Jessica's body. Suspect charged in 1995 murder case - (Brewski)

    Victim, Suspect Die In Standoff At Arlington Gas Station

A man who was briefly held hostage by a gunman was fatally shot in a standoff at an Arlington gas station Sunday morning, then police killed the gunman who had been threatening customers. Jacksonville Sheriff's Officers identified the suspect as 46-year-old James Carter Jr. Carter had just shot and killed Ronald Alan Elder, who stopped at the station on his way to a planned day of fishing. Elder, 43, a native of Birmingham, Ala., and a Navy veteran, repaired radios for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and led a church youth group. He and his wife had an 18-month-old son. - (Tyrone N.     Ex-Caregiver Charged in Fla. Girl's Death
Geralyn GrahamMIAMI -- Rilya Wilson's disappearance four years ago scandalized Florida's child-protection agency, but prosecutors say they now know what happened to the 4-year-old and charged one of her caretakers with murder. Geralyn Graham, who was supposed to be taking care of the foster child, confessed while in jail on unrelated fraud charges. Investigators later found corroborating evidence. "She basically broke down and told someone in the jail details about Rilya Wilson, including how she killed her," said Fernandez Rundle, who declined to give details. - (Brewski)

    KC Police Officer Resigns In Wake Of Theft Charges
Marshon PopKANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A former police officer has been charged with stealing. Marshon Pope, 38, resigned from the Kansas City Police Department Tuesday afternoon. He had been with the force since 1997. Pope was charged with criminal theft. He is accused of stealing cash from drivers he pulled over during traffic stops. Police Chief Jim Corwin said officers and FBI agents set up a sting operation Tuesday. An undercover agent posed as a driver who didn't speak English. The agent had marked bills in his car. Pope pulled the undercover agent over and allegedly took the marked money. - (White Boy)

    Occupied Okinawa: Black sailor charged in stabbing death
Audley Evans IIROYAL PALM BEACH — Audley Evans II joined the Navy to pursue his dream of being a dentist. But the 20-year-old sailor now faces a possible death sentence, charged with killing a fellow sailor at the U.S. Marine base in Okinawa, Japan. Evans, a 2003 graduate of Suncoast High School, is imprisoned along with two other sailors and a Marine at the Camp Hansen Brig, awaiting a murder trial in the stabbing death of Adam Palecco, 21. - (reader link)

    Restaurant Shooting Trial
James McCoyA man will be tried this morning, for a bizarre shooting at a Philadelphia restaurant last year because he didn't like his food. Police say James McCoy opened fire at the Old Country Buffet in Summerdale last July because he was unhappy with his food. Fortunately, the bullets did not hit anyone.     UK: Cannibal killer gets life for killings

A convicted killer with "a desire to cannibalise his victims" has been jailed for the "rest of his natural life" after admitting killing two men. Peter Bryan, 34, was arrested as he was eating part of one man, Brian Cherry, 43, at Mr Cherry's London flat. He went on to kill Richard Loudwell, 59, at Broadmoor special hospital in April last year, while on remand. Judge Giles Forrester said: "You killed on these last two occasions because it gave you a thrill and a feeling of power when you ate flesh. Hammer killing "The violence on each occasion was extreme and unpredictable, accompanied by bizarre and sexual overtones." Bryan was sent to a secure hospital after admitting beating 20-year-old shop assistant Nisha Sheth to death with a hammer as she worked in her family's clothes shop in Chelsea.     St. Paul: Murder Suspect Charged With Rape

Nathaniel C. Glass has been charged with raping a woman and police said he is also a suspect in the murder of Memory Pachowicz. Nathaniel C. Glass, 26, was charged with one count of criminal sexual conduct. Prosecutors allege Glass approached a female pedestrian in a car and asked if she wanted a ride. The woman accepted, Glass allegedly took the woman to an apartment. Once at the apartment, the woman became “spooked” because the apartment appeared vacant. The woman saw a bed frame, pillows, a hammer and clutter in the apartment, but no furniture. While in the apartment Glass put a knife to the woman’s face and raped her. - (Brewski)

Stanley L. HallBarbara Jo Wood Eleven years after he threw a woman to her death in the icy Mississippi River, Stanley L. Hall of St. Louis was executed by injection. Hall, 37, was pronounced dead at 12:06 a.m. in the Potosi Correctional Center for the murder of Barbara Jo Wood of south St. Louis County on Jan. 14, 1994. He and an accomplice had kidnapped her from the South County Shopping Center because they planned to use her car in a drive-by shooting.
