Black arrested in rape of pregnant teen in Delray Beach When deputies picked up an Ohio man early on Jan. 20 for being drunk and disorderly, he cooled off in jail for a few hours, then walked out of jail and headed back to Cleveland. Only then did Delray Beach police peg the man as the prime suspect in a sexual battery hours earlier on a 17-year-old girl who was eight months pregnant. About 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 19, the girl was walking north on a sidewalk in the 100 block of S.E. Seventh Avenue when a man came up from behind her, grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into a row of hedges. When she tried to resist and pull away, the man poised as if to punch her; fearing for her life and that of her fetus, she complied, police said. - (Newsroom) |

Ex-basketballer Rayshun gets 1,015 years in prison for rapes A serial rapist was sentenced Thursday night to 1,015 years in prison plus six consecutive life terms after he told a judge, "I don’t have any remorse.” Rayshun Carlie Mullins, 26, was punished for attacks on nine women in Oklahoma County in 2003 and 2004. Jurors Thursday found Mullins guilty of 26 crimes for the attacks including rape, kidnapping, robbery and burglary. Jurors chose punishments ranging from 5 years to 125 years and life in prison. "You are such a danger to this community that I am pleased that you will never again be free,” the judge said. - (Newsroom) |
Two Delray Beach mall workers grab black suspect in rape of woman, 69 Two alert mall workers nabbed a veteran felon after he sexually assaulted a 69-year-old woman this morning. Jonathan Brown, 41, is charged with sexual battery and robbery. The woman was attacked about 10 a.m. today as she shopped at the Delray Crossings Plaza. The man followed her into a breezeway in the southeast corner of the mall, grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground and assaulted her. Two managers for the mall's property management group, heard the victim's screams, raced in that direction, and found Brown attacking the woman, police said. The two dragged Brown away from the woman, called 911, and held Brown until officers arrived. - (Newsroom) |
Black mental patient charged in rape of two Laurelwood patients A man accused of sexually assaulting two women while being treated at a Gainesville mental health and substance abuse center has been charged with rape. Kevin Norman, 41, of Athens, was arrested on one count of rape, Gainesville police announced. Norman was alleged to have sexually assaulted two fellow patients inside Laurelwood hospital. However, so far police have only been able to substantiate one rape, in which a 19-year-old woman was a victim on Jan 10, Kelly said. The 19-year-old victim and a 31-year-old woman came forward on Jan. 11 to report being raped by the same suspect, - (Newsroom) |
Black takes plea deal in gang rape of Alabama woman  MOBILE, Ala. -- A prosecutor explained earlier today that 55-year-old Sam Melton was allowed to plead guilty to sex abuse instead of rape because he cooperated with authorities in a Prichard gang rape of a Saraland woman in January 2007. Assistant District Attorney Deborah Tillman said Melton was one of 4 men who raped the woman after she was abducted from in front of a Chickasaw convenience store and taken to Melton's Alabama Village home. Melton was sentenced to 16 years in prison Wednesday. Tillman said he identified one of the other attackers, whose DNA, like that of Melton, was found when the victim underwent a hospital rape kit test shortly after the attack. - (Newsroom) |
Black teen sentenced to 40 years on rape conviction Mario A. Reed, 18, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after his October conviction on two counts of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary and theft of property. Reed, who was 17 at the time of the offenses, was found guilty of breaking into the apartment of a female Army officer in December 2007, raping her at gunpoint and taking some items when he left. - (Newsroom) |
Statutory rape brings Lynchburg black 6-year sentence A Lynchburg man was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday for the statutory rape of a 12-year-old girl. Cedric Reid, who was 17 at the time of the offense, was tried as an adult and is now 18. He pleaded guilty in September. “I’m sick to my stomach to think she’s the age she is,” Reid told Lynchburg Circuit Court Judge Mosby Perrow. He told the court that codefendant Randall Hamlet and one of the girl’s friends told him the victim was 15 years old. - (Newsroom) |
