Sergio Antonio Martinez-GarzaBREWSTER -- Police have arrested a man on charges that he sexually abused two girls, a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old. Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Bail has been set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. "Hispanic" sought as suspect in rape at orchard
Rodolfo Ramirez TinajeroYakima County sheriff's detectives have secured an arrest warrant for a man suspected of raping a woman after luring her to a local orchard with promises of work. Rodolfo Ramirez Tinajero, 43, is wanted on suspicion of first-degree rape in that Aug. 6 attack. Detectives are still investigating whether he was involved in a similar April case where a woman was raped in a Lower Valley orchard after answering a radio ad for work. Detective Richard Mottice said the second victim identified Ramirez Tinajero in a photo lineup, but the first victim was not able to do so. Investigators focused on Ramirez Tinajero as a possible suspect after checking the cell phone number in the radio ad, Mottice said. The April incident caused concern among local Spanish-language radio stations because employers and workers rely on the broadcasts. In last week's incident, the victim was looking for orchard work when the suspect approached her. The man told her he knew where to find work and persuaded her to follow him to a nearby orchard. He then ordered her out of the car. When she refused, he opened the door, held her at knifepoint and forced her to the ground. - (Newsroom) - (Invasion!) - (Northwest)

Closing arguments in 1985 Black-on-White rape-murder trial in San Francisco
John DavisBarbara MartzJurors heard closing arguments Thursday in a 22-year-old San Francisco murder case in which the only evidence against the defendant was DNA he allegedly left behind during the rape of the 28-year-old victim. Prosecutor Claudia Phillips said the odds that someone other than the defendant, John Davis, committed the Dec. 4, 1985, burglary, rape and fatal stabbing of Barbara Martz were in the quadrillions-to-1 and quintillions-to-1, based on the rarity of his DNA pattern. A quadrillion is a 1 followed by 15 zeroes; a quintillion is a 1 followed by 18 zeroes. "Modern science has finally caught up with Mr. Davis," Phillips told the jury in San Francisco Superior Court. "Modern science tells you who raped and murdered Barbara Martz." But Davis' defense attorney challenged the reliability of the DNA evidence while at the same time suggesting several theories, including that Martz may have had consensual sex with Davis sometime before the slaying and that someone else committed the killing. Davis told police, however, that he did not know Martz and had never been in her home. He told investigators, "I don't remember raping nobody," authorities said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white)

Black accused in two of the area's serial rapist attacks is due in court
Nathan Antonio "Tony" WashingtonThe man accused in two of the area's serial rapist attacks is due in court. Day one in what could be a very long legal process for Nathan Antonio "Tony" Washington. His case comes down to the DNA evidence against him. "This is new science. New technology, but today DNA evidence is the gold standard," stated UVA Law professor Anne Coughlin. That gold standard could make it difficult for someone to defend Washington. Although all the details of the case haven't come to light, UVA law professor Anne Coughlin says DNA secures a rape case. - (Newsroom) - (crime)

  • Seattle: Pro-illegal migrant criminals attack Americans and police with beer cans
SEATTLE -- What were supposed to be two separate protests by two opposing groups turned violent when the one group grew confrontational and threw balloons and beer bottles at its opposition on Saturday. Some 200 people gathered to protest against what they claim is President Bush's support of a North American union which, the protesters claim, would eliminate U.S. sovereignty. "Not every illegal immigrant is a criminal - we understand that, but we are allowing people into this nation who are doing us harm," said Jonnie Crivello, a protester. The protesters gathered at the Seattle Center and marched down Third Avenue to the Federal Building. While rallied there, they were bombed with beer cans and balloons by counter-protesters who were holding their own rally, prompting police to intervene. About 50 counter-protesters were present, claiming shutting down the border is a racist act. "We say no human being is illegal and everybody - just by working here - automatically has the right to live here," said Jorge Torres, a counter-protester. Police said many of their officers were hurt during the protests. No arrests were made. - (Newsroom) - (Invasion!) - (Northwest)

  • Former Satanist Convicted of Human Sacrifice - cannibalism
MIAMI -- The Miami man accused of killing another man in what prosecutors call a satanic human sacrifice has been found guilty of second degree murder. The jury of six women and two men took just more than two hours to return the verdict. During the two days of testimony, prosecutors used a mannequin and knitting needles to demonstrate for jurors how Lazaro Galindo killed and dismembered a romantic rival, Argelio Gonzalez, in July 2000. Gonzalez was stabbed and hacked 28 times, his leg and fingers cut off, and his remains were stuffed in a garbage and abandoned in a field, prosecutors said. When detectives tracked down Galindo, they say he confessed to the crime in detail, blaming a spirit inside him named Candelo for directing his actions. "He raised the spectre of Satanism by saying that he practiced Satanism and his human sacrifice was to gain power over demonic entities," said prosecutor Herbert E. Walker III
