Police renew search for black for rape and murder of 14-year-old girl A cold case is heating up as investigators renew their search for a killer. Members of the Fulton County District Attorney's Cold Case Squad recruited volunteers to go door-to-door in East Point Saturday to help generate news leads in the 1995 murder of Nacole Smith. Smith was on her way to middle school when police said she was raped, then shot to death. She was 14-years-old at the time. The victim's mother, Acqunellia Smith, joined the volunteers during their search for leads Saturday. "There are no days that I don't cry and I don't think about her. I find myself keeping her close to me and to my heart," Smith said as she displayed a necklace with a gold heart locket containing Nacole's picture. According to police, DNA evidence proves the same man who killed Smith raped another 14-year-old girl in a wooded area in East Point nine years later in 2004. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
| Moe Gibbs News - Gibbs' Attorney Asks to Have Restraints Removed - Morgenstern Memorial Under Construction   Moe Gibbs will stand trial for the death of Valley City State University student Mindy Morgenstern who was killed in September. Glen Dale Morgan, Junior, as Gibbs was known at the time, was reportedly sentenced to ten years for attempted murder in 1992, and spent time in federal prisons in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Phoenix, as well as in Kansas.
Police also say D-N-A evidence links Gibbs to a 2004 rape in Fargo. Gibbs' DNA matched DNA found under Morgenstern's fingernails. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

Black guilty of homo rape and murder of girlfriend's 3-year-old baby boy  CINCINNATI -- A three-judge panel on Friday afternoon convicted Lamont Hunter of the rape and murder of 3-year-old Trustin Blue. A deputy coroner testified earlier in the morning that Trustin Blue’s injuries were not consistent with a fall down the stairs, which has been the claim by Hunter since the 3-year-old suffered fatal injuries Jan. 19, 2006. A hearing is scheduled for July 19 to determine whether Hunter will be sentenced to death or life in prison for his conviction on charges of aggravated murder, rape and child endangering. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black SC sex offender charged with rape of 70-year-old woman in Alabama A sex offender from South Carolina has been charged with rape in Alabama. The Macon County Sheriff's Office says 39-year-old Arthur Witherspoon raped a 70-year-old woman in Shorter, which is 15 to 20 miles northeast of Montgomery. Investigators say Witherspoon severely beat the woman. As of Friday night, she's recovering in a hospital. Witherspoon - who is on South Carolina's Sex Offender list - moved to Macon County a few months ago. He's now in the Macon County Jail charged with rape. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black accused of rape of 78-year-old woman - Trial Postponed  The trial of Antonio McAllister will continue for two more days, then come to a halt. Prosecutors asked for time to allow investigators to look deeper into the DNA evidence that's been presented so far. The trial will stop Thursday, then resume June 25. McAllister is accused of raping and beating a 78-year-old Pender County woman two years ago. Detective Scott Lawson testified Tuesday on his role in the investigation and the clues that possibly point to McAllister. The victim's doctor also testified on the extent of damage to the woman's left eye. The jurors will have to remember what they've heard so far, and not talk about the case during the delay. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black Who Killed 6 Relatives Pleads Guilty LANCASTER, Pa. - A man who beat and stabbed six relatives to death and left their bloody bodies in the basement while he went on a shopping spree pleaded guilty to murder Friday and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Jesse D. "Jay" Wise avoided the possibility of execution, prosecutors said, because surviving family members asked them not to seek it. Prosecutors said Wise, 22, killed his grandmother, two aunts, two cousins and an uncle over a four-day period in April 2006 and left their bodies in the basement while continuing to spend time in the home the family shared in Leola. Jail Releases Black Double-Murder Suspect by Accident TRENTON, N.J. - A double-murder suspect was mistakenly released from jail after posting $200 bail, and authorities were searching for him Wednesday. A series of "clerical errors" were blamed for Dontay Brannon's release on Monday, Mercer County spokeswoman Julie Willmot said. The error was discovered the next day, and police started their hunt. "We're investigating why, even with all of these fail-safe measures in place, this person was released," she said, adding that several people were required to sign off on his discharge. Brannon, 19, is charged with murder in the shooting deaths of two people in November in Trenton and had been held at the Mercer County Correctional Center since March. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
