The two victims were white; the five defendants are black     KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- In a powerful demonstration of the way the Internet has opened up the mainstream media to intensive second-guessing, bloggers are charging that news outlets have ignored the rape and murder of a young Knoxville couple because of the racial implications of the story. The two victims were white; the five defendants are black. The critics include mainstream conservatives, such as the National Review, and white "supremacists". They have drawn comparisons to the Duke lacrosse rape case and wondered why the killings of Channon Christian, a 21-year-old University of Tennessee student, and her 23-year-old boyfriend Christopher Newsom are not getting the same attention from what the bloggers regard sneeringly as the liberal media. "Oh, that's right, the victims were WHITE!" several conservative blogs have observed. Or as National Review columnist Jack Dunphy commented online: "Uh oh, we're not supposed to talk about such things, are we." |
| Christian and Newsom were last seen Jan. 6. They were carjacked as they were leaving a friend's apartment. Newsom's shot and burned body was found the next day along the railroad tracks, and Christian's corpse was discovered two days later in a trash can at a house rented by one of the defendants. Both had been sexually assaulted. Household cleaner had been poured in her mouth to remove (black DNA) evidence, according to court records. Christian's father, Gary Christian, wore a Confederate flag T-shirt  to the first hearing for one of the defendants and then pointed at the man as if firing a gun.Among the bloggers who have questioned the media coverage is country singer Charlie Daniels. Police identify negro teen suspected in rape, beating of 81-year-old woman A 16-year-old neighborhood boy is the suspect in the beating and rape of an 81-year-old widow who was the victim of an apparently random attack at her home over the weekend, Shreveport police said today. Detectives this afternoon obtained a court order to arrest Calvin "C.J." Breakfield of Bienville Street on aggravated rape charges. He is expected to be prosecuted in Caddo District Court, where the penalty could be far tougher than allowed in juvenile court. He forced his way into the house and then began beating the woman and dragging her through the house before raping her. The woman was robbed -- including the contents of her piggy bank -- before her attacker left. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Three blacks accused of gang-raping a White girl - "A broom handle also was reportedly used"   LOCKPORT — The alleged victim in a gang rape last year testified Friday that she didn’t report the incident at first because she didn’t want to be seen as a racist. Three African-American 17- year-olds — Nicholas M. Smith and Dontre R. Woods, both of Lockport, and Dartaine M. Ubiles of Niagara Falls — are on trial in Niagara County Court, charged with raping the girl in Woods’ home. The girl is white. She was cross-examined Friday by defense attorneys for all three defendants. “At first I had it look like everything was willing because I didn’t want to lose all my friends, I didn’t want it to look like I was racist . . .” the girl told Smith’s attorney...“I tried to hide the truth to keep them from getting in trouble.” - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white) |
Negro teen charged with rape in series of break-ins Police said that a jailed teenager has been charged with rape, kidnapping and other charges connected to a string of burglaries and assaults. Darrian Dewayne Bryant, 17, was arrested in on seven counts of burglary in connection with break-ins in his neighborhood. Police charged him with rape, kidnapping, aggravated battery, child molestation, two counts of battery and four additional counts of burglary. The rape of a 15-year-old Parkview High School student during a break-in outraged the community. She was the third woman attacked in the course of the neighborhood crime wave. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

Negro admits killing his 2-year-old son 17 years ago - gets out of jail A Hudson County judge on Friday approved a plea deal, despite the objections of a crying mother, that sets free a man who admitted to killing the couple's son 17 years ago. The mother of Curtis McCoy begged Judge Peter Vasquez to throw out the deal that will allow Curtis Williams to be released with time served. Williams confessed to beating his son to death, after having claimed for nearly 16 years that he had "lost the child while shopping in Newark". Williams said he buried the body under an elevated portion of the New Jersey Turnpike. He told Hudson County prosecutors where to find the body, as part of a plea deal that frees him after serving just 20 months in prison. But after digging for two days earlier this year, authorities never found the body of Curtis McCoy. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
