Rape Suspects Gracia and Munoz Charges On Hold
Robert Gracia and Beinto MunozPorterville police said that their investigation today lead them to conduct interviews in and outside the city of Porterville. At the end of the day, however, police say they still need more information to charge the suspects in the rape and kidnap of two women.
Robert Gracia (left) and Beinto Munoz
remain in custody tonight. But, not on kidnapping, rape or conspiracy charges. Gracia is in custody for check fraud and an unspecified felony. Munoz remains behind bars for domestic violence and DUI charges. Police insist the delay in filing rape and kidnap charges, doesn't mean they doubt the victims' claims of being locked up and raped repeatedly for two days.
Alleged Victim in South Valley Rape & Kidnaping Arrested
Porterville police initially thought Samantha Stuart was a victim, but they now say she knew Gracia and Munoz and introduced them to a woman who went through a horrible ordeal. Ortega's driver's license found near rape victim - Police seeking three other 'Latinos'
Just hours after a Stockton woman was dragged from her home early Saturday, raped and left on a Stanislaus County levee road, a driver's license found on the road may have led to one of her attackers. Robert Tonny Ortega, 19, of Stockton was arrested Saturday at his home on suspicion of rape, lewd and lascivious acts, penetration with a foreign object, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and possession of stolen property, police said. The woman was taken to a hospital after the attack, Stockton police Sgt. Eric Ingersoll said, but the extent of her injuries was not known late Saturday. The woman told Stockton police that she was sleeping at her home near San Joaquin Delta College when five men kicked open her door early Saturday morning, hit her with a baseball bat and forced her into an older sport utility vehicle. - (Norcal)

  • Zimbabwe may let whites farm again
Robert MugabeZimbabwe, facing food shortages blamed partly on its large-scale seizures of white-owned farms, is considering allowing some interested whites to return to farming, a minister said. President Robert Mugabe's government has received more than 200 applications from whites to take up farming again, land minister Flora Buka said on Saturday during an agriculture conference in South Africa. "As regards white commercial farmers, there are some who have indicated that they would want to continue farming," Buka told Reuters. "Their applications are being considered. If they are willing to stay, that is also going to be considered. Also, the amount of land they have is also going to be considered." Asked if the government was still confiscating land from whites to redistribute to blacks, Buka said: "Yes, we are still resettling our people on the land that is state land." Many of Zimbabwe's white farmers have gone overseas or to other African countries after often violent land grabs backed by Mugabe, who initiated the redistribution program six years ago. - (Africa)

Man Pleads No Contest In Fatal Lenexa Stabbing
Charles RiddleNigel MarcotteOLATHE, Kan. -- A Johnson County man pleaded no contest to murder in a case of "random" violence. Police said Nigel Marcotte, 42, was stabbed to death in his Lenexa home in December 2005 because he left his garage door open."He was a wonderful man, a wonderful husband and he's missed every day by numerous people," said Reina Marcotte, Nigel's widow. Prosecutors said Charles "Kris" Riddle, of Olathe, stole the victim's credit cards and used two of them. Riddle's plea of no contest means he admits the state has enough evidence to convict him. Investigators said Riddle chose the Marcotte home because the garage door was open. Police said Riddle first stole credit cards from Marcotte's car, then went inside and confronted him. Riddle was armed with a watermelon knife and wore gloves and a ski mask, police said.Investigators said Riddle used two of the stolen credit cards in Platte County, one was at a grocery store, the other was "at an Outback Steakhouse about nine hours after the homicide to buy Mr. Riddle and a couple of his buddies dinner there and drinks." - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white)

Father accused of murdering newborn - Mother charged with failure to protect
 Antonio Clark
Police say a 22-year-old man murdered his newborn daughter at their home. Authorities were called when the baby stopped breathing. The baby, who was premature at birth, was pronounced dead. She had only been home for 10 days before police say that her father's rough handling killed her. "He's lost a daughter and now he's in trouble for what happened," said Sergeant Mike Carr. Antonio Clark admitted to two incidents of abuse. The baby suffered head injuries that caused her brain to swell, chest injuries, and fractured ribs. But it was the autopsy that uncovered a possible murder. Police officers spent the afternoon searching the home. Officials said that the mother, Michelle Frye, was home at the time the baby died. Frye and Clark also have a 20-month-old boy bastard.
