Within days, the wounded bin Laden henchman Zubaydah was being subjected to coercive interrogation techniques — he was stripped, held in an icy room and jarred by earsplittingly loud music — the genesis of practices later adopted by some within the military, and widely used by the Central Intelligence Agency in handling prominent terrorism suspects at secret overseas prisons. • 3 Migrants from Yemen Indicted in Military Secrets Case
FRESNO, Calif. -- Three men accused of trying to obtain secret defense information and stolen military equipment to send to Yemen were indicted Thursday, federal prosecutors said. The men, all born in Yemen but now U.S. citizens, face conspiracy charges. "The fact that they were seeking to acquire information and send it to a foreign country is very serious," said Carl Faller, an assistant U.S. attorney in Fresno. "We've interrupted a group that was very interested in buying information and military items." The two-year investigation began when Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials tipped the FBI off about a shipment of chemical suits and body armor from Long Beach to Yemen. The shipment was traced to Ibrahim A. Omer, 40, of Fort Worth, Texas, officials said. Omer planned with Amen Ahmed Ali, 56, to send the items to Yemen, which is illegal without authorization from the U.S. Department of State, federal prosecutors said. It is not unlawful to own the equipment and permits to ship them abroad are available. Mohamed Al-Rahimi, 62, of Bakersfield, was indicted for traveling to Yemen to broker the sale of the military equipment. He remains at large.

Suspect Who Kidnaped and Raped White Female Lawyer Escapes Ala. Prison
Sandra Eubank Gregory
A man charged in the videotaped kidnapping of a female lawyer who was grabbed at gunpoint outside her downtown loft has escaped from prison, possibly with help, authorities said Friday. Authorities tried using tracking dogs to hunt for Dedrick Griham, but they lost his scent at a road outside the lockup. Officials said they did not know where he was headed. Griham, who has a long criminal record and apparently was out on parole by mistake at the time of the abduction, is accused of rape, sodomy and robbery in the May 31 kidnapping, which was captured by a parking lot surveillance camera as the lawyer got out of her car. The abduction drew wide notice as the videotape, which shows a man approaching and pushing her inside before driving off, was aired on cable television a short time after it occurred. The woman's ordeal ended that afternoon when she was rescued from a motel room where law officers said she had been held against her will. The woman, whose isn't being named because of the sex-assault charges, was not in her law office but was safe Friday, a firm employee said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white)

The ordeal began early in the morning, when witnesses say they saw a gunman force a family law attorney back into the Lexus she was driving. Then, they sped away. It ended nine hours later, when authorities found 34-year-old Sandra Eubank Gregory at a Comfort Inn motel a few miles away.

Third Suspect Surrenders in Man's Beating Death
Emmanuel JacksonThree teenagers have been charged with robbery and murder, and police say a fourth suspect is still on the loose. 18-year-old Emmanuel Jackson was arraigned Friday morning on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery. A judge set Jackson's bail at $3 million. Police say Jackson turned himself in Thursday after the community identified him from a surveillance video that was aired on TV. The video shows 43-year-old Terry Ward being struck in a parking lot on Sullivant Avenue last weekend. Ward died from that incident that also included him being robbed. Two other teens, 15-year-old Elijah Nicholas and 14-year-old Joshua Conley, have also been arrested. Police say both teens could be seen on the tape. - (crime)

  • Authorities Arrest 19 (Africans) in 1,000 Sham Marriages
ARLINGTON, Va. -- Authorities arrested 19 people Thursday after uncovering a scheme that arranged as many as 1,000 phony marriages in northern Virginia between U.S. citizens seeking cash and illegal immigrants seeking green cards. Many of those who were married never met until they showed up at the courthouse to apply for their marriage license, said U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg. "We don't normally take an opinion on matters of the heart, but it's safe to say in this case that we do not believe in love at first sight," Rosenberg said. The arrests came after a three-year investigation. In all, 22 people were charged, and 19 have so far been arrested, authorities said. Among those charged were "facilitators" who brokered the marriages for fees ranging from $2,500 to $6,000, illegal immigrants who wanted a marriage as a way to obtain permanent residency, and U.S. citizens who received initial payments of $500 plus monthly installments totaling up to $3,600 for participating, authorities said. Most of those involved in the scheme were from Ghana.

  • Sodomy Is A Crime- by Jim Rudd
After confronting people out on the street with what the Word of God says and then reading what is happening in the news, I have to ask the question, "Why are the pro-family groups having such a hard time discussing the crime of sodomy?" What has become evident to me is the fact that most of these groups do not publicly address sodomy as a crime and then demand that our civil authorities arrest, prosecute, and punish the sodomites.

  • Is Bush the Antichrist? - By Chuck Baldwin - The Covenant News ~ April 12, 2002
During the eight years of Clinton's presidency, I was repeatedly asked, "Chuck, do you think Bill Clinton is the antichrist?" (Of course, I answered no.) Therefore, it is more than interesting to me that since G.W. Bush became president no one has asked if I thought he was the antichrist. Not one single person! Instead, many people attribute to Bush god-like qualities, which actually makes him a better candidate than Clinton was.

The Naked President by Chuck Baldwin
"naked president"I well remember back in the 2000 elections many conservatives (especially conservative Christians) attempting to assuage my trepidation and misgiving regarding then candidate George W. Bush by saying, "Chuck, don't worry; Bush cannot act like a conservative, because he wouldn't be able to get elected [Funny how it didn't stop Ronald Reagan!] if he did. But be assured that once he is elected, you will see his true conservatism." - (Commentary)
