Satan worshiper executed for triple murders LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- A man who said he worshipped Satan and enjoyed killing three people, stabbing and beating them and stomping on them with steel-toed boots, was executed Tuesday. Darrell Ferguson, 28, the youngest person put to death in Ohio since 1962, died by injection at 10:21 a.m. at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. He had asked for the death penalty and chose not to pursue appeals, which could have delayed his execution for years. At his sentencing, he taunted the victims' families, saying he worshipped Satan, enjoyed the killings, had no remorse, and, if released from prison, would pick up where he left off. |

Black man arrested for allegedly killing White Gentile Illinois tourist who stopped for directions MIAMI (AP) -- A "bad Samaritan" accused of fatally shooting an Illinois tourist who stopped to ask directions turned himself into police Friday, authorities said. Brandon Antron Rolle, was arrested in the robbery and murder of Ronald Gentile, Miami Police spokesman Delrish Moss said. "He came here to the station and walked into the front desk with family members saying he had something the he needed to clear up," Moss said. Moss would not say whether Rolle confessed to the crime, but said investigators were interviewing him. Authorities say Gentile -- a furniture salesman from Homewood, Ill. -- was here celebrating his son Paul's 17th birthday. He dropped the teen off at his restaurant job at a shopping mall and the two planned to meet later Saturday to watch "Superman Returns." Police said they believe Gentile, 54, pulled over in the Coconut Grove area to ask for directions when a man dressed entirely in black approached the car, robbed and shot him. Gentile was seen exiting his rental car, running a short distance, then collapsing. He was pronounced dead en route to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-white) |

Former Atlanta Mayor Ordered to Prison ATLANTA -- A federal judge on Thursday rejected former Mayor Bill Campbell's request to remain free pending appeal of his tax evasion conviction and ordered him to start serving his 2 1/2-year prison sentence. Campbell "has not shown the existence of a substantial question likely to result in reversal, a new trial, or a reduction in his sentence," District Judge Richard W. Story wrote. The judge's deputy, Rick Goss, said Campbell has until Aug. 21 to report to federal prison, though the location has not yet been determined. Campbell was convicted of the charge in March. He was acquitted of federal bribery and racketeering charges stemming from accusations that he lined his pockets with payoffs from city contractors as leader of Atlanta during the 1990s.
