Quinn claimed he was convicted because he was black and the victim was white Despite a vow at his sentencing in December, 2005, that his convictions for rape and kidnapping would be overturned, the appeal for Jeremy Quinn, Jr., was denied in a decision released yesterday by Ohio’s 6th District Court of Appeals. Quinn, 26, was sentenced to 70 years in prison after being found guilty by a Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury on six counts of rape and one count of kidnapping. He was convicted of the July 18, 2005, kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl from her Sylvania Township home and for raping her repeatedly in a secluded area. Judge James Jensen sentenced Quinn to the maximum amount of prison time. In a 26-page opinion, the appellate court upheld the conviction and the sentence. Black raped a Danforth Elementary School teacher and another woman  The jury found 24-year-old Joshua Blash guilty on one count of rape, two counts of aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of burglary. A judge sentenced him to three consecutive life sentences. The D.A.'s office says in 2001, Blash raped a Danforth Elementary School teacher, and sexually assaulted a woman in her East Macon home. Blash was in prison on other charges, but Macon Police were able to match his DNA with samples from the crime scene. - (Newsroom) |

Black on trial for rape and murder of White woman - left her freezing to death behind trash bins  A 61-year-old woman who was raped and abandoned outdoors in frigid temperatures was able to describe the assault and her attacker before she died of exposure, a police officer testified. Denver police officer Michael Oestmann said he found a partially clothed Judith Pyle between trash bins in an alley after he was sent to the area Dec. 9 on reports of a woman screaming for help. "She said she saw the suspect when she got off a bus and that he followed her, pushed her into the alley, held her down and . . . raped her. " Pyle also told the officer that she was cold and unable to get up, but described her attacker as a black man in his 50s, wearing a tan jacket with a hood. Oestmann's testimony came during a preliminary hearing in Denver County Court on whether there was probable cause to try Willie James Trimble, a repeat parole violator, in Pyle's death. Prosecutors charged Trimble, 46, with felony murder and sexual assault of an at-risk adult. - (Newsroom) - (Black-on-white) |
Negro charged with sexually assaulting 4-month-old at day care A 23-year-old Louisiana man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 4-month-old child at a Killeen day care. The Killeen Police Department announced Friday that they had arrested Terrance Charles Beard. Officials said he will be held in the Bell County Jail on $200,000 bail. Police said Beard is accused of assaulting the infant Feb. 20 at the Little Blessing Daycare on North 10th Street. Day care workers told the infant's mother that her daughter had been injured and after seeing the injuries, the mother took the child to a local hospital and contacted police, officials said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

Charges reduced against mothers in 5 Larimer deaths Two mothers pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter yesterday in the deaths of five children left unattended at a Larimer home when it accidentally caught fire in June. The women had gone to have a beer at a nearby tavern, leaving their five younger children in the care of their 8-year-old sons, who survived the blaze unharmed. Police said the 8-year-olds may have been playing with matches. It was partly out of concern for the two boys -- Huedon Chambliss and Jevon Irwin, now 9 -- that the pleas were accepted and additional multiple charges of child endangerment and reckless endangerment against the mothers, Shakita M. Mangham and Furaha T. Love, were dropped. Now the boys won't have to testify. - (Newsroom) |
NY Mom Held in Deaths of 3 Children GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) — Three young children found dead in their apartment appeared to have been drowned or poisoned, and one had her throat cut, police said Monday. A girl, 6, and two boys, ages 5 and 1, were found dead in a bed wearing their night clothes after their mother called police early Sunday claiming she had killed them, Lt. Michael Fleming said. "They almost looked as though they were sleeping," he said. "It almost looked like they were cuddled up together for the night." The mother, Leatrice Brewer, 27, called 911, telling an operator "she killed her babies. She even spelled her name to the 911 operator," Fleming said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Black cop Bobby Cutts Jr. breaks down on stand asking jury to spare his life for the Murder of white girlfriend   CANTON, Ohio - he statements by the 2 1/2-year-old son of former police officer Bobby Cutts Jr. and his pregnant lover, Jessie Davis, were investigators' first clues that Cutts may have had something to do with her disappearance. Cutts could receive the death penalty if convicted of killing Davis, who was nearly full term with a female fetus when she died last June.
