State Sen. Gary Siplin Found Guilty Of Felony Grand Theft ORLANDO, Fla. -- After less than three hours of deliberating, a jury found state Sen. Gary Siplin, D-Orlando, guilty on Monday in his campaign misconduct trial. Siplin was convicted of third-degree felony grand theft and a misdemeanor for using state office staff members to work on his 2004 re-election campaign. The local lawmaker was charged with stealing thousands of tax dollars from the public. Siplin could serve up to five years in prison on the charges, and he may also be removed from office. Siplin has said for months that this was a politically motivated case with no merit and no proof, but the jury saw it differently. Siplin sat slumped in his chair and motionless as the verdicts were read. - (crime) - (Newsroom) |

Amber Alert: Kids Allegedly Taken By Sex Offender live-in boyfriend, Pedro Mata Rodriguez AVON, Colo. -- An Amber Alert has been issued for two Avon children -- a 15-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy -- who are believed to have been kidnapped by a convicted sexual offender. Jessica Marbella Garcia and Jose Lewis Cerrato were last seen Friday at 5 a.m. They were allegedly abducted by their mother's live-in boyfriend, Pedro Mata Rodriguez, Avon police said. Rodriguez, 31, is a sexual offender from Florida who was convicted of fondling a child, Avon police said. He has been known to carry a firearm in the past and has an extensive criminal history, police said. - (Newsroom) - (Invasion!) Authorities believe the suspect is taking the group to Mexico. Arrest made in slaying of White man by Black youth during robbery   Homicide detectives made an arrest Thursday in Wednesday's slaying of a North Buffalo man and the stabbing of his wife. Justin Kelly, 19, was taken into custody at his residenc and, after questioning, confessed to the crime. A knife was recovered after he was questioned. Kelly had left something at the scene on Bedford Avenue that provided a critical clue to his identity. He declined to elaborate. Kelly was charged with second-degree murder, felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery. "Apparently robbery was the motive," Gipson said. "It was random . . . as they were walking down the street." The commissioner said Kelly confronted Paul J. McCabe outside his home, demanding his cell phone. When McCabe refused, Gipson said, a struggle ensued, and McCabe's wife of 19 years, Christine G. LaBarre, came to his aid, only to be stabbed in the arm. UK: Evil Somali migrant Rapist, 21, jailed for ten years - then hopefully deported  A savage African migrant has been convicted of three counts of rape and jailed for ten years following a lengthy trial at Birmingham Crown Court. Dahir Ibrahim, 21, a Somalian national, who lived in Smethwick, raped street sex workers at knifepoint in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham. He targeted vulnerable women in their 20s, 30s and 40s in 2003 and 2005. He has to sign the sex offenders' register for life and the judge recommended him for deportation. Officers from Rose Road police station worked with health outreach project SAFE to reach women sex workers to identify victims and warn of the potential threat to their safety. FARGO, North Dakota (AP) -- A convicted sex offender accused of abducting and killing a college student went on trial Monday in North Dakota's first death penalty case in more than 100 years. 
Three men authorities said were found with about 1,000 untraceable cell phones were arraigned Saturday on terror-related charges, and were believed to have been targeting a Michigan bridge, a prosecutor said. "The targeted issue in this case was the Mackinac Bridge. That is what we have information on," Tuscola County prosecutor Mark Reene said. The bridge is 5 miles long and connects Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas. Police in Caro, Michigan, said the men were arrested early Friday and were being held on charges of "providing material support for terrorism and obtaining information of a vulnerable target for the purposes of terrorism."
