Black Man Arrested in Murder of White Grocery Store Owner The Sheriff's Department has made an arrest in the murder of well-known Gadsden store owner. Deputies say Tommy Taylor shot and killed Fred Hill on January 31st as he opened his Bluff Road grocery store. nvestigators say Taylor had previously worked for Hill and knew his hours and his movements well enough to plan the crime. Through their investigation they also learned Taylor owned a handgun and had disappeared shortly after the murder. That, coupled with forensic evidence and Taylor's own incriminating statements led to his arrest Wednesday morning in Lee County. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
3 Md. Prison Guards Fired in White Inmate Death Md. -- The state fired three guards Wednesday in connection with the strangulation of an inmate who had been seated on a prison bus near a murderer who had told a judge a day earlier that he would likely kill again. Philip E. Parker Jr. was killed by one or more inmates aboard a bus carrying 35 prisoners in handcuffs and leg irons. Prison officials have not named any suspects, but investigators have focused on Kevin G. Johns Jr., 22, a twice-convicted murderer. - (Brewski) |
Dark Sexual Predator Accused of Meeting Underage Girls Online, Raping Them - found hiding under bed A Kansas City black was accused Thursday of trolling the Internet, trying to lure young girls for sex. Prosecutors alleged Devan H. Smith, 28, had sex with five underage girls. One of them got pregnant and delivered a baby boy. He faced seven counts of statutory rape and one count of sexual misconduct but when Surae Chinn asked him if he raped the girls, he said, "I didn't do it." Authorities arrested him Thursday morning. Victims Recovering After Northrop Grumman Shooting PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- A disgruntled employee opened fire Monday at the Northrop Grumman Ships Systems shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., critically wounding two co-workers. A suspect is in custody. Police Lt. Paul Leonard identified the alleged shooter as Alexander Lett, 41, of Moss Point, a 20-year employee of the large complex that builds ships for the Navy and the Coast Guard. Lett was being held at the Pascagoula Municipal Jail on two counts of aggravated assault. Authorities identified the two wounded employees as Ben Gaffney and Bubba Eddins, both believed to hold management positions at the shipyard. - (Gman) |

Drane skips court, sentenced to 85 years for rape, murder Convicted murderer Ronnie Dontell Drane received the maximum 85-year sentence for the rape and strangulation of 25-year-old Tamarra Taylor. The judge sentenced Drane to 65 years in prison for murder and murder in the perpetration of a rape, and an additional 20 years for the rape charge. Taylor’s sister, X-Ann Martin, spoke on behalf of the family, which included six children. Their mother was killed when Taylor was 7 years old, the same age as Taylor’s own daughter when Drane killed her, Martin said. Prosecutors also presented cell phone records registered to Drane’s girlfriend, "exotic dancer" Tiffany Copeland who was found was found stuffed in a suitcase. |
Police Search for Rape Suspect Lafayette police need your help to put a suspected rapist behind bars. Corporal Mark Francis says 26-year-old Derome Breaux of Carencro is accused of raping a former girlfriend. The charges include forcible rape, violation of a protective order and aggravated burglary. |
Sports: Former USC football player sought in connection with Weds. credit union robbery Authorities in Richland County are searching for a former University of South Carolina football player accused of committing an armed robbery Wednesday morning and holding a teller against her will at a Two Notch Road branch of the South Carolina Credit Union . The Richland County Sheriff's Department is searching for Marco Terrell Hutchinson, 24, on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping in the robbery after witnesses picked him out of a photo lineup. - (Tyrone N.
