Father of 7 -Year-Old Charged in her Murder Police have charged a father with the murder of his seven-year old daughter. She was found stabbed to death inside a Catholic school. Her name was Jerica and police have now arrested her father, 27-year-old Christopher Rhodes. They are charging him with the second degree murder. At around 9:30 Thursday morning, a custodian found her bloody body inside the Sacred Heart of Jesus School. Police say she was stabbed to death in a vicious fit of rage. Rhodes is a former high school basketball star, and the son of the former Highland Falls police chief. He is currently on probation for a misdemeanor drug posession. - (Brewski) |
Former Church Members Say Pastor Threatened to Kill Them Pastor John Harris is accused of threatening to kill members of his own congregation. The pastor says it is a warning from God. Clarence Bender says his wife is living in fear after she and other members of the Straight Gate Holiness Church decided to leave the congregation. The Nashville church has been suspected in the past of cult-like activity. Pastor Harris wrote "I have set a mark upon thee. A mark for thy slaughter." and says he is just a messenger. L.A. train crash suspect Juan Manuel Alvarez charged with murder - 11 killed, two dozen critical
Juan Manuel Alvarez, who lived in a converted garage behind her sister’s home in suburban Compton, told the court her husband had damaged her family’s property and threatened to seek revenge on people he suspected of introducing her to another man. She said his drug use was triggering hallucinations. Man who threatened to blow up White House wanted his illegal migrant prospective son-in-law not deported Lowell Timmer is charged with parking a block away from the White House and threatening to blow it up, unless his son-in-law got out of jail. The man says he did it for his daughter. Timmers told a judge earlier this week that he did what he did to get Aleata Timmers’s fiancé out of jail. That man, "Manuel", faces deportation because the Guatemalan illegal immigrant missed a hearing. - (reader link) |

Sports: NFL star Jamal Lewis only gets four months in drug case ATLANTA - Ravens star Jamal Lewis hobbled into federal court on crutches Wednesday, apologized for a drug-related crime and received a mild, four-month prison term from a sympathetic judge Orinda Evans who said the case against him was weak. Lewis, 25, the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2003, was indicted last February and charged with helping arrange a cocaine deal in 2000 for the co-defendant, Angelo Jackson, a hometown Atlanta friend. 89-year-old Man Accused of Nazi Ties Loses Citizenship Prosecutors asked the judge to revoke the Lithuania native's citizenship on the grounds that he lied on his visa application about his activity during the war. Vladas Zajanckauskas, 89, denied that he was in Warsaw at the time and said his involvement with the Nazis was limited to working the bar at one of their camps in Poland. |

West Memphis city council member and pastor accused of sexual assault has appeared in court. Police had issued an arrest warrant for 60-year-old Herman Coleman, who had missed scheduled appointments with investigators. Coleman was freed on bond after his arrest yesterday. He had avoided police since last week. Coleman, who also owns a local insurance agency, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at her home January tenth. He appeared in Crittenden County Court with his wife, Glendora, and his attorney, Bill Lewellen. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Former Suffolk Mayor Facing Solicitation, Assault Charges Former Suffolk Mayor Johnnie Eugene Mizelle was indicted by a grand jury on one count of assault and battery and one count of solicitation for prostitution. Mizelle, 58, was arrested by Suffolk police at his law office. The charges stem from a 43-year old female who claims she was a client of Mizelle's. The woman claims she met with Mizelle twice; during those meetings, she alleges he assaulted her by groping her with his hands and suggested that she perform sexual favors in exchange for legal fees owed. Mizelle was elected as Suffolk's first black mayor in 1986, and served in that capacity for four year. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Donovan Despanie Arraigned for Rape of 92-Year-Old Woman A 19-year-old accused of raping an elderly woman in a nursing home has been arraigned on charges of aggravated rape. Donovan Despanie was employed at the Evangeline Oaks Guest House in October of last year when he allegedly raped a 92-year-old woman who resided in that facility. If convicted, Despanie will spend the rest of his life behind bars. - (forum) |

Reward Offered For Missing 5-Year-Old - Emily Rimel Disappeared Dec. 7 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There is another plea from a Franklin County family to help find a missing 5-year-old girl. Emily Rimel disappeared from her Madison Township apartment in the early morning hours of Dec. 7. Dispite a widespread search effort, she has not been seen or heard from since. Police arrested Lindsey Bruce, 23, and charged him with raping the girl. There is a $12,000 reward for information that leads to Emily's whereabouts.
