• Citing Danger, Postal Service Suspends Deliveries to Part of Shreveport
  The U.S. Postal Service Tuesday took the rare step of suspending mail delivery because of fear carriers could be putting their lives in danger. Residents in 28 homes along the Clanton Street in Shreveport must now travel to their post office to get their mail. The move came after a postal carrier reportedly had to duck behind a tree to avoid getting shot around 4:30pm Monday. "He heard gunfire and ducked down behind a tree and stayed there until it was over with," said Postal Service spokesman Lavelle Pepper. Hours after that incident, a 5-year-old girl watching television in her bedroom, was shot by a bullet that came through her window. Since Sunday, Shreveport police have responded to at least three calls of shots being fired along Clanton Street.   Three men entered guilty pleas to rape charges from an incident that occurred inside an Ellensburg motel room. The Prosecutor said Humberto Marmelejo-Ortiz, 20, pled guilty to attempted indecent liberties with forcible compulsion. Octavio Colazo Munguia, 21, and Jose Isabel Magana-Cruz, 19, entered pleas of guilty to third-degree rape and two counts of third-degree rape of a child. The incident took place Sept. 17, 2003, in an Ellensburg motel room when the men reportedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl who was too drunk to "consent to any sexual contact." - (NNN Northwest)

• Federal Judge Denies 'Hispanic' Injunction Vs. Tenn. Licenses for illegal aliens
  NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A federal judge on Tuesday denied a Hispanic advocacy group's attempt to stop Tennessee's new system of granting driver's licenses only to U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents. Under the system, people who pass the state's driving test but cannot prove U.S. citizenship get a purple card with a photo and a label that reads, "Certificate of Driving -- For Driving Purposes Only, Not Valid for Identification." The League of United Latin American Citizens filed suit in July, saying Tennessee's two-tiered system was discriminatory, and asked the judge to halt the program. But U.S. District Court Judge Todd J. Campbell said in his ruling that the group had not shown there would be "imminent irreparable harm if an injunction does not issue."

That certainly seems to be happening. Along with the decline of traditional families has come the decline in birth rates in Western nations. In Great Britain the fertility rate is only 1.6 children per woman; in many Balkan nations the birth rate has dropped to 1.2 children; fertility in Spain is the worst of any European nation at just over one child per woman.
