Probation Officer Charged With Sodomy, Sex Abuse  There
Could Be More Victims - An Oregon probation officer is accused of sexual abuse
and sodomy against a teenage boy under his supervision. A two-year investigation
led to the arrest of 48-year-old Michael Lee Boyles. According to court
papers, Boyles abused the victim over four years and offered him $1,500 to lie
to police. But the teen refused, saying the abuse by a man that he once trusted
had to stop. "He just never needs to work around children again" said
victim. |

Verdict Reached In Child Rape, Murder Case - Suspect Guilty On All Counts   PORTLAND
-- A jury has convicted Ladon Stephens in the rape
and murder of 14-year-old Melissa Bittler. The 35-year-old attacked
and killed Bittler in December 2001 on her way to school. Her strangled body was
found in a neighbor's back yard. Stephens faced 31 charges of aggravated murder,
rape, sodomy and kidnapping. He was also charged with a 2002 sexual assault
and three sexual assaults of teenage girls in 1997. -

Muslim
convert Soldier arrested for allegedly trying to provide info to al-Qaeda  Spc.
Ryan G. Anderson was being held at Fort Lewis "pending criminal charges
of aiding the enemy by wrongfully attempting to communicate and give intelligence
to the al-Qaida terrorist network." Anderson, 26, will remain at the base
near Tacoma. Anderson converted to Islam five years ago, and studied military
history with an emphasis on the Middle East while attending Washington State University.

Sentenced for Aiding Taliban  A
Seattle-raised Muslim convert who aided the Taliban was sentenced to two years
in prison Friday, getting a break for helping authorities with other investigations
in the war on terrorism. James Ujaama, 38, pleaded guilty last year, admitting
he delivered computer equipment and a recruit to Taliban officials in Afghanistan.
With time already served behind bars, he could be free this summer.

Woman Robbed, Raped: Tips, DNA Lead To Arrest  Victim
Was Dragged Into Car, Assaulted - Tips and DNA evidence led to the arrest
of a rape suspect. A woman in her 20s was raped and robbed at gunpoint in January.
The victim was on the sidewalk about 7:30 a.m. when she was confronted by a man
with a gun. He allegedly assaulted her, took her to his car and then robbed and
raped her. Howard Hill Jr., 33, was arrested Tuesday. Investigators received
tips from citizens and police after releasing a composite sketch.

Illegal Alien Mexican Cat Burglar Fondles Women As They Sleep Illegal Immigrant Sentenced, Will Be Deported - ALBANY, Ore. -- A man who broke into five Albany homes and fondled women as they lay in bed has been sentenced to nearly 27 years in prison. Fabian Gomez-Montalvo pleaded guilty to the intrusions. The 20-year-old is from Oaxaca, Mexico. He came to the United States illegally and found work driving a forklift. Begins In Rape, Murder Of 14-Year-Old Girl - Teen's Body Found In Neighbor's
Yard PORTLAND
-- The trial is under way in the rape and murder of a 14-year-old Portland girl
whose strangled body was found in a neighbor's back yard.
Melissa Bittler was attacked
as she walked to school. LaDon Stephens, a convicted sex offender, is charged
with 31 counts of aggravated murder, rape, sodomy and kidnapping. Stephens was
on parole for a previous conviction when he allegedly raped three girls in 1997
and then raped and killed Bittler in 2001. |

Coach Sentenced For Homosexual Molestation of 14-year-old Boy VANCOUVER,
Wash. -- A former Vancouver teacher and coach will spend four years in prison
for child molestation. Andrew Koehler was arrested in April after a 14-year-old
claimed that the teacher fondled him during a sleepover. Koehler pleaded no contest
to two counts of molestation. |

Dies After Mother Is Stabbed During Robbery of Mexican convenience store State Law: Fetus Not Considered Homicide Victim  OREGON CITY, Ore. -- A pregnant woman stabbed while working at an Oregon City convenience store has lost her baby. The young woman was five months pregnant when she was robbed and stabbed in the stomach on Dec. 18. Oregon City police say she went into premature labor on Wednesday and the fetus died shortly after. Alfredo Cortes-Villa, 20, was charged with attempted murder in the attack. |

Portland man admits that he raped a 15-year-old girl and tried to sexually
abuse a 13-year-old girl. He met them while working at a church. Derrick Mayberry, who surrounded himself with children, came into the courtroom wearing handcuffs and a smile, but things quickly got serious. Under a plea bargain, the judge sentenced Mayberry to three years in prison. He pleaded guilty to the statutory rape of a 15-year-old girl, and he admitted he repeatedly tried to touch the breasts of a 13-year-old girl. |

Skinhead Group Ringleader Gets Sentenced The ringleader of a skinhead gang was sentenced to nearly three years in prison for burning crosses at a Jewish cemetery and spray-painting racist graffiti on a Korean church. Brian Raymond Hauth, 27, who lives in Montana, pleaded guilty last summer to civil rights and conspiracy charges. According to the FBI, Hauth was the "commander" of a teen hate group called the Oregon State Boot Boys. Prosecutors said he and other boys took part in the vandalism in 2000 and 2001. - (Northwest) |

— A private basketball coach has been accused of having sex with a 15-year-old
girl and paying for her abortion while she was a player under his supervision.
Sara Burt, who now is
24 and who played basketball at Chemeketa Community College, claims Howard
Avery of the private Triple
Threat basketball program began a yearlong sexual relationship with her,
ending with the abortion. Black coach's relationships with young white girl players questioned For years, Avery's relationships with his players have raised concerns in high school basketball circles. Yet recently, others also agreed to allow The Oregonian to publish details of troubling experiences with Avery. Among them is another former player, Liz Paulson, who says Avery kissed her when she was 17 and had sex with her when she was 19 despite what she described as her reluctance. A father says that in 1990 he confronted Avery about allegations that he had made sexual advances toward Oregon City players. And several parents said that two years ago a parent who helps run Triple Threat called a meeting to acknowledge that Avery had a relationship with a young player, but "her parents did not object to it". Avery had a criminal record -- on his way to a third felony conviction as an adult for being caught in stolen cars and driving with a revoked license -- and Smith had heard rumors about Avery's transgressions. In fall 1990, another of John McShane's daughters came home crying,  McShane
said. She was upset with him for recommending Avery to work with the team. His
daughter, who was not an Oregon City High player but had friends on the team,
dropped a bombshell: She told him Avery was making sexual advances toward players,
McShane said. McShane said he went to Avery's house and told him he had heard
that Avery was "messing with some of these girls." At first Avery refused
to talk to him, McShane said. When McShane pressed him, he says Avery told him, "Well, you don't understand my culture." "I was stunned," McShane said. Migrant Who Raped, Strangled Nun Gets Life  KLAMATH
FALLS, Ore. -- An "itinerant laborer" who pleaded guilty to raping two
nuns and strangling one with her rosary beads has been sentenced to life in prison
without parole. Maximiliano
Silerio Esparza, 33, was sentenced Tuesday for the murder of Sister
Helen
Lynn Chaska, 53. He got another 10 years for the attempted murder
of the surviving nun, and 15 years for raping the women. In return for his guilty
plea, Esparza avoided a possible death sentence. |

Ore. -- He's already charged with arranging meetings with boys online for sex.
CLACKAMAS,
Ore. -- A 13-year-old says a stranger grabbed her and touched her breasts during
a basketball game at Clackamas High School Tuesday night. She says she was in
the hallway on the way to the bathroom when a man grabbed her and touched her
breasts. She described him as an Asian male in his 20s, between 5-foot-5
and 5-foot-9 with dark hair that was either wet or matted down. She thought he
had acne on his face and smelled of urine.
Clyde
Lehrman, 61, was indicted on sodomy charges three years ago in Kentucky but
jumped bail and ended up in Sandy, where he managed a boarding house. People living
at the Countryside Boarding House say it seemed a little generous when the manager
spent $50 on shoes for a 10-year-old boy.
But few gave it a second thought. "It pretty much disgusts me." said
one woman.
The
suit, filed in Spokane, accuses O'Donnell of sexually abusing altar boys, students,
Boy Scouts and others while working as a priest at various parishes in Spokane
and Whitman counties. The suit also accuses O'Donnell of procuring boys to
be sexually abused by former scoutmaster George Robey Jr. when both men worked
with the Boy Scouts in the 1970s. 
White
women were far more likely than white men to tie the knot with a person of another
race.
