Serial Rapist in Ohio Pleads Guilty
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man accused of raping 37 women pleaded guilty Tuesday during jury selection for his trial.
Ref: Accused Linden Rapist Charged With 71 RapesRobert N. Patton, 42, entered the pleas to 135 charges of rape, kidnapping, burglary and robbery. He has confessed to media and police that he raped several dozen women in Columbus since 1987. Sentencing was scheduled Wednesday; the prosecutor said he would recommend a 50-year sentence. - (forum) |
Prosecutors Emphasize Bloody 1961 Crime LAKE CHARLES, La. -- A funeral home worker sent to collect the bloodied body of a bank teller killed in a 1961 robbery testified against the prison inmate convicted three times in her death. Wilbert Rideau, 62, has had three previous convictions overturned and is hoping this latest trial will result in his freedom. His lawyers do not deny he killed Julia Ferguson, but are hoping for an acquittal or a manslaughter verdict that would allow him to be released. "This lady was lying on the road. Her throat was cut, her eyes were open, blood was running down," said Holston, 74. "I cuddled her head when I picked her up because I didn't want to lose her head." - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Police captain grinch target of theft investigation A Shreveport police captain is the target of an investigation into whether she stole from a Christmas charity where police help hundreds of needy children. Eunice Wilkerson has been placed on paid leave while detectives conduct a criminal investigation. Detectives are looking into whether Wilkerson, a 24-year veteran of the Police Department, submitted fake names for children wanting gifts from Operation Santa Claus, then kept toys donated by the community. - (Rasp) |
Prosecutor: Woman Charged In Fatal Apartment Fire A woman who police say was trying to scare another woman who she said owed her money for drugs was charged with murder in connection with a fire that killed two people and injured several others. Louretha Ann Morgan, 46, is charged with two counts of felony murder-arson in
the deaths of Robin Abraham, 19, and 3-year-old Derrick Wilbourn Jr. Both died
in the fire Sunday morning. Police said Abraham was not the woman Morgan was
trying to scare.
Morgan, who also is charged with eight counts of attempted murder and a count of arson of a dwelling, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of felony murder-arson. - (Brewski, Rasp) |

Police arrest cross-dressing bank robber 'Andrea'  An armed robber who was dressed as a woman jumped a counter at Sovereign Bank yesterday, assaulted a teller and got away briefly with "a lot of money," police said. Andrea Guthrie, 22, of Bridgeport, Conn., was caught by Littleton and state police about a half-hour after the 10:40 a.m. robbery of the bank next to Stadium Plaza on the Tewksbury line. Police sources said they discovered Guthrie was even wearing women's

| 12-Year-Old Sodomite charged with raping and murdering a 3-year-old boy SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- A 12-year-old boy has been charged with murdering and raping a male preschooler, a prosecutor said 3-year-old Jeremy Rosario Milan died two days after being hospitalized with bruises and a head injury. An autopsy found the younger boy died from blunt-force trauma to the brain. Jeremy had been raped at least twice and beaten several times. Earlier, the 12-year-old was charged with assaulting the little boy and pleaded innocent in juvenile court. |
Catholic priest pleaded guilty Tuesday to homosexually assaulting two teenage boys  BOSTON -- A Jesuit priest who taught and coached at a high school pleaded guilty Tuesday to molesting two teenage boys during wrestling drills. The Rev. James Talbot sexually assaulted the two students in the late 1970s, when he was teaching history and coaching soccer and hockey at Boston College High School, an all-male parochial school.
He pleaded guilty to one count each of rape and assault with intent to rape, and three counts of assault and battery. Talbot encouraged them to take most of their clothes off, then grabbed their genitals while they were wrestling with him. Talbot also orally raped one of the boys and tried to orally rape the other. |

Medical student Nader Ali found competent for trial in baseball bat slaying of co-ed   PHILADELPHIA -- A judge ruled Tuesday that a medical student accused of beating a female classmate to death with a baseball bat is mentally competent to stand trial. Defense lawyers had asked for the mental-health evaluation, maintaining that Nader Ali, 26, is psychotic, schizophrenic and bipolar. Ali is accused of killing 25-year-old Lea Sullivan, a classmate at Jefferson Medical College, on Nov. 7 as she left a supermarket on a trendy South Philadelphia street. Ali had been asked to leave the school last spring, after he began exhibiting strange behavior. Sullivan, an outgoing, athletic Harvard graduate from Philadelphia's Main Line, died of massive head injuries a day after the attack. - (forum) |
