Serial rape suspect indicted in Savannah  A grand jury charged a man suspected of a series of rapes in Georgia and South Carolina with five assaults in Chatham County. Ron O'Neil Young of Savannah was indicted on 31 counts, including rape, kidnapping, and aggravated sexual battery. The 23-year-old Young, who was arrested in Georgia after a July 6th attack on a woman in Walterboro, South Carolina, also was charged with armed robbery, hijacking of a motor vehicle, aggravated sodomy, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Spanish-speaking Neighbor Charged With Killing 16-year-old Girl-Next-Door - dismembering body   MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- As relatives grew frantic searching for a 16-year-old girl who had been missing for hours, her neighbors were having a party. The sound of laughter and singing, including the strains of "Happy Birthday" in Spanish, wafted from the house next door as family members searched for Jennifer Parks. What they didn't know was that the girl was already dead, her dismembered body stuffed into a steamer trunk and stashed in the back of a neighbor's car just a few feet away. The girl's 18-year-old next-door neighbor Jonathan A. Zarate pleaded innocent to her murder. Zarate invited the 16-year-old to his home to watch television but became angry, punching, beating and then stabbing her in the basement about 2 a.m. Zarate used a knife to cut the legs off the body before putting the dismembered corpse in the steamer trunk. - (aryan_barbarian) |

Tyreese Lamar Reed Arrested in Series of Koreatown Rapes LOS ANGELES — The suspected "Koreatown Rapist," who attacked women in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Glendale, was being held today on $5 million bail after being linked to some of the assaults through DNA. Tyreese Lamar Reed, an electronics technician who told police he was a parole agent, was arrested at his Koreatown home. Reed was allegedly linked to six of the 13 victims by DNA evidence. But county prosecutors charged Reed with 18 counts involving seven alleged victims. |
Abortion clinic janitor accused of sexually assaulting aspiring models - Ref: Teen Raped at Abortion Clinic  The owner of a Bridgeport modeling agency has pleaded innocent to sexual assault charges. Forty-two-year-old Michael Britt was in Bridgeport Superior Court today on charges he sexually assaulted three teenagers who had signed on for his modeling agency. Police say the three girls, ages 18, 17 and 14, complained in April they had been sexually assaulted by Britt, who recruited them with the promise of modeling jobs. Michael Britt sexually abused the teens, telling one that having sex would give her a model's walk and raping another under the guise of giving her an abortion. |
Stepfather Charged With First-degree Murder In Precious Doe Case  KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Muskogee man whose stepdaughter's decapitated body was found in Kansas City, Missouri, and known only as "Precious Doe" was indicted today by a grand jury for first-degree murder. Prosecutors say the indictment against Harrell Johnson upgrades the charge from a second-degree murder count originally filed against him. Prosecutor Mike Sanders says he'll decide soon whether to seek the death penalty. Johnson and his wife, Michelle, were both charged with second-degree murder. |
Convicted murderer gets life sentence - too 'retarded' for death penalty Anthony "Papa" Hipps is mentally incompetent to be executed for the 1995 stabbing death of his teen-age girlfriend, a Superior Court Judge ruled on Monday. That means Hipps will serve a sentence of life in prison for the murder. During the same hearing in Superior Court Monday, Hipps, 56, agreed to his status as a violent habitual felon and was sentenced to a second term of life. Victim's Husband Testifies In Capital Murder Trial  HOUSTON -- The widower of a slain Pearland woman testified Monday in the trial of his wife's accused killer. Lamar Baskin Jr., 44, was charged with capital murder in the shooting and robbery of Laura Powell Higgins, 28. The interior designer was killed on Dec. 20, 2002, when she made a quick stop at a southeast Houston warehouse that was leased by her employer, Perry Homes. Higgins' body was found near the warehouse and authorities said her purse and keys were missing. Higgins' family sat in the courtroom during the first day of testimony. They want Baskin to receive the maximum sentence -- death. Authorities believe Baskin is responsible for murdering, robbing and raping at least eight other people, but he has not been charged with those crimes. Police Arrest Naked African-american in Tree - Charge Him With Attempted Rape Raleigh police interrupted a violent assault Monday night after they heard a woman screaming. Authorities arrested 50-year-old Andrew Freeman and charged him with attempted rape, kidnapping and felony strangulation. Officers found Freeman hiding in a tree with no clothes just blocks from where they say he tried to attack a woman on South Wilmington Street. Freeman is a registered sex offender. - (Tyrone N. Florida Highway Patrol Captain Turns Himself In For Arrest ORLANDO, Fla. -- A top-ranking commander with the Florida Highway Patrol has been arrested. FHP is being very tight-lipped about the circumstances that led up to Captain Sterling King's arrest, but it is the talk of the troopers in the Orlando district with word that one of their highest ranking captains is facing five years in prison. He is charged with a third-degree felony involving bribery and misuse of public office. FHP confirms it has already terminated King for conduct unbecoming a trooper. - (Gman) |

Officials seek Brown sex offender A 41-year old convicted sex offender who failed to register his address with police is being sought by authorities. Dennis Brown is considered a high-risk, or Tier 3, offender on the New Jersey Sex Offender Internet Registry. He served six years in prison for a first-degree aggravated sexual-assault conviction. Brown raped a girl whom he threatened with a weapon after meeting her through the acquaintance of a family member. He has also used the aliases Harold Dennis and Bashia Husain. - (Svejk) |
Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Girlfriend, Ex-Girlfriend  A Tyler man marries one of the women he's accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting, according to the Smith County DA's office. Jermaine Lamar Benson, 20, pleaded guilty today to one of four counts of aggravated sexual assault. The judge gave him a 15-year sentence, but he chose a jury trial instead. Benson is also accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Suspect in Elderly Rape in Custody
The man police say brutally beat and raped an 89-year-old woman is in police custody. Police say Sidney Howell turned himself in Sunday. Howell told police he was afraid and wanted to surrender to face charges. Howell allegedly entered the Gwinnett County woman's home, beat her, sexually assaulted her and stole her car in June. Howell faces several charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and burglary. - (White Boy) |
Man Accused Of Repeatedly Assaulting Girl, 12 New Orleans police have issued an arrest warrant for a man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. Arrow Carter, 27, faces aggravated rape. He is accused of assaulting the girl several times from June 2003 until December 2004 in the 3800 block of Gibson Street. Local Killer Avoids Death Penalty With Deal A Louisville man convicted of murdering a Louisville teen agreed to a sentencing deal Friday. Javon Hearn, 25, faced the possibility of a death sentence in the case, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Andy Alcock reported. But the defendant took that option out of the hands of his jury by accepting a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 25 years. Hearn was convicted Thursday of killing David Kiphart Jr. in 2002. After he shot Kiphart three years ago, Hearn stole the victim's car and then dumped Kiphart's body at Green Meadows Cemetery. - (White Boy) |
Lafayette woman suspected of shooting wo other women with a single shot has surrendered  Edna Hamilton was arrested yesterday and booked with two counts of attempted second-degree murder.Lafayette police Corporal Mark Francis says the victims in the shooting, one 39 and the other 46, were taken to a hospital and are in critical condition. Investigators think Hamilton argued with at least one of the women before the shooting, just before midnight Sunday at Duke's Lounge.- (Jesse Gibson) |

The prosecution made closing arguments Monday in Atlanta in the trial of two men accused of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in the shooting death of DeKalb County Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown in December 2000. Melvin Walker and David Ramsey are accused of conspiring with former DeKalb County Sheriff 
A man accused of a January rape is back in Lafayette to face rape charges. Terrence Landry was arrested in Houston earlier this year for the brutal rape of his ex-girlfriend. Landry escaped from Houston police custody, but was later re-arrested. He was extradited back to Lafayette over the weekend. Bond was set on one of Landry's charges.
