Jury Selection Begins Monday In Trial Of Man Charged With 89-Year-Old's Murder  DURHAM, N.C. -- Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of a man accused of the murder of a Durham grandmother. Lois Cannady, 89, was shot to death in her home as she called 911 to report a break-in on June 6, 2002. Sheriff's deputies arrested and charged five males for her death. Gregory Lee Jr., who was 18 years old at the time of Cannady's death, is the fourth of five suspects to be tried. Two other men pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and another was found guilty of first-degree murder. Authorities said Lee lived across the street from Cannady. - (Tyrone N. Temple of Faith Bishop Arrested for Lewd Act with a Seven-year-old Girl Richland County deputies have arrested a local bishop, charging him with crimes against a minor. Sixty-one year-old Theodore Myers is charged with one count of lewd act upon a child and one count of indecent exposure. Myers is the bishop of the Temple of Faith Bible Way Church. Investigators believe that on two separate occasions Myers enticed a seven- year–old girl up to his office located in the church. On one occasion Myers exposed himself to her. Norfolk Police Arrest Four Suspects, Search for One More, in Deadly Drive-By Shooting  Norfolk police announced they had made four arrests, and identified one additional suspect, in connection with a drive-by shooting that left one man dead and three others - including two children - injured. Anthony Ellis, was arrested and three more suspects were arrested. James Nelson Wilson, 21, of the 400 block of West 27th Street, Timothy Cornelius Wilson, 18, at the same address and Jeana Lynn Lockett, 23, at the same address. African migrant woman charged with mutilating 3-year-old stepson's genitals - Some sort of African muti ritual?  "The child's scrotum had been cut open and the testicles had been pulled out." Deputies arrested 24-year-old Miama Kromah, charging her with unlawful conduct toward a child. According to the arrest warrant against her, deputies say Kromah injured the child with a sharp object. This is a horrific act, this injury to the child. This child has been mutilated." Miama Kromah is not a U.S. citizen. She and her husband, the child's father, are both from Liberia. Convicted Drug Trafficker says jury too full of whites  Leon Carmichael, a Montgomery "businessman", convicted of drug dealing claims he was denied a fair trial because the jury pool was overwhelmingly white. On June 17, Carmichael and co-defendant Freddie Williams were found guilty of trafficking large amounts of marijuana, and Carmichael also was found guilty of money laundering.A jury of three blacks and nine whites handed down the verdict on both men, who are black. - (Tyrone N. Sports: Former USC Player Wants Charges Dismissed   COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An attorney for former USC standout Moe Thompson filed a motion Friday asking that burglary charges be dropped because the defensive lineman was treated differently by the school because he was black. The motion by attorney Hemphill Pride says Thompson took televisions from a dormitory room as part of a prank after a night at a party. Accused cop killer held * 2 more charged in officer's slaying * Hundreds expected to bid farewell to slain officer  Christopher Bridges, is accused of shooting officer Timothy Webster with the officer's .45-caliber Glock service weapon when the two apparently scuffled after Bridges ran following a traffic stop on the city's south end near South Jackson Street and Kendall Lane. Police Chief Richard Anderson said officers Greg Smith, Brian Runnells and Webster had stopped the car in which Steve Bogan was riding with Christopher Bridges and Antwon Brown. - (Tyrone N. Black attempted to kidnap two little girls The St. Petersburg Police Department has released a composite sketch of a man they say may have tried to abduct two girls at their bus stop. It happened at 23rd Avenue and Seventh Street South Thursday morning as the girls say they were waiting for the bus. Police say just before 7 a.m., the 6- and 10-year-old were approached by a stranger. They say the man started having a conversation with them when he reached out and tried to grab the 6-year-old girl. The two girls ran to a nearby home and called police.- (Tyrone N. One Dead, One Injured In Early-Morning Shooting Near Melrose  MELROSE, Fla. -- A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a shooting in western Putnam County. Sheriff's deputies responded to a travel-trailer after 6 a.m. Inside they found the body of Willie Durden and his companion, Janice Kalogiros, shot. She was airlifted to Shands-Gainesville Medical Center, where she was listed in critical but stable condition. Feds Moving Against Ex-City Attorney Accused Of Rape NEW ORLEANS -- Federal authorities are moving to indict a former New Orleans prosecutor on charges of sexually assaulting several women in his capacity as a city official. The Defense attorney said Henry A. Dillon III has received has received a "target letter" from the U.S. attorney's office warning of impending grand jury indictments accusing him of misusing his position as assistant city attorney. Dillon was fired from his city job Dec. 1, 2004, after being booked on state charges of forcible rape and malfeasance. Police accuse him of luring a 20-year-old woman who was facing lewd conduct and drug charges in municipal court to his private law office under the guise of helping her out of her legal difficulties. - (Tyrone N. Slain Pine Lake Officer Mourned after being assassinated point-blank by convict on release  Authorities identified the man accused of killing a Pine Lake police officer and then turning the gun on himself during a routine traffic stop outside a Pine Lake post office. Cedric O'Neal Gordon, 31, was the driver of the blue Chevrolet that was pulled over by Pine Lake Officer Francis Ortega and his partner. Gordon, who had been involved in a police standoff before, had a previous criminal history and was wanted for violating his supervised release from prison.. Ortega's family and colleagues were mourning the loss of the public servant, who was fatally shot at point-blank range during a traffic stop in which the gunman apparently committed suicide while hiding from other officers inside a nearby post office. - (Tyrone N. Durham Man Charged With Sex Offenses Against Gir Child  Durham police arrested a man Friday for committing several sexual offenses against a child that may have been going on for several years. Police charged 53-year-old Luther Holman with first-degree sex offense, first-degree rape of a child, crime against nature and taking indecent liberties with a child. Investigators said the victim was not related to Holman, and they believe the offenses went on for several years. Holman is being held in the Durham County Jail under $520,000 bond. - (Tyrone N. Secret Service Looks for Suspect Passing Counterfeit Bills The U.S. Secret Service and the Virginia Beach Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man suspected of passing counterfeit $20 bills at local convenience stores. Officials believe 30-year old Melvin McIntosh has been passing the fake bills for the past few years. McIntosh is wanted on federal warrants for possession of counterfeit currency, conspiracy to pass counterfeit currency and dealing of counterfeit currency. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
School Board member Charles Love Set To Enter Guilty Pleas In Tennessee Waltz Case Hamilton County School Board member Charles Love is set to enter guilty pleas in the "Tennessee Waltz FBI sting". Lee Davis, one of his attorneys, said depending upon the Federal Court in Memphis, Love could enter the guilty pleas as early as next Thursday. In papers mailed to attorneys in the case and filed in Federal Court in Memphis, Love says he will plead guilty on charges of conspiracy to bribe Sen. Ward Crutchfield of Chattanooga and Rep. Registered sex offender charged with sexual assault and robbery of an 82-year-old Claiborne County woman Authorities say 44-year-old Othnie Claiborne, of Pattison, was charged with sexual assault, breaking and entering and robbery after attacking the woman in her home early Saturday morning. Claiborne had served time in prison after a 1990 conviction on rape and assault charges in Jefferson County. Williamsburg Police Charge Pair from Baltimore After 14-year Old Claims She Was Raped on Table at Plantation  Police in Williamsburg have arrested two men after a 14-year old girl alleged she was raped last week while visiting the area with her parents. Investigators say 18-year old Shawn J. Harding is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and carnal knowledge of a child. Police say Harding and another man, 18 year old Kodie-Layne Freburger, were playing cards on a picnic table at Williamsburg Plantation. The victim and her step-sister approached the pair. Eventually, the step-sister left. The next morning, officials say the victim was found semi-conscious at the table. Police Look for Motive in Gruesome Murder  A man walking down the street makes a startling discovery inside a trash bag, launching a murder mystery. Police say James Thurmond, III has confessed to the crime, and he's now behind bars. Witnesses say it was a gruesome site, the body of Terri Graham thrown out like a piece of trash. "All I did was look at the head. When I see the head, that's as far as I went,” said the person who discovered the body. Police arrested James Thurmond, III charging him with Graham's murder. Under-18 ruling spares killer of Lowndes clerk Ronald Chris Foster was within 48 hours of being executed in January 2003, but today he is officially off death row, based on a state Supreme Court ruling. The high court said Foster should spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in March that it's unconstitutional to execute those who killed when they were under the age of 18. Foster was 17 when he was charged with the June 10, 1989, killing of white convenience store clerk George Shelton during a robbery in Lowndes County. Foster was sentenced to death in 1991. Third Suspect in Pitt Stop Robberry Arrested A third suspect in a recent armed robbery is now in custody. Joshua Nathaniel James, 21, of Columbia is a suspect in the 12th Stree Pitt Stop Convenience Store robbery on July 11th. James was picked up by West Columbia Police Department on a parole violation. He was later served several warrants, including armed robbery, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
A murder plot targeting a Bay area deputy has been foiled  The sheriff's office said it arrested Kevin Snow, 18, on 12 felony burglary charges in February. Then he started making threats against the arresting officer, Deputy Heather Mundell, so that she couldn't testify against him. "And he asked her if she was afraid and she indicated that no, she wasn't afraid," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "And he said, 'Well you should be.' " The sheriff's office said Snow offered a fellow Polk County inmate $5,000 to kill Mundell in May, but the inmate told authorities. Sumter Man Sentenced to Life for Death of Teenage Girl  A Sumter County man has been sentenced to life in prison in his third trial in the stabbing death of a teenage girl. The jury deliberated about two hours before convicting Latorey Green in the death of 17-year-old Mechelle Beard. Her body was found in February 2000 wrapped in a sheet in a ditch. Green's two earlier trials ended with hung juries. Prosecutors say Beard's killer left bloody shoe prints in the home. Convicted murderer gets life sentence - too 'retarded' for death penalty Anthony "Papa" Hipps is mentally incompetent to be executed for the 1995 stabbing death of his teen-age girlfriend, a Superior Court Judge ruled on Monday. That means Hipps will serve a sentence of life in prison for the murder. During the same hearing in Superior Court Monday, Hipps, 56, agreed to his status as a violent habitual felon and was sentenced to a second term of life. Authorities arrested 50-year-old Andrew Freeman and charged him with attempted rape, kidnapping and felony strangulation. of Character month. Five or six years ago the newsmedia saturated us with negritude 24/7 during February. The American people aren't as dumb as they look; we can only take so much celebrating the inventions of the biscuit cutter, the door knob, the curtain rod, the door stop and the super soaker water gun. Many of these claims are seen for what they are and other negro claims of invention have been definitively debunked. It became buffoonish after a while and I believe that the newsmedia recognized that. As negroes grasp at straws to find any boost for their fragile self esteem, we simply look to modern Africa or our local newspapers to see the negro in it's natural state: murderous, self absorbed, vicious, incompetent, and always whining that white people don't like them. Well tell me this, what is there to like? Sure, there may exist certain individuals of color who are decent folk, but who has the time and energy to go through city busloads of negroes until you find one like that?
