A reputed Afghan druglord accused of forming an "unholy alliance" with Taliban leaders was arrested in New York City over the weekend, federal authorities said yesterday. Bashir Noorzai, 44, was named last June as one of the most-wanted drug kingpins in the world by President Bush. A federal indictment says Noorzai controlled opium fields in Afghanistan and used laboratories there and in Pakistan to process the opium into heroin. Two Chinese Get Prison in Chinese Immigrant Smuggling
LOS ANGELES -- Two men who smuggled themselves and 17 other Chinese immigrants into the United States by hiding in a shipping container for 25 days were each sentenced Monday to five years in prison. Jian Rong Tan, 36, and Wen Hsue Chang, 41, were convicted last May on federal charges including bringing illegal immigrants into the U.S. for financial gain and harboring illegal immigrants.

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Frustrated by illegal immigrant criminals who slip their grasp, a growing number of state and county police agencies nationwide are moving to join a federal program that enlists local officers to enforce immigration laws. Report: "Migrant" Moussaoui (a French citizen) plans to plead guilty to 9/11 charges Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person in the United States charged in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks, is offering for a second time to plead guilty and a federal judge is evaluating whether to accept the plea, a legal source said Tuesday. The government accused Moussaoui of participating in an al-Qaeda conspiracy to commit terrorism that included the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. Moussaoui, a French citizen, tried to plead guilty in 2002 but took back the plea a week later.

Migrant from Somalia - Mustafa Mohamed used a knife to slash several elderly people at retirement home A judge denied bail today for a housekeeping worker accused of knifing at least six people at an Alexandria retirement home, including several residents in their 90s.Thirty-year-old Mustafa Mohamed is charged with two counts of malicious wounding in yesterday's attack at Goodwin House. Mohamed worked at the retirement center on the housekeeping staff. Sengel said in court the attack apparently stemmed from a dispute between Mohamed and his supervisor. Mustafa Mohamed, a 30-year-old immigrant from Somalia, faces the possibility of additional charges in the case. Mohamed was born in Somalia, but that she did not know his immigration status or how long he has lived in the United States.
