Fight over Confederate Flag decal could be investigated as (black-on-White) hate crime, police say
black on White attackA fight outside a Salt Lake City hotel early Sunday morning could possibly be investigated as a hate crime, authorities said Monday. Cell phone video captured a black man throw a punch at a Caucasian man who knocked him out. The fight was over an argument about a Confederate Flag decal on a truck parked at the Red Lion Hotel. The truck belonged to Kelly Leeper’s friend. Leeper was in town for the Garth Brooks concert. On Sunday, he said looked out the window of his room at the Red Lion and saw a group of black men near his friend’s truck. In the back of the truck, Leeper said there was $50,000 worth of welding equipment. There was also a Confederate Flag decal on the side. Leeper went to the parking lot with his friend and confronted the group. That’s when the fight turned violent. In one fast and powerful punch, Leeper’s friend was knocked out. A scuffle ensued and Leeper was taken down by a group of six men. "I'll be damned if I ever come to Salt Lake again without bringing my gun," Leeper said. - (Black-on-white)

Mary BratcherErnest Lee JohnsonCOLUMBIA — The night she found out her mom had been murdered, Carley Schaffer sat outside her house in a Philadelphia ice storm and smoked a cigarette.     Investigation: Sexting Possibly Linked To Deadly Caltrans Crash
Dino MorrisCheryl DurbinRogelio TorresLOS ANGELES - a Caltrans employee who was involved in a deadly crash is back behind the wheel. But two years ago, the employee was involved in a fatal crash that occurred just after he received a sexually suggestive text from his girlfriend. Despite efforts to find out what the text said Caltrans tried to stop him from reporting it, and driver Dino Morris didn’t want to talk about it. The four-vehicle collision in October 2013 involving a Caltrans sweeper driven by Morris caused a chain reaction accident on the 710 Freeway, killing Rogelio Torres after his car was crushed by the 20,000-pound sweeper as it traveled more than 40 mph. Fullerton resident Cheryl Durbin flipped over in the next car, her Toyota Camry ending up upside-down. “It was the strongest impact I’ve ever felt in a car,” she said. “It was unstoppable.” Durbin ultimately had to be cut out of her vehicle with the Jaws of Life. Durbin and the Torres family have sued Caltrans. Their cases are pending. CHP investigators say Morris never braked before impact. Attorneys claim text messages may have distracted him. The string of texts start with Morris’ girlfriend saying, “We will be having sex all day” and follows with “sex, sex, sex.” Morris was eventually fired from his job at Caltrans Long Beach but only after the DMV suspended his license for six months because of the accident. But when the suspension was up, Morris was back on the streets. Durbin is walking and had to have a spinal fusion nine months ago. She still feels the effects of the crash and finds it hard to believe Morris got off scot-free. - (Black-on-white)

(Black) Kenosha man accused in armed abduction attempts, judge compares him to “Boogeyman”
Heidi BeltoyaLeroy JohnsonKENOSHA -- A $200,000 cash bond has been set for a 62-year-old Kenosha man charged in connection with armed abduction attempts that allegedly took place last week. Leroy Johnson appeared in a Kenosha County courtroom where a judge compared him to the "Boogeyman."
One of the victims in this case was able to help police catch their suspect. The victim, a 52-year-old Kenosha woman, indicated a black, four-door vehicle pulled up next to her as she walked westbound on 50th St. -- and the suspect asked her for directions. As the victim approached the vehicle, officials say the operator pointed a pellet gun at the woman and told her to get into the car. The victim ran away from the car and the suspect fled west on 50th St. "I kept thinking 'this is not really happening. It was so surreal," Heidi Beltoya said. "This guy had pulled up and said, 'can you help me with this address?' I looked down at the paper and there was nothing on the paper and I looked up at him and he goes `get in the car` and I looked down at his hand and he had a gun." Beltoya says her instincts kicked in, and she ran to Fonte Foods nearby.
Around 7:30 p.m. on that same day, officers responded to the neighborhood near 44th St. and Kennedy Dr. Officials say this case involved a 14-year old Kenosha girl who was walking west on 44th St. The suspect was outside of his car when the victim walked past. Police say the suspect approached her, asked for directions, then grabbed her by the shirt collar and tried to force her at gunpoint into his vehicle. The victim pushed the gun away, kicked the suspect, and then ran westbound screaming for help. This is, to many of the female population, a Boogeyman scenario," the judge said. - (Black-on-white)

Justices review all-white murder trial jury - black man raped and murdered 79-year-old White woman
Timothy Tyrone FosterProsecutor Stephen Lanier’s meaning was unmistakable when he urged jurors in north Georgia to sentence the defendant to death in part to deter other people “out there in the projects.” Almost everyone in the public housing apartments near the scene of the killing of a 79-year-old woman in Rome, Georgia, was black, as was defendant Timothy Tyrone Foster. And after Lanier got through picking a jury of Foster’s peers, all the jurors were white. So was the victim. Foster has been on death row for nearly 30 years. - (Black-on-white)

It was the 4th quarter timeout of the Kings and Clippers season-opening game with about seven minutes left. If you look closely, you see Rivers picking up a cushion, and although in interviews with reporters he denies throwing it, that cushion goes flying into the stands and hits Lindsey Read. - (Black-on-white)

Tilon CarterTARRANT COUNTY — A Fort Worth man sent to death row for smothering an 89-year-old man and robbing him of about $6,000 has lost a federal court appeal. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals late Wednesday rejected arguments that 35-year-old Tilon Carter had deficient legal help at his trial more than 11 years ago in Fort Worth. Judges also disagreed that faulty instructions were given to his jurors. Carter was condemned for the 2004 slaying of James Tomlin. Evidence showed Tomlin, a retired Bell Helicopter worker, kept cash in containers scattered around his home. At his trial, prosecutors portrayed Carter as a longtime criminal who led a prison riot while serving a five-year sentence for robbery when he was 16.     Two (black) men accused in brutal pack attack of off-duty (White) Army captain outside a Plaza restaurant
Raymond P. Robinson and Antonio D. StuckeyKANSAS CITY, MO - Two Kansas City men are facing assault charges after an off-duty Army captain was brutally attacked outside a Plaza restaurant. Raymond P. Robinson and Antonio D. Stuckey each face charges of first and second degree assault after two men were seriously injured when they were hit and stomped outside the Mexican restaurant. The 37-year-old Army captain suffered a significant loss of blood after he suffered numerous broken bones in his face, possible optic nerve damage to one of his eyes and a skull fracture. He was hospitalized for more than a week before the combat veteran returned to Fort Leavenworth where he continues to get treatment. The captain and a group of friends were dining last month at the Zocaola Mexican restaurant. The captain accidentally bumped Robinson, prosecutors allege. The man bumped tried to start a fight, and restaurant management kicked him out. About 12:10 a.m. Sept. 19, the soldier walked out of the restaurant and the man he bumped and a gang of his buddies were waiting for him because they were "looking for a fight," according to a Kansas City Police Department report. A witness said the suspect sucker punched the soldier. The gang started "boot stomping" the prone man. Stuckey allegedly left his debit card at the restaurant, which helped police locate him and Robinson. - (Black-on-white)
