Elijah Smithblack attackerWhite victimWASHINGTON - Metro police say they have identified a suspect accused of punching a 69-year-old man in the face in the Eastern Market Metro station last week. Police say they have issued a warrant for the arrest of 19-year-old Elijah Smith. Smith faces a felony assault charge, and if convicted he could face an enhanced penalty of 1.5 times the maximum prison term because of the age of the victim. That video was released within a few hours of the time the assault took place in hopes someone would recognize him. The elderly victim told police he was shoved by the suspect as they got of a train, and that led to an argument. The video shows the suspect waiting for the victim at the top of the escalator as they exited the platform, and the suspect is seen spitting on the victim, and then punching him three times. The man was hospitalized and treated for facial injuries. The man was knocked out, but fortunately, the escalator was not working at the time. Dexter Bell Samantha MoscosoNEW YORK -- A correction officer at Rikers Island was sexually assaulted while escorting an inmate over the weekend, and now, in a bizarre twist, she claims she was reprimanded for her actions during the incident and even threatened with losing her job. "He violated me," officer Samantha Moscoso said. Moscoso has barely started to process her nightmare, but she wanted to speak out about what happened to her behind the locked doors on Rikers Island. Moscoso's job is to work a special segregation unit that houses the most violent inmates. On Sunday morning, she says she was taking 25-year-old Dexter Bell to the shower. His hands were cuffed, and she was behind him. But he managed to pin her up against a railing, reaching back and grabbing her between the legs. "And I had to sit there and get him off me by any means possible," she said. "By putting my hands on him in his head, his neck, his upper torso area, so he could let go." She didn't know Bell is a Level 2 sex offender convicted in the attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl.     (Black) "Common-law husband" arrested on suspicion of killing (white) wife in East El Paso home
Greg Lavan DudleyDeanna StewartAn El Paso man suspected of killing his common-law wife had allegedly threatened to kill her in the past. Police homicide detectives arrested Greg Lavan Dudley, 49, in connection with the death of Deanna Stewart, 38, who was found dead inside the home the couple shared in East El Paso. County records show the couple owned a company named D&G Cleaning Services. Stewart was apparently shot and killed Friday. Stewart was last seen alive at about 11 a.m. Friday when she dropped her daughter off at school. When the daughter returned at 4:30 p.m., Dudley slammed the door in her face and locked it. At 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Stewart's sister and her daughter went into the home and found Stewart dead in the living room. Stewart appeared to have a gunshot wound to her back and another to her right chest. A kitchen knife was found next to her. There were signs of a struggle but no signs of forced entry. Stewart's daughter told police that Dudley "would never let the victim out of his sight for any length of time due to his jealously." "In the past, the defendant (Dudley) has sent the victim text messages, threatening to kill her." The daughter "stated that the victim feared the defendant, that she observed him making a hand gesture resembling a gun toward the victim's head, and that she had seen the victim with bruises in the past. Other family members and police records indicate a history of family violence involving the defendant and the victim." El Paso County court records show Dudley was arrested on family violence charges in 2012 and 2009. In both cases, he pleaded not guilty and the charges were later dismissed. On Sept. 18, Dudley was sentenced to four days in jail after pleading guilty to an assault charge. The criminal complaint stated that Dudley called his sister at about 5:30 p.m. Friday crying and "told her that he no longer wanted to live." About 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dudley called his sister again and "told her that he was in a living hell, and that he couldn't deal with the relationship with the victim any longer." - (Black-on-white)

(Black) Novi man's 6 month jail for killing a (White) cyclist challenged as too lenient
Tommy TaylorTimothy TaciePORT HURON - A prosecutor says a one-year jail sentence given to a Novi man who was drunk when his car hit and killed a bicyclist is too lenient. St. Clair County Prosecutor Mike Wendling said his office is appealing Tommy Taylor's sentence. Taylor, 38, was sentenced to only one year in the county jail and 5 years of probation in the death of 41-year-old Timothy Tacie. "We felt the sentence was too lenient given the facts of the case, and the damage caused and the death of the individual," Wendling said. Police said Taylor was driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.175 when he struck and killed Tacie, who was riding his bicycle. That's more than twice the level at which a person can be arrested for drunken driving. Taylor was convicted in February of operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony. During Taylor's sentencing, St. Clair County Circuit Judge Cynthia Lane departed from sentencing guidelines — which recommended a minimum of two years, five months in prison — and sentenced Taylor to five years of probation and one year in the county jail, with the possibility of work release in six months. Wendling said the reasons given at sentencing were not sufficient to depart from the guideline range. "After discussions with the father of the victim, we were willing to pursue an appeal," Wendling said. - (Black-on-white)

Attorneys for the 28-year-old Nelson contended there were 15 errors at his 2012 trial in Fort Worth for the slaying of Clint Dobson, pastor at NorthPointe Baptist Church in Arlington, and near fatal beating of Judy Elliott, the church secretary. The appeals court Wednesday rejected arguments that evidence wasn't sufficient to convict him of capital murder and sentence him to death, that the jury selection and jury instructions were improper and that text message evidence improperly was allowed.     Police have person of interest in Trenton strangulation murder
Aaron Marshall is a person of interest.George Hite TRENTON, Mich - A 65-year-old man is murdered in Trenton for the city's first homicide in 10 years. More than a month later, police have a person of interest in the case, Aaron Syndney Marshall. Marshall, 35, is sitting in Wayne County Jail tonight and may soon be facing charges for the death of George Hite. The Detroit man was charged Tuesday with lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation and with being a habitual offender. Hite's niece, Sharon Fox, says "I hope they arrest whoever did it and they rot in jail. That's where they deserve to be." On March 11, Hite was found strangled to death inside his condo he shared with his elderly mother. Police say Hite met Marshall - an ex-con with a long history of brushes with the law, at the casino. Police believe there are more people involved, but the relationship Hite made with Marshall at the casino possibly cost him his life. There was no forced entry into the condo, which means Hite let his killers in. There they strangled him with a belt and left him for dead. "Must have been something," Fox said. "He must have won and somebody followed him home. Instead of just asking for the money, kills him for nothing." A motive is still unclear, but police believe women may also be involved. - (Black-on-white)

Sheriff Ingram says the pair planned Dethlefsen's murder and Wyche carried it out by stabbing Dethlefsen several times with a kitchen knife while she slept. The teen called a family member after the crime, who then told the teen to call 911. The Sheriff's Office has charged the 13-year-old daughter as an adult, but Ingram says it will be up to the District Attorney on whether they will proceed with trying her as an adult.     (White) Philadelphia Man, 79, Serving Life Term For (Black) Robber’s Death Dies
Jamil BurtonBarry MasonA 79-year-old Philadelphia tool repairman sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a man who robbed him has died in prison. Barry Mason died March 30 at State Correctional Institution where he was serving a life term for the August 2006 death of Jamil Burton. The prison said Mason died of natural causes. The old man was 70 years old when he retaliated against the 19-year-old Burton after Burton swiped a gold neck chain and wedding band from Mason, then took off on a bike. Mason chased after Burton to the Louis I. Kahn Memorial Park, hitting the South Philadelphia man with his vehicle, then pulling out his .380-caliber handgun - which he was licensed to carry - and shooting Burton multiple times. The middle-of-the-night chase happened after Burton approached Mason's Lincoln Continental as he was sitting with the driver-side window down. Burton leaned through the window and snatched the gold chain with an $18,000 ring hanging from it. Mason, who had no prior criminal record, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced in January 2008 to life without parole. At trial, Mason's lawyer urged the jury to consider the fatal shooting an act of self-defense. "His life is destroyed by this event he didn't start," attorney Gerald Stein said. But jurors ultimately agreed with the prosecution's view, convicting Mason. - (Black-on-white)

Jason MitchellAaron Jerome DavisSt. Petersburg, Florida -- A man fleeing police early Saturday hit two men crossing the street -- killing a popular chef walking home -- and was later found at a bar. At dawn, friends of Aaron Jerome Davis who worked at The Kitchen St. Pete made a memorial at the crash scene. About 2 a.m., Jason Mitchell was driving at a high rate of speed. The police DUI squad saw him and attempted to stop the vehicle as it slowed. Mitchell accelerated at a very high rate, clearly indicating that he was not going to stop.

Jason Mitchell continued accelerating southbound, running the red light. Two pedestrians, Aaron Jerome Davis and Brian Lee LaFrance, were crossing 2nd Street. The pedestrians had the green light and the crossing signal on the pedestrian control. Witnesses were stopped in the southbound curb lane, just north of the crosswalk. The Dodge passed the witnesses, running the red light and striking the two pedestrians.

LaFrance was sideswiped and spun onto the pavement. Davis was projected onto the hood and windshield, before vaulting over the roof. Davis, a chef at The Kitchen St. Pete, came to rest on the west sidewalk of 2nd Street.

Jason Mitchell drove off the southwest corner of the intersection, striking two concrete light pillars, ripping the right front wheel off of the vehicle. Jason Mitchell continued scraping along, coming to final rest. Mitchell and his passenger exited the vehicle and fled. With the assistance of club staff, the two subjects were apprehended at Push Ultra Lounge.

LaFrance was transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg in critical condition and has since been stabilized. He was released from the hospital on Sunday. Davis was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Mitchell has been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, aggravated fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and DUI serious bodily injury. While in custody in the Breath Testing Center of police headquarters, Mitchell attempted to escape and was quickly apprehended. Mitchell has bee arrested before for grand theft auto, fleeing police, giving a false name to law enforcement, and possession of marijuana, cocaine, crack.

According to a Facebook post, Davis was on headed home from his job as a chef at The Kitchen St. Pete. The post was by 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House, where his wife, Anastasia Granucci Davis, is executive chef. Her employer posted a link to announcing that C1 Bank branches are accepting donations for a fund dedicated to Anastasia, who is due to deliver the couple's second child this week. - (Black-on-white)
