"I just believe that he decided if he couldn’t have the girl, nobody could have her.” Taylor and Bell had been dating for three years and had a child together. Suspect In Christopher Rossing’s Disappearance Appears In Court MINNEAPOLIS — The suspect in the disappearance of a 25-year-old Wright County man appeared in court Monday while the victim’s family and friends held a prayer vigil outside. Family, friends and law enforcement searched for weeks last fall for any signs of the missing Howard Lake man, 25-year-old Christopher Rossing. It was while searching some farm fields across the road from where Robert Nuttall and his girlfriend, Gwen Butcher lived, that burned bone fragments were recovered. Nuttal and Butcher were both arrested and charged on probable cause kidnapping. But without a positive identification of those fragments or the recovery of Rossing’s body, no murder charges can be filed. “The message is justice for Christopher so it gets out to the public,” Sue Tighe, a friend of Rossing, said. Tighe joined Rossing’s family and friends as they gathered in prayer and silent protest outside the Wright County Courthouse. - (Black-on-white) |

Forbidden romance, a heated argument and a grisly Staten Island murder STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- In the summer of 1975, Susan Jacobson and Dempsey Hawkins, neighbors in Port Richmond, began dating at a time when interracial romance was still frowned upon. But the two young teens -- she, an attractive and vivacious 13-year-old white girl, and he, a handsome, smart 15-year-old black male -- didn't see color. Hawkins was Ms. Jacobson's first boyfriend. Their romance blossomed into the fall and winter, but took an unexpected turn when Ms. Jacobson became pregnant. She was still in intermediate school. So, in January, 1976, Ms. Jacobson underwent an abortion. Afterward, her parents -- William, and his late wife, Ellen -- recommended that their daughter and Hawkins take a break from each other and see other people. If their relationship was meant to be, they could always get back together, Ms. Jacobson's parents reasoned. TRAGIC END TO RELATIONSHIP And the relationship did end several months later, but in a way no one (except you, dear NNN readers) could have imagined. On May 15, 1976, Hawkins, then 16, strangled Ms. Jacobson to death with a shirt. She was 14. Prosecutors said Hawkins killed Ms. Jacobson during a quarrel in which she sought to break off from him. Hawkins then hid her body in a 55-gallon oil barrel inside an underground bunker at a former Mariners Harbor shipyard. Ms. Jacobson's grieving family, whom Hawkins pretended to aid, searched relentlessly for Susan's body for months. They even sought a nationally-known psychic's help. But her decomposed corpse wasn't recovered for 22 months -- and then, by chance. Three boys came across Ms. Jacobson's skeletal remains on March 25, 1978, as they were exploring in the area. Hawkins, a 52-year-old native of England, has spent the last 34 years in prison for murdering the Prall Intermediate School student. And he'll remain behind bars at least two more years. - (Black-on-white) |

(White female) Irish Tourist Tearfully Confronts (black) Man Who Attacked Her NEW YORK — A woman went through an emotional confrontation in court in the Bronx Friday, as she came face-to-face with the man who attacked her. Alisha Jordan broke down in tears after she bravely faced Kevin Bynum. “Within the span of one night, my entire life changed,” she said in a victim impact statement court. Jordan, 23, was visiting from Ireland in 2012 when Bynum hit her in the face with a slab of concrete, after a night out with friends. She returned to New York on Friday so she could tell Bynum in person just how horribly he hurt her. “I suffered extensive injuries, including a fractured skull which required 10 metal plates inserted into my head, broken cheek bones, broken orbital bones, a crushed nose and cracked teeth — and all for no reason at all,” she said. Jordan underwent several surgeries to reconstruct her face. The attack, random and unprovoked, left Jordan physically and emotionally scarred. “I sat and cried almost every night about how this attack disfigured my face, and the fear of you that I lived in was crippling,” she said. Jordan said she has since moved on with her life, but the horror of that night will live with her forever. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Alleged Crips Gang Member, Reginald Ross, Goes To Trial In 2 Suffolk County Slayings RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — The trial began Wednesday for a Long Island man accused in two separate killings. Loved ones of the two victims packed the Suffolk County courtroom, some with tears in their eyes as opening statements began at the trial of Reginald Ross. Construction flagman Raymond Hirt was shot to death in Ronkonkoma on May 24, 2010. Authorities allege Ross stalked the victim for more than a week and then killed him after complaining about being delayed in traffic. Prosecutors said Ross believed Hirt disrespected him by making him wait too long at a construction site. “He was a wonderful, wonderful man,” Hirt’s fiancé told Hall. “That morning, waved goodbye and blew kisses, never would I have thought I wouldn’t see him come home.” The second victim, John Williams, was shot to death in Holbrook five months later. The prosecutor alleges that killing was over a disputed drug deal involving not Williams, but a friend of his. The DA identifies Ross as a member of the Crips street gang. - (Black-on-white) |
