man charged with shooting a Battle Creek police officer could face
two life sentences if convicted.Andre Yarbrough, 30, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of assault with intent to murder and assault on a police officer resulting in serious injury and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Yarbrough is charged with shooting and wounding Battle Creek Police Officer Jeff Johnson, 35, early Saturday, while Johnson was attempting to arrest Yarbrough on several warrants. Late Tuesday, Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert also authorized charges against Yarbrough's girlfriend, Heather Arredondo, 27, for resisting a police officer causing serious injury and harboring a fugitive. Police have alleged that Yarbrough was staying with Arredondo at 310 Cherry St. and that she interfered as Johnson was attempting to arrest Yarbrough. She was arrested Monday on an unrelated warrant and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on the new charges. Battle Creek police said he shot Johnson twice, once in the leg and then, when the officer was on the ground, in the upper chest. Body armor protected Johnson from the second shot, which injured his wrist, police said. Johnson was released from Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo on Monday where he had been treated since the shooting. - (Black-on-white) |

police, but has non-life threatening injuries.GLENDALE, Ariz — Police have identified the suspect and the victim in the deadly temp agency shooting in Glendale Monday. The victim died from his injuries at the hospital. Police identified him Tuesday as 50- year-old Scott Isaacson. Police say he was shot multiple times. The shooter, who was later shot in an officer-involved shooting with Glendale PD near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road Monday afternoon was identified as 40-year-old Julius Grant. Police say Grant, a former employee of Integrity Staffing Solutions, was upset over a pay issue. Grant went to the location and after pacing around outside, he entered an office where Isaacson was meeting with two other employees. Grant broke up the meeting. Court documents say Grant indicated to investigators that Isaacson's body language suggested that nothing was going to be done about the pay situation and he shot him three times. Employees reported barricading themselves in their offices. One woman, who is a recruiter and payroll specialist for the business, said Grant put the gun against her forehead and chest multiple times. Police don't think Isaacson oversaw Grant or was responsible for his pay issue. - (Black-on-white) |

Wis. - A woman was arrested after allegedly punching and throwing an
educator to the ground. Lacandis Walker is in custody on suspicion of felony battery to school employees and disorderly conduct. Officers were called to Orchard Ridge Elementary around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said a woman came into the school office looking to speak to several staff members about how her child was disciplined at school, according to Joel DeSpain, a spokesperson for the Madison Police Department. The victim is one of the staff members the woman was looking for and happened to walk into the office, DeSpain said. Witnesses told police the woman went toward the educator, grabbed her hair, punched her in the face and head and threw her to the ground. The educator went into a fetal position, covering her head and face while the suspect delivered punches and kicks, DeSpain said. Other staff members helped pulled the woman off her. The victim went into an office and the door was locked, DeSpain said. A colleague told police the victim was crying and saying, "I was just doing my job." Police said the suspect left before police got to school. |

After fatally shooting McWhorter in the rear of 27-25 12 Street in Astoria, police said that McIntosh called her brother to help her dispose of the body, but that they couldn’t hoist McWhorter’s corpse into the cargo area of his own Jeep. Police said that McIntosh opted instead to torch the body. She then washed the blood-stained clothes she was wearing during the shooting and moved McWhorter’s car away from the crime scene. |

Ohio (WJW) — Police identified the employee who was stabbed to death
at a Golden Corral in Sandusky.Cevin Stanley, 32, of Sandusky, died during the incident that happened around 9 p.m. at the 5903 Milan Road restaurant Sunday, according to a news release from Perkins Township police. Two people were arrested Monday afternoon in connection with the stabbing, police told the FOX 8 I-Team. Demetrius Hall, 28, is charged with murder and Tausha Patch, 33, is charged with complicity to murder. Witnesses told police that a customer and a Golden Corral employee exchanged words near closing time. The exchange of words turned into a verbal altercation over food that took place inside the restaurant. Some of the witnesses said fellow employees gathered the employee and removed him from the area, eventually taking him outside to the rear of the restaurant to calm down before anything physical occurred. The customer also then exited the restaurant, approached the employee and stabbed him. The suspect then left the area in a white SUV, turning south on U.S. 250. The victim managed to walk back into the restaurant, where he collapsed. Other employees called 911 for help. When they arrived, officers and EMS tried to resuscitate Stanley, but he died at the scene. "I wanted to go to school for criminal justice and psychiatry and now, I have my 11-year-old brother help me with my math, which was my best subject in school," Jones told a judge on Monday. "I also used to be able to sing very well. I can't anymore. I used to be able to dance very well and I can't anymore." "I'm still hopeful that every day I'll get slowly better but I feel my life has been destroyed." For destroying that life, her attacker Byron Mitchell, 39, was sentenced Monday to life in prison. In June, a jury convicted him of attempted murder and false imprisonment for the Feb. 14, 2016, attack that left Jones in a coma for nearly one month. Prosecutors said Mitchell attacked Jones, who was 23 at the time, inside their Overtown apartment. The two met after Jones placed a Craigslist ad looking for a roommate. They were living together just over a week. Mitchell grew obsessed with Jones, and became so angry that she had no interest in him that he beat, choked and stabbed Jones. At trial, jurors rejected Mitchell's claim that he acted in self-defense. The sentence was imposed by Miami-Dade Circuit Judge John Schlesinger, a longtime judge who said most of the women who endure the "savagery and brutality" of similar attacks don't survive. - (Black-on-white) |

individuals. Kokomo police responded to a 911 call around 10:40 p.m.
about a shooting at Lincolnwood Apartments. Additional calls
indicated that a person was down at that location.Officers arrived to find 15-year-old Dalton Wayne Fisher suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Kokomo police arrested Fisher’s sister, 22-year-old Kyli L. Fisher, on charges of neglect of a dependent, possession of a handgun without a permit and dealing a controlled substance. According to police, Kyli Fisher drover (sic) her younger brother to the Lincolnwood Apartments because the two planned to sell marijuana there. Once they arrived, two males got into the Pontiac, leading to an altercation in which shots were fired. Witnesses reported seeing at least two males running from the vehicle. Kokomo Police Captain Tondra Cockrell said that she had taken a gun on the drug deal,” Since investigators believe Kyli Fisher arranged the drug deal, they hope she will be able to name the two individuals seen running from the scene. Police are looking for the two individuals. Witnesses described one as a light-skinned black male, about 5’6″-5’7″, with a thin build and a distinct flat nose. He wore dark clothing. Crews is accused of killing William Johenkins, who was found dead in a minivan on Jan. 24. Officers responding to a report of a shooting on Hanford Place around 12:40 a.m. found Johenkins, 45. He had been shot in the face. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton police issued warrants for Crews on Saturday. U.S. Marshals located him in Burlington and took him in on murder and weapons charges. Crews will appear for a detention hearing on Dec. 13. |

Wednesday after her special needs teenager was found abandoned at a
downtown hospital, cold, confused and unable to say who he was.

Memorial Hospital because she felt overwhelmed caring for him as
well as three other children, police said. Police had pleaded
for information from the public to identify the child, whom they
described as non-verbal, with a
diminished mental capacity and unable to answer questions.
Tips led them to his mother, Diana Elliott, 37, who was
staying at a local hotel with three other children. It wasn't
immediately clear whether she has a lawyer who could speak on her

Ala. (WIAT) — During a hearing Tuesday for Patrick Stallworth,
one of the suspects in the murder of Birmingham girl Kamille
“Cupcake” McKinney, prosecutors said that meth and a
sedative were found in the 3-year-old’s body.Patrick Stallworth, 39, was charged in late October with capital murder, alongside 29-year-old Derick Irisha Brown, in Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney’s death. On Tuesday, the court found probable cause to send his capital murder case to a grand jury. Stallworth and Brown have been persons of interest in the case ever since the toddler’s abduction from a party at the Tom Brown Village public housing community on Saturday, Oct. 12. McKinney died of asphyxiation that same day, investigators said. Her body was recovered 10 days later in a dumpster at a north Jefferson County landfill. |

victim fled her home to a next-door neighbor to get away from Roberto
Collins, 36, after he threw a laundry basket at her and her
daughter, according to an affidavit. The victim told deputies

The suspect returned home, the victim advised she was leaving him and breaking off their engagement. As they continued you argue, Collins then picked a laundry basket full of clothes and threw it at the victim, said the affidavit. The victim and her daughter, which she was holding, were hit and the daughter obtained a scratch over her left eye. The victim then told officers Collins began punching the her in the head and face. She fled next door to call 911, said the affidavit. When deputies arrived on scene, the victim said she heard four shots fired before they arrived. Deputies set up a perimeter around the home and they heard one more gunshot. They observed Collins walking around the backyard and ordered him to drop all weapons to place his hands in the air, deputies said. Collins was taken into custody. |

connection with the death of a Thorntons gas station clerk following
a Thanksgiving night robbery in Oldham County, according to police.Terry D. offenses that took place in Memphis was sentenced to 371 years in
prison Monday, Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich
said. William L. Gossett, 37, was described by a judge as “a poster child for serial rapists.” He pleaded guilty in September to 29 total felony counts, including aggravated rape, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony, identity theft, attempted aggravated rape and theft. The cases involved 15 victims from more than a dozen incidents that occurred between July 2012 and April 2016. The majority of those events took place in apartment units in Memphis, according to Weirich. Gossett also has a juvenile criminal record. filed a report with the Louisville Metro Police Department and a
rape kit was performed. The case was reopened nearly 30 years
later at the request of the victim. Officials discovered two
untested items from her rape kit and sent those to the lab for DNA
testing. The results of this test identified Smith's DNA was present
in the victim's rape kit. Smith was arrested shortly after and
charged with sodomy, rape and burglary. |

— Salisbury Police detectives say they have solved the 35-year-old
murder of Reesa Dawn Trexler, a
local teen who was found stabbed to death at her grandfather’s North
Shaver Street home, according to details revealed during a morning
press conference. Officials would only say that the suspect was a black male and that the case has been cleared. However, the Post obtained a petition for the exhumation of Curtis Edward Blair, whose body, court records show, was exhumed to conduct a forensic evaluation. The petition indicates witnesses saw a black male running in the area of the crime scene at the time of the homicide. Investigators received information that Blair was employed by Frito-Lay in Salisbury, two blocks from the crime scene. According to the court documents, a case summary says investigators seized a knife belonging to C. Blair, which was submitted to the state crime lab for analysis, but no blood was detected. Salisbury Police submitted a DNA swab from a sexual assault kit and the lab was able to extract DNA and developed a male DNA profile. Police consulted with Parabon NanoLabs and submitted the profile for a genetic genealogy report. Based on genetic, genealogical and circumstantial evidence, Blair was a “very strong candidate to be the subject of the unidentified male extracted DNA profile,” court documents said. Blair died Aug. 6, 2004, court records show, and at the time of his death, he lived in San Diego County, California. His remains were interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Salisbury a few weeks later. Trexler, 15, was found June 15, 1984, nude on the floor in a bedroom of the home. She had been stabbed several times in the upper chest and neck. An autopsy would later reveal the blade of a knife had broken off and was found in her right shoulder. - (Black-on-white) |

N.C. — Two people charged with murder following the death of a man
who was beaten at the Brier Creek shopping center in northwest
Raleigh last month made their first court appearances on Friday.Police officers responding to a reported assault shortly before 6 p.m. on Nov. 23 found William Edward "Billy" Allison, 65, beaten outside a Papa John's pizza store at 10251 Little Brier Creek Lane. Jarius Jimil Barnes, 23, of 2537 Dality Drive in Raleigh, and Ladaja Chakure Nelson, 22, of 9230 Count Fleet Drive in Raleigh, were initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in the case. Police upgraded the charges to murder on Thursday after Allison died. Longtime friend Cathy Anna described Allison as "a beautiful, beautiful soul." "When you first meet him, you don’t forget him. He was such a character and had so much life in him," Anna said. "That smile would just light up the room. He was bigger than life." Witnesses said Allison stepped into a parking spot just as a woman was pulling in. "They are beating a gentleman who is elderly. They beat him, they beat him," a caller told a 911 dispatcher, noting that a dispute over a parking spot led to the attack."They came out of the car and beat him up because he was standing on the parking spot and they were waiting," the caller said. "They just jumped on him and beat him." Catherine Kim said he was leaving her yogurt shop nearby when Allison was attacked. "Unconsciously, he stepped down in the parking lot, and then the lady tried to come in, pulled in her car," Kim said. "Billy tried to stop her, but she got really offended, and she got out of the car and yelled at her boyfriend, and the boyfriend ran up to him and started beating him." Allison was taken to WakeMed for treatment, and he died on Monday. "As [Allison] took his final breath, we saw a smile come to his face, and we knew he just met Jesus – and we can’t be mad about that," Anna said. "His legacy is of just love. He loved the Lord. charged with injury to a child. Authorities said John Terrell,
27, forced the boy to get into a hot shower, causing burns to more
than 25 percent of his body.Authorities said Terrell made the child get into the hot shower as punishment for getting a bad grade at school. After making the boy get into the hot shower, according to court documents, Terrell took him to a bedroom where he spanked and choked him. Roekeicha Brisby is accused of not taking her son to get treatment until three days after the incident. Detectives said Brisby fabricated a story in order to make it seem like the boy was burned during a cooking accident. |

shooting in Houston's East End, according to police chief Art
Acevedo.Sgt. Christopher Brewster was responding to a domestic disturbance call on Avenue I just after 5:45 p.m. That call was from a female who advised dispatchers that her boyfriend was assaulting her and that he was armed with two weapons, Acevedo said. Brewster arrived less than five minutes later to find the couple had left the location, but were found walking in the 7400 block of Avenue L. Brewster came under fire as soon as he tried to exit his patrol cruiser, according to Acevedo. Arturo Solis, 25, is the suspected shooter, Acevedo said. Solis has a lengthy criminal history including a charge of assault causing bodily injury. Brewster was hit multiple times, but still managed to draw his weapon and radio a description of the suspect to other responding officers. Solis told authorities he was aware Brewster was a police officer and shot him in order to avoid arrest. |
