Citi Bike fatality could have avoided the tragic collision. “It was
a day of mourning. It was a day of loss. It was a day that can never
be forgotten for many people but mostly for the friends and family
of the late Dan Hanegby,”
said Assistant District Attorney Raffaela Belizaire in her opening
statement at driver Dave Lewis’ non-jury trial.She said that Lewis, 52, spotted Hanegby riding west on 26th Street, the same direction as his bus, honked at him then tried to pass him near Eighth Avenue. “He fully appreciated it was dangerous to try to pass, to try to squeeze through,” the prosecutor said of the June 12, 2017, collision that killed the Credit Suisse banker. Hanegby, a father of two, toppled off his bike and was crushed under the rear wheel of the 50,000-pound bus. Although Lewis stopped and waited for police, Belizaire said, “That subsequent cooperation couldn’t undo his prior error in judgment.” The victim’s wife wept as she listened to the prosecutor’s account. Defense lawyer Jeremy Saland argued in Manhattan Criminal Court that it was the victim who had behaved imprudently. “Upon Mr. Hanegby’s ears were Beats, large over-the-ear headphones,” said the attorney. “He also was not wearing a helmet.”Lewis honked “with a blaring horn” but Hanegby, 36, appeared not hear the warning, Saland said. Uber driver in Colorado Springs, CO   A
22-year-old man is accused of hitting, biting and trying to
sexually assault a 63-year-old Uber driver — and then stealing
her car — early Monday near downtown Colorado Springs, police said.
Raydrian Tyree Scott was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of
attempted sexual assault, second-degree assault, robbery, aggravated
motor vehicle theft and failure to register as a sex offender,
police said. He was in possession of the victim's white 2011
Chevrolet Cruze. The driver picked up a man in the 500 block of East
Dale Street, where he assaulted her, "causing significant injuries,"
police said. When she got out of her car, the man allegedly took it
and fled. Police responded about 4:30 a.m., and the woman
was taken to a hospital. The woman, identified only by her first
name, Lorraine, said
that she fought back. "The cops told me that's the reason I got away
alive," she said.Scott also was arrested on several unrelated misdemeanor warrants, including domestic violence charges out of Pueblo and a non-extraditable warrant out of Alabama related to his failure to register as a sex offender, police said. - (Black-on-white) |

COUNTY, N.C. - Deputies are investigating after two people were
killed and one person was seriously injured Monday morning in a
shooting at a Stanly County home. The Stanly County Sheriff's Office
responded to the scene on Shady Rest Road in New London around 9
a.m. Deputies said they found a
man and woman dead inside the home and another man
outside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities
arrested Meeko Harris, 33, who they said could be the
gunman. He was found in Anson County. Hilda Capel was on her way to pick up her granddaughter Monday morning to take her to court. (?) Her daughter, Cindy Capel, was one of two people deputies found dead inside the home. Neighbors said that the people inside the home were involved in drug activity. Great neighborhood. Nathan Harris lives next door and he just got out of prison on a second-degree murder charge. |

Charged With Sex Trafficking After Calling ‘Main Girl’ From Jail
 MINNEAPOLIS
(WCCO) – A Minneapolis man is facing sex trafficking charges after
officials say he called his “main girl” from jail, asking for money.
Albert Wilson, 52, is facing one count of promoting
prostitution, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says. According
to a criminal complaint, Wilson was put on investigators’ radar
after an informant identified him as being involving in commercial
sex trafficking. When police learned he was in custody for being a
felon in possession of a gun, investigators looked at his prison
phone records. What they found was that he was calling a woman
whose number was used in prostitution ads online, dating back
to October. In one of the calls, Wilson asks the woman for money,
and the woman replies that she “hadn’t even had sex today.” In
another call, Wilson demanded money from the woman and told her to
put it on a gift card for him. When officers asked Wilson about the
calls, he told them that the woman was his “main girl.” |

another person in a new case. Kyle Buchanan, 40, is accusing of using force or coercion to rape another man in Ingham County in May. He was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. Buchanan was previously convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2000 in Kent County. He's listed on the sex offender registry in the tier three category, meaning he has to report to police at least four times a year for life. This is the most serious designation. Buchanan faces a mandatory five-year minimum prison sentence if convicted as charged. |

    CINCINNATI
-- Cincinnati police on Thursday afternoon identified the gunman
behind a deadly shooting at Fifth Third Center as 29-year-old Omar
Enrique Santa-Perez of North Bend, Ohio. According to
Police Chief Eliot Isaac, police began to receive calls about a
shooter inside the Fountain Square landmark around 9:11 a.m. Perez
shot five people, killing one on-scene and fatally wounding two
others, before a group of four Cincinnati officers
shot him "multiple times," Isaac said. While Santa-Perez's surviving
victims were rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center,
police determined he had been killed in the exchange of fire.

The man who fatally shot five people then turned the gun on himself
Wednesday had been divorced four months and was going through court
proceedings stemming from the dissolution of his marriage, Sheriff
Donny Youngblood said during a press conference Thursday morning.
"Obviously this has indications of a domestic violence case," he
said during a press conference Thursday morning in which he played
body camera footage that captured the shooter's final moments.The shooter, identified as Javier Casarez, 54, brought his estranged wife, Petra Maribel Bolanos De Casarez, 45, to a trucking company in southeast Bakersfield at 5:18 p.m. Casarez confronted and gunned down T&T employee Manuel Contreras, 50, then shot and killed his wife. Casarez chased another person at the business, Antonio Valadez, 50, to the front of Bear Mountain Sports and shot him too, the sheriff said. Shortly afterward, Casarez went to a house on Breckenridge road and shot dead Laura Garcia, 31, and her father, Eliseo Cazares, 57. The relationship between the shooter and Garcia and Cazares is not yet known, sheriff's officials say. Garcia may have tried to intervene when she was shot, Youngblood said. Casarez then carjacked a vehicle with a woman and child inside. He told them something similar to, “I’m not a bad guy,” then let them go and drove off in the vehicle. A deputy followed Casarez and confronted him when he pulled into a business on Edison Highway. Youngblood said a friend of Casarez worked at the business. The deputy ordered Casarez to drop his weapon and Casarez said he didn’t want to live. He then shot himself in the stomach, according to Youngblood. Casarez used a Smith & Wesson Model 500 handgun in the shootings. It's a .50-caliber gun and is one of the largest caliber handguns on the market, the sheriff said. Smith & Wesson's website describes the weapon as the "most powerful production revolver in the world." |

A new report tracking the roots, spread and effects of violent
Islamist extremism found that 121 groups that share elements from a
common ideology are now operating worldwide. Their activities
resulted in the deaths of 84,000
people – nearly 22,000 of them civilians – in 66 countries
in 2017, the report found.In remarks at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, DC, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Thursday that Islamist extremism is "global and growing." "It didn't begin with al Qaeda; nor will it end with the defeat of ISIS," Blair said. The "Global Extremist Monitor," which was produced by Blair's eponymous non-profit, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, drew on hundreds of English-language news sources that reported on incidents of violent extremism in 2017. There were a total of 7,841 attacks – an average of 21 per day –in 48 countries, it said, with war-torn Syria topping the list of countries most affected by violent extremism. Overall, Muslims were the most frequent victims of deadly attacks. Twenty-nine violent Islamist groups were actively engaged in conflict in Syria in 2017, the report said, with ISIS responsible for 44 percent of all attacks. Half of all civilian fatalities recorded globally were documented in Syria. A separate, recent UN report said there are between 20,000 and 30,000 ISIS fighters still operating across Iraq and Syria, though its self-proclaimed physical caliphate has been all but eliminated. |

girl HOUSTON,
Texas (KTRK) -- A Spring Branch ISD teacher has been arrested and
placed on leave after she allegedly touched a
14-year-old female student inappropriately more than
once and sent the girl sexually explicit messages.Whitney Anne Laidlaw, 32, is charged with sexual assault of a child under 17 years of age and improper relationship with a student for two alleged incidents occurring on Aug. 1 and Aug. 14. The victim identified Laidlaw as her hip-hop teacher at Cornerstone Academy Middle School. According to court documents, the student told investigators that she exchanged numbers with Laidlaw and that they communicated by phone, on Instagram and Snapchat. The teen said that Laidlaw texted her at the end of her 7th grade year, telling the girl that she had feelings for her. The student also told authorities that Laidlaw would ask her to sneak out of her apartment in Harris County to meet her during the summer. She says she told Laidlaw she didn't want to sneak out but the teacher showed up anyway at her apartment several times in the morning after the girl's mother left for work and asked her to meet her in her vehicle. The student said that Laidlaw kissed her and touched her inappropriately in the back seat and that it happened more than one time. The girl also stated that Laidlaw sent her pictures of herself with her shirt up wearing no bra and that Laidlaw would ask the student to do the same thing, but the victim refused. She also refused to send Laidlaw an inappropriate video of herself after being asked by the woman to do so. According to court records, the girl's father discovered messages on her cell phone that were sexual in nature and when he asked her about it, she told him they were from Laidlaw. She also told him about the kiss and Laidlaw allegedly touching her. |

Sanderson, 33, of Huber Heights, was sentenced to a total of 43 years in prison after being found guilty as charged of all counts and specification after a bench trial. On June 28, 2017, Sanderson, dressed in a police uniform and driving a Phillipsburg Police cruiser met with two women at the Knights Inn on Poe Avenue whom he had met via an ad on backpage.com. in prison.Taurean Dennardo Pitts, 34, was sentenced in Bibb County Superior Court after pleading guilty to child molestation and statutory rape, according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office for the Macon Judicial Circuit. Pitts also was sentenced to 10 years probation. He must abide by sex offender terms of probation upon release from prison, the release said. Pitts admitted to having sex with the girl in January 2017, although Pitts said he couldn’t remember her name, according to the release. The molestation came to light in March 2017. “What Mr. Pitts did was despicable,” District Attorney David Cooke said in the release. “It’s a safe bet that Mr. Pitts will remember this young girl’s name as he spends his next 20 years behind bars.” |

(CBS) – A former lifeguard at a West Philadelphia public pool is
accused of sexually assaulting a
16-year-old girl. Philadelphia police say
35-year-old Michael Daniels was the supervising lifeguard
at John B. Kelly Pool at the Fairmount Park Conservancy at the time
of the assault. The victim was a lifeguard at the facility.
Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said the assault happened
multiple times during the course of the summer. Daniels had worked
on and off at the John B. Kelly Pool since 2013. He has also worked
at the Marian Anderson Recreation Center at 740 South 17th St. last
month. Daniels was arrested on Monday and charged with contact with
a minor, corruption of minors, and indecent assault. |

victim's aunt saw the child performing oral sex on Daniels.
Police said the aunt entered the den area of Daniels' home, where he
and the victim were Sunday, and the victim told her what Daniels had
forced her to do. Police said relatives questioned Daniels and he
confessed to sexually battering the girl.Daniels had sexually battered the child on multiple occasions and exposed her to video pornography. Daniels faces charges of sexual assault on a child less than 12 and lewd and lascivious behavior on a child less than 12. Police said that prior to his arrest, Daniels served as a volunteer youth leader at the Mount Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church in Miami Gardens. |

to collect nearly $60,000 in

-- Police say two people were arrested in connection to the two
dogs that were found starving in a yard last month.
Amanda Pippens, 34, and Morris Ellison, 36, face charges of
cruelty to companion animals and abandoning animals. A Washington
Avenue resident reported the dogs Aug. 20 after finding one in her
back yard. The pit bull had
visible bones and was unable to stand or walk. The
resident said she tried to give the dog food and water, but it
couldn't stomach it. The resident told police two people who lived
next door had been evicted and moved out the night before. She also
said that the residents had owned at least six dogs during their two
years of living in the residence. The dog appeared to have
been left in the front yard, according to the report. Police
found a second emaciated pit bull a few houses down
from the first. A resident told police the neighbors had thrown the
dog outside while moving the night before. Both dogs were taken to
the Lorain Animal Clinic, where one later died. |

TOWNSHIP — A self-described “bounty hunter” stopped by police Monday
in a vehicle with emergency lights, siren, a scanner and a loaded
firearm was arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer
and related offenses. Kaumualli H. Draine Sr., 29, of the
1400 block of Perkins Street, is additionally charged with firearms
not to be carried without a license, and driving a vehicle with a
suspended registration. A passenger in Draine’s vehicle, Nidir
Muhammad, is also charged with firearms not to be carried
without a license. “It’s concerning to us that he could
be pulling people over … and getting information,” Police Chief
Kenneth Coalson said. Though Draine described himself as a bounty
hunter, Coalson said an investigation determined that he is neither

PINES, Fla. - A Pembroke Pines man was arrested Monday after pushing
people and damaging property at a 24 Hour Fitness, authorities said.
According to an arrest report, Zachary Dalrymple, 25,
arrived at the business at 8333 Pines Blvd. around 8:30 a.m. and
began destroying property at the front desk counter area, causing
more than $5,000 in damage. Pembroke Pines police said
Dalrymple then went toward the workout area and pushed
a 68-year-old man into a workout machine, causing the
victim to fall back. Police said the victim stood up and was pushed
again by Dalrymple. According to the arrest report, Dalrymple
also pushed a 61-year-old woman to the ground.It's unclear what led to the alleged outburst and attack. Police said officers took Dalrymple into custody, at which time Dalrymple kicked the rear driver's side door window bars, causing the door to not close properly along the top. Police said Dalrymple also headbutted the door column, leaving a dent in the vehicle. The total damage to the police car was estimated to be about $1,500. According to the arrest report, Dalrymple spit on an officer and struck him on his left hand. Police said he also struck another officer on the right arm. Authorities said Dalrymple was pepper-sprayed because he continued to spit at the officers. |

The Harris County District Attorney's Office asked for a higher bond, stating that he could be charged with murder. felony charges of indecency with a child and improper relationship

Charges were filed on Sept. 4 against Bradley Reynolds, who,
according to court documents, was a gym teacher at Bruce Elementary
at the time of the alleged incidents. The detective investigating
the case states the touching began on or around January 10, 2015,
and according to the girl, was happening every other day. According
to court documents, the girl told her mother in January 2017 that
her former teacher would get her alone in his office and rub her
private areas, also telling her not to tell anyone. She

Spottswood in East Memphis as she was driving home from work at
Newby’s on Highland.The case went unsolved for years, but in 2014 a man serving prison time in Texas for an unrelated homicide told Memphis cold-case police detectives that Phanivong and another man were responsible for Perkins’ death. Phanivong, also known as “Kapoo,” has been in jail for nearly five years, though under the law in effect at the time of the crime he is eligible for parole since he has served 30 percent of his sentence, Weirich said. He will serve the remaining 10 years of his sentence under the supervision of the Community Corrections Program which diverts felony offenders from the prison system while providing supervision to reduce future criminal behavior. My safety and well-being has been threatened and I don't feel safe.’” When Garbee was asked what happened after she brought those concerns to APA management, she responded, “All of a sudden, automated messages from the HR system just started entering: unpaid day, unpaid day, unpaid day.” Garbee's doctor said the teacher should take a mental health leave. She believed the school would offer her paid administrative leave, but the school switched her to unpaid medical leave. Garbee says unpaid leave was against her wishes, and after being physically victimized at work, felt financially victimized too. Her employer did not pay 
what she estimated as $3,200 she counted on for the final three
weeks of the school year. Her final pay stub shows that.“It was very hard for me. I never said goodbye to my kids. I've had some of these kids for three years. A Hispanic principal is systematically booting white, Jewish and
older teachers from his Midtown high school, current and former
staffers allege in lawsuits. “I think he hates us,’’ Peter
Cohn, a former teacher at the High School of Art and
Design, said of the school’s principal, Manuel Ureña.
A Manhattan federal suit filed by teacher Todd Young claims Ureña,
who is of Dominican heritage, initiated a mass faculty
replacement at the school after being appointed principal in 2016.
“Since Principal Ureña has arrived at the school, he has targeted
several Jewish teachers,” the suit says, naming Young
and another teacher, Maya Zabar, as targets.Ureña also “targeted many Caucasian teachers at the school and overwhelmingly hired Hispanic teachers to replace Caucasian teachers.” |

report, Pilgrim committed the sexual assault at Magnolia Manor on
September 8. The arrest warrant says the
victim was either mentally defective or incapacitated or
physically helpless. Deputies stress that this is an
isolated incident and there are no other victims at this time.Pilgrim is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $20,000 bond. |

former Air Force police officer has been sentenced to a decade in
prison in a deadly crash during a high-speed chase of a car carrying
her estranged husband and another woman. Shade Cooper, 28, of
East Granby, Connecticut, was convicted by a jury in a retrial in
June of reckless manslaughter in the December 2015 crash in
Bordentown Township.Burlington County prosecutors said she became enraged when another woman picked up her husband, 26-year-old Nicholas Cooper, after he visited his children at his wife's apartment on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Prosecutors said she followed the car for about 10 miles, striking it at one point, and as the high-speed pursuit continued the car eventually failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into an oncoming lane and was hit by a pickup truck, ending up in a wooded area in Bordentown. Cooper and 23-year-old Jocelyn Redding were killed. |

Hasidic man groped a kitchen worker at a Yeshiva in Borough Park
on Saturday, Sept. 2, police said. The suspect approached the
