Police
looking for ("armed and dangerous" dreadlocked black) person of
interest in triple shooting (including a White man)    FORT
WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne Police have asked for the public's
help to find a person of interest in a shooting last week that left
one person dead and two others hurt.Travon Rynell Fincher, a 21-year-old from Fort Wayne, has been named a person of interest in a shooting in the 800 block of Madison Street that happened just after 9 p.m. Aug. 30. First responders arrived at a home in that block and found 40-year-old Ricky Pelmear dead inside. Two others who were able to flee the area were found outside by police, both suffering from gunshot wounds. They have been identified as 41-year-old Jason Sandy and 33-year-old Rachel Burtz. They were taken to a hospital in critical and serious conditions. Police believe a disturbance took place inside the house, which led to shots being fired. — A man who beat a pregnant woman and tried to rape her will be
heading to a mental health facility instead of prison. Anthony
Smith in accused of attacking the woman near the LeBlond pool
on Riverside Drive in June. On Tuesday, a court found that Smith
committed felony assault and attempted rape. Those charges would
carry a maximum penalty of 16 years in prison. But the court also
found Tuesday that Smith is mentally ill. He will instead be
committed to Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare Hospital.The victim, who was nine months pregnant at the time of the attack, said she was walking her dog when Smith attacked her. The victim said Smith attempted to rape her and when she fought back, Smith hit her over and over in the face. The victim was beaten so severely she had to be hospitalized. Months before the attack, Smith was released from Summit Behavioral Center despite a series of violent attacks beginning in May 2017. "Some doctor at Summit made a decision that he was suitable to be released," said probate Judge Ralph Winkler. Winker said the court has little power over what happens after a person is considered to be mentally ill. "Once he's mentally ill, it becomes a medical decision, not a court decision. The doctors treating him decide when or if he should be released," Winkler said. - (Black-on-white) |

her birthday. Officials said she had been strangled. Naeshawn Perry, 17, has been charged as an adult with first- and second-degree murder. Perry is currently in juvenile custody for an unrelated rape case that took place in February 2017, six months before Solonka was killed. Police said they plan to serve a warrant on the murder charges this week. Solonka's grandmother, Donna Elliot, said she has always suspected Perry, whom she described as Solonka's ex-boyfriend, to be her killer. "For someone who claimed he loved my granddaughter, how could you kill her? Why? Why?" Elliot said. Elliot said Solonka was afraid of Perry for weeks before she disappeared. guilty in March of murder and other charges following a nonjury
trial. Police say Kuhn fled the Levittown Town Center store after
taking $228 worth of television speakers. He ran a red light and
collided with two other vehicles, the impact throwing his son onto

remains found in Cuyahoga River belongs to Akron man who went
missing two years ago AKRON,
Ohio -- Human remains that were found late last year by a fisherman
in the Cuyahoga River have been identified as a missing Akron man,
Akron police said. The remains were identified as those of La'Ron
Harris, 27, of Newton Street, police said. Harris' bones were
found by a man on Oct. 5, 2017, who was fly fishing along the bank
of the Cuyahoga River. Harris was last seen Feb. 20, 2016,
about 2:30 a.m. at the Lazy Gator bar in the Merriman
Valley's bar complex. A friend, Kaila Watkins, who was 25 at the
time, asked him for a ride home, according to police.The two got in the car and Harris drove out of the parking lot onto Weathervane Lane. Instead of continuing on Weathervane Lane towards Merriman Road, Harris drove into an apartment complex driveway and crashed through a wooden barrier. The car plummeted into the Cuyahoga River and sunk. Watkins told police they both escaped the car. She swam against the current to the riverbank and was unharmed. Watkins told police she saw Harris swimming with the current, but never saw him again. |

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Prosecutors say an Idaho prison inmate sent to
help fight a wildfire raped a woman who was also working to support
firefighters in Utah. Sanpete County Attorney Kevin Daniels said
Tuesday the woman had rejected several advances from 27-year-old Ruben
Hernandez before the Aug. 29 assault. Hernandez was
charged with felony rape. Prison inmates are also released to fight
wildfires in other Western states like California. Daniels says
county authorities weren’t aware inmates were working the fire about
60 miles (97 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City, but they are
typically low-level offenders nearing parole dates who do work like
cooking and cleaning. Idaho prison records show Hernandez would have
been eligible for parole on a drug charge in less than a year. |

Retired Police Officer Frank King’s
life was cut short just a few days before Christmas 1998 and his two
sons who spoke with Eyewitness News say they are still
devastated. Frank King and friends were relaxing at Regan’s On
The Boulevard when authorities say several men walked in to cause
trouble. “A shotgun was put to a woman’s head. The barmaid; and he
intervened and probably saved her life,” son Tommy King said. King
was retired from the force at the time and was unarmed when he
protected the bar employee. He was shot and killed. The man who
pulled the trigger, Robert Ramirez, is behind bars
for the rest of his life. Another man, Aaron Smith, who was
with Ramirez but did not pull the trigger was convicted of
second-degree murder. He has been in jail for almost 20 years. He
was sentenced to life in prison, but a U.S. Supreme Court
decision put out in 2016 indicated cases like Smith’s, must be
resentenced.What the family will not accept is Smith getting out of prison in the near future. Ace King says he met personally with Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner who indicated he would possibly recommend parole for Aaron Smith. “Overwhelmed. Disgusted in how this family has been treated,” Ace King said. Though Smith didn’t pull the trigger, King and his family believe he should be behind bars for another ten years. Ace King will read a victim impact statement in front of Aaron Smith and the judge on Tuesday. |

Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A Fort Bend County, Texas judge sentenced a
woman to 20 years in prison for helping cover up the murder of her
husband’s ex-girlfriend. A jury convicted Amanda Hayes, 46,
of tampering with evidence, in this case, a human corpse. She was
previously convicted of second-degree murder in North Carolina for
the woman’s death.According to Fort Bend County DA’s Office, Sheriff’s investigators were alerted to a possible human body found in a creek in July of 2011. That’s where they found two pieces of a human torso and part of a human lower leg. The following day, with the assistance of the Houston Police Department Dive Team, a human skull and thigh were located. A few weeks later, a worker with the Gulf Coast Water Authority recovered another human thighbone. As investigators had feared, the remains were later identified to be that of a missing 27-year-old mother of two from North Carolina. Laura Ackerson was reported missing in Kinston, North Carolina on July 18, 2011 after disappearing a week earlier. She was last known to be traveling to the home of Grant and Amanda Hayes to pick up her children she shared with Grant Hayes. The Hayes’ were later charged and convicted for the murder of Ackerson. Evidence indicated the couple killed Ackerson in their Raleigh, North Carolina apartment, cut up her body, and then transported it in coolers to the home of Amanda Hayes sister in Richmond, Texas. Once in Richmond, the couple first attempted to use muriatic acid to destroy Ackerson’s body. When that didn’t work, they took a boat onto Oyster Creek and dumped Ackerson’s body parts into the water with hopes that alligators would eat her remains. - (Black-on-white) |

when Julio Mendez, 43, allegedly approached her and persuaded
her to follow him out of the room, cops said. Mendez, who has four
prior arrests, including for rape and attempted murder, lives in the
building and was caught on surveillance video during the attack and
later identified by someone at the site, police sources said. Once
outside the laundry room, Mendez allegedly grabbed his victim by the
arm and the neck, and the woman resisted but fell to the ground.

with two separate sexual assaults -- one in Bellflower and another

announced Sunday. Joshua Cooper was arrested Saturday
afternoon in Bellflower and booked for assault with intent to commit
rape, robbery, and attempted rape, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department said in a statement.The first incident occurred about 10 a.m. Friday in Bellflower's 9200 block of Palm Street, where a 29-year-old woman was walking home when Cooper approached her from behind, according to the news release. "The suspect attacked the victim, sexually assaulted her and took the victim's cell phone before fleeing the scene," the sheriff's statement said. Some 2 1/2 hours later, investigators said, Cooper sexually assaulted a girl in a restroom at Lakewood High School. He allegedly fled the scene after a school employee entered the bathroom. |

November shooting death of a former IU School of Medicine doctor. An
18-year-old and a 15-year-old were charged in December.The Marion County Prosecutor's Office on Friday announced charges of felony murder and burglary against 18-year-old Nehemiah Merriweather, while Devon Seats, 17, faced charges of murder, felony murder and two charges of burglary. New information obtained by IMPD detectives led to the charges, the prosecutor's office said. According to court documents obtained last December, Dr. Kevin Rodgers was shot and killed during the course of a robbery in his Ballinshire South home in the Ballinshire Estates neighborhood near the east shore of Eagle Creek Reservoir. IMPD officers say he was discovered by his wife. In December, 18-year-old Ka'ron Bickham-Hurst and an unnamed worthless fatherless black thug were arrested and faced preliminary charges of murder and burglary. officer during a rally at Chicano Park earlier this year was
sentenced Friday to seven years in state prison. Frederick
Jefferson was convicted in early August of assaulting an SDPD
officer during a Feb. 3 demonstration at Barrio Logan’s Chicano
Park. Jefferson was found guilty on four counts, including using
force likely to cause great bodily injury on a police officer and
resisting a police officer with force or violence.Officer Matthew Ruggiero, who was punched by Jefferson, also addressed the court. "My skull is being held together with metal plates and I'm still going through orthodontic treatment for the injuries I sustained 7 months ago," said Ruggiero. "More important, my wife and my parents, and especially my kids, have been deeply affected and traumatized by this crime." Ruggiero was followed by his wife, who spoke through tears, saying, “When Jefferson decided not to comply, he took the next 6 to 12 months -- I don't know how many months this will end up being -- from my family's well-being, and he's changed our lives forever." Officer Ruggiero and his wife both made clear the February 3rd incident will forever impact their lives. They say their young daughter is still deeply worried every time her dad goes to work. |

shooting on the 500 block of Glendale Street but police say they had

the community finally provided tips that lead them to the suspect.
Police say Cannon allegedly committed the shooting less than 24
hours after being released from prison. Cannon is already

saw him. According to the jail records, Taylor was emitting “a
strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” his speech was slurred and
his eyes bloodshot while he reportedly coaxed the boy to go to the
pig barn, frightening the child. Taylor was already wanted by the
law on warrants charging him with failure to notify authorities that
he had changed addresses and a parole violation. He was convicted in
2013 of gross sexual imposition against
a child under 13 with sexual motivation. |

Atlanta Police say Smith witnessed the shooting where one victim was taken to Grady Hospital in critical condition. That victim later died at the hospital. During that shooting investigation, officers were dispatched nearby to a vehicle accident at the ramp onto I-285 from MLK Jr. Drive. Officers say the driver of the vehicle was shot in the same location where the previous shooting had happened and fled the scene before crashing near the exit ramp. He was pronounced dead at the scene. |

Thomas, who lived near the now-40-year-old man in the Brooklyn

ankles. A crude sketch of a chair designed to restrain women during
sexual encounters was later found in Govan’s possession, and
prosecutors argued that the ligature marks on Thomas matched the
design of the chair — which he called a “sex pod” in journal
entries.Govan, a Jehovah’s Witness, was arrested in 2016 after his DNA was found on fingernail clippings from Thomas, as cold case investigators reviewed old cases. He claims he never knew Thomas. Govan, who faces up to life in prison for the slaying, is still awaiting trial for the 2005 murder and dismemberment of 19-year-old relative Rashawn Brazell. Brazell, who was gay, lived across the street from Govan before he disappeared. The victim attempted to call for help using her medical alert bracelet, however, when the agent made contact, Livingston took over the conversation and told them everything was fine. Before he left the residence, Livingston stole cash and the victim’s watch. |

Police say Marche was at home with a family member when one of the suspects attempted to break in. Police say Marche confronted Byron and Taron and then went back inside the home. He then went back out and confronted them again, and that’s when, police say, Taron shot Marche in the back of the head. |

said, “I have to make a confession” — then admitted to chopping off
his girlfriend’s head four years ago, authorities said Friday.
Ricky Gonzalez, 34, told First Precinct cops Tuesday
that he fatally stabbed 58-year-old Maria
Quinones inside their Bushwick, Brooklyn,
apartment in 2014 in a dispute over money. He said he then
dismembered her body and disposed of it in the garbage, according to
court documents.Gonzalez told police he followed Quinones that day into the bathroom of the apartment they shared on Wilson Avenue near Himrod Street and plunged a large knife into her chest while standing behind her, according to the documents. Gonzalez then dragged her body into the bathtub and grabbed a butcher knife and blade sharpener, he said. He beheaded Quinones’ corpse, chopped off her hands and feet and cut her torso into two pieces, according to the documents. He then stuffed her body parts into trash bags and put the sacks out on the curb to be picked up for garbage collection, authorities said. Gonzalez and Quinones had met in a drug-treatment program, police sources said. |

attack of a woman for $75,000 appeared to have texted a "go signal"
to launch the robbery, court documents reveal.Shelby Taylor Wyse faced a judge on Wednesday after being arrested and jailed on second-degree felony charges of robbery. The constable's office said she was working at the Wallis State Bank off FM 1960 where the victim withdrew the $75,000 on August 17, the day of the robbery. The victim was taking the money to her family's gas station and check cashing business on 290 near Telge Road, when officials say she was ambushed by two more suspects in the case, Travonn Johnson and Davis Dowell Mitchell. Both men have already been charged. Wyse is "dating" Johnson. Over the weekend, Johnson was identified as the suspect who drove up during the robbery in a black 2018 Chrysler 300, authorities say. "She was followed from the bank to the business by these two robbers who drove in separate cars," said Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman. Authorities say they used surveillance video to get the license plate of the Chrysler, which was registered to Budget car rental. Officers discovered that Wyse was the leaseholder and video clearly showed her renting the vehicle. Wyse allegedly told officers the car had been stolen that morning, but she never reported the theft. |

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) — Two more suspects wanted in connection with the
shooting of two Camden County detectives have been arrested on
Tuesday. Authorities tell CBS3 that Alexander Dejesus and Ammar
Hall were captured by United States Marshals Fugitive Task
Force in Philadelphia. Juan Figueroa, who was arrested last
weekend, was also involved in the shooting, said investigators.
“Hall was on a street corner when he was taken into custody and

Hawk Co. jury selected in Liggins murder trial WATERLOO — On Sept. 17, 1990, 9-year-old Jennifer Lewis was excitedly telling anyone who would listen about her upcoming birthday in four days. However, the Rock Island girl never saw her 10th birthday. “Later that day on September 17, 1990, her burning body was discovered on the Jefferson (Elementary) School grounds in Davenport, Iowa,” Scott County Attorney Mike Walton told a Black Hawk County jury Thursday. The girl, who was burned beyond recognition, was manually strangled to death. She also had blunt-force injuries to her pelvis and rectum, Walton said. The discovery of Lewis’ body kicked off a massive, multi-state investigation that ultimately led to Stanley Liggins, the man prosecutors say killed and sexually abused her and set her body on fire. Walton laid out his case in a lengthy opening statement on the first day of testimony in Liggins’ trial. Liggins, 56, is charged with first-degree murder in Lewis’ death. Walton and his co-counsel, Assistant Scott County Attorney Julie Walton, allege Liggins either killed Lewis with premeditation or killed her while committing a forcible felony, such as sexual abuse or kidnapping. Liggins was tried in 1993 and 1995 and convicted both times. Both convictions were overturned. trading ahead of four acquisition announcements from 2013 to 2015,
officials said. Damilare Sonoiki, a former partner at
a global investment bank headquartered in New York City, is also
facing insider trading charges for receiving kickbacks from
Kendricks, including Eagles tickets and other perks, officials said.
Both Kendricks and Sonoiki are charged with conspiracy to commit
securities fraud and committing securities fraud, according to
investigators. The charges carry a maximum 25-year prison sentence

are searching for a Philadelphia youth basketball coach accused of
punching a referee during a game earlier this month. Antjuan Hart,

assault on a sports official. After the referee made a call against his team, Hart became unruly, Simpson told NBC10 he called the game in the final minutes due to Hart's behavior. (WLS) -- Chicago police said a man has been charged in the severe
beating and sexual assault of a woman in the city's West Town
neighborhood Monday morning. Rufus Carson, 37, is charged
with aggravated criminal sexual assault causing bodily harm,
aggravated kidnapping with the intent to inflict harm, and
aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, all felonies. Police
said Carson was taken into custody. Police said he was identified
through CTA surveillance. The sexual assault occurred at about 7

Line station, grabbed her from behind and pulled her into an alley
