LOUIS • With jurors picked and lawyers ready to begin a double
murder trial here, a Jennings man admitted he fatally shot two men
and wounded a third at a Forest Park Southeast apartment two years
ago. The seated jurors watched Tuesday afternoon as Miquis
Crumble, 21, accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 45
years in prison. He pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree
murder — reduced from first-degree — assault and three counts of
armed criminal action.Crumble admitted killing Huston Martin IV, 41, and his friend Cory Goodwin, 38, on Aug. 7, 2016, at Martin’s apartment. He also admitted to charges of shooting Martin’s brother, Clinton Martin, in the finger, mouth and chest, leaving him bleeding on a couch in the apartment for nearly 20 hours, in and out of consciousness, before he was found. Circuit Judge Mark Neill sentenced Crumble to concurrent 30-year prison terms for the murders and a consecutive 15-year sentence for shooting Clinton Martin, who survived. The previous night, Huston Martin talked by phone to Crumble while out at a nightclub with Goodwin and his brother, court records say. Crumble, who had a key and sometimes stayed at Martin’s apartment, was seen on surveillance going inside about five minutes before the Martin brothers and Goodwin returned home from the nightclub, about 1:40 a.m. The surveillance showed Crumble leave the apartment about two hours later. Charges said no one else entered or left the apartment until the victims were found several hours later. Crumble’s motive for murder isn’t clear, though a prosecutor said he had been in an on-and-off-again relationship with Huston Martin and that there was tension between them over a woman. Clinton Martin, who would have testified against Crumble, said Tuesday didn’t know the reasons for the attack but believes the mother of Crumble’s child urged him to do the shooting. (CBS) – Philadelphia police are searching for a man they say spit
on a Wendy’s employee and threatened to break the drive-thru
window with a socket wrench after an employee had trouble hearing
the man’s order. Police say the aggravated assault happened at the
Wendy’s restaurant at 2940 Fox Street in the city’s Nicetown neighborhood,
just before 2 a.m. on Aug. 6.The man attempted to place an order but the employee had a hard time hearing him so another employee came to help. That’s when police say the suspect lost his cool and began cursing. The suspect then drove around, got out of his vehicle and spit on the employee through the drive-thru window. When employees locked the drive-thru window, the suspect became enraged and continued to yell, spit, and bang on the window. He then pulled out a large socket wrench and threatened to break out the window, said police. The man then fled the area. The suspect is described as a black male, late 20s to early 30s, medium complexion, beard, thin hair, athletic build, wearing a dark-colored shirt with a “Batman” logo on the front, dark shorts, and operating an older silver Buick Sedan. |

Avenue. Video allegedly shows Johnson getting out of a Nissan Rogue

Tenn. — A local man reportedly threatened to kill officers and
attacked a woman after his mother refused to give him 2. Police
first responded to the Barron Avenue home early Saturday morning
after Bryan Harris allegedly vandalized his mother’s home.
The victim told police it all started after she refused to give the
man $2. He then went to the southwest bedroom door, kicked the door
down and broke the glass in the backdoor. He then grabbed the
woman’s lawnmower and took off. Two hours later, Harris reportedly
returned and tried to start a fight with the mother. Another woman
inside the home intervened and that’s when Harris allegedly picked
up a rock and broke the rear and front windows of his mother’s car.Not backing down, the second woman told him to stop. Harris reportedly slammed her to the ground and bit her on top of the head. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. But the suspect’s fit of rage didn’t end there. Once taken into custody, Harris repeatedly tried to kick out the windows and doors of the squad car, officers said. He was then taken to the Regional Medical Center where he resisted officers and staff. At one point, he even threatened the officers saying he would shoot and kill each of them as soon as he gets out of jail. Queens man stabbed the mother of his children in an early morning
attack Tuesday, cops said. Juan Portoviejo, 33, is
wanted for stabbing his ex-girlfriend multiple times in the neck and
torso, police said. The 31-year-old victim was on her way home from
work and had exited a livery cab just before 5 a.m. when her
crazed ex attacked, police said. The woman was rushed to Elmhurst
Hospital with injuries including a punctured
lung and slit throat, but is expected to survive. Portoviejo
came after her previously Aug. 13 — again as she exited a taxi
coming home from work — and choked her after she tried to leave him,
officials said. He has been arrested once before, on July 26 of this
year for driving while intoxicated. The pair has two children

suspects charged in deadly home invasion in Madison County   COTTAGE
HILLS, Ill. (KMOV.com) –Two suspects are facing charges after a man
died after being shot during an apparent home invasion in Madison
County late Thursday night. Bradley Payne, 29, and Kevin Bernard
Payne, 31, both of Cahokia are both charged with first-degree
murder, armed robbery and home invasion. Bradley has also been
charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Madison County Sheriff’s Office officials said Damian M. Huber, of Brighton, Illinois, was visiting someone in the 150 block of Oak Street in Cottage Hills when he was shot around 11 p.m. After being shot, the 24-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died as a result of his injuries. - (Black-on-white) |

second person has been indicted in the 2016 killing of a Springfield
man. Khalil Gaines, 23, has been indicted on charges of
second-degree murder, armed criminal action and attempted drug
possession in connection with the March 2016 killing of 18-year-old
Landon Bays. Friday's arrest comes weeks after prosecutors announced 35-year-old Chad Murphy had been indicted on a murder charge in the case. Police say Bays was found lying on the side of West Catalpa Street in Springfield with a gunshot wound on March 11, 2016. He later died at the hospital. The grand jury indictment does not provide many details but paints the homicide as a drug deal gone bad. Bernardino Police Arrest (black) Gunman in Triple Shooting That
Left 2 (white) Women Dead, 1 Injured   Police
arrested a man in connection with a triple shooting in San
Bernardino on Friday that left his ex-girlfriend and another
woman dead, and a third woman wounded. Nimeone King was
arrested walking in the area of 7th Street and Medical Center Drive,
several hours after the deadly shooting that was reported
around 7:30 a.m. in the 100 block of West Wabash Street, the
San Bernardino Police Department said in a news release. At
the time of his arrest, police said King was in possession of a
partially loaded firearm. First-responders discovered the two
women suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at
the scene. Police identified the women as Valerie Vajda, 37, (Hungarian) who was previously in a relationship with King for about one year, and 61-year-old Darlene Franken. A 50-year-old woman also suffered a minor graze wound and was treated and released from the hospital. |

man was arrested after police say he grabbed
a young girl, assaulted her mother then exposed himself
to them as they walked to school Monday morning. The incident
happened at 7:37 a.m. on the 400 block of Hilo Drive near
Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood. The mother told responding officers
she was walking her 6-year-old daughter to school when she was
approached by a man police identified as 46-year-old Ronnie
Darrel Carr. The mother said Carr grabbed the young girl by
the arm and pulled on her, the report states. When the mother
grabbed her daughter away from Carr, police say he assaulted the
mother then walked away. However, investigators say Carr
walked back to the scene and exposed himself to the victims.
Responding officers found Carr nearby and took him to police
headquarters for questioning. |

shooting after 'vicious, violent robbery'   CINCINNATI,
OH (FOX19) - A series of events following a "vicious and violent
robbery" left the suspect dead and Cincinnati police officer
wounded, according to Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac. The man
shot and killed on Friday, Aug. 24, by Cincinnati police officers
was identified by Chief Isaac as 20-year-old James Clay. According
to police, on Wednesday, Aug. 22, an
employee at the Boost Mobile store in Walnut Hills was attacked
by Clay. "It was a very vicious and violent robbery... an
unprovoked attack upon the clerk." Two days later, Officers were serving Clay with a felony warrant for the robbery. "The immediately encountered Clay and he began to pull away – with a 'Taser' drawn he was warned he’d be 'tased' if he did not comply." Clay pulled what appeared to be a pistol and two officers discharged their weapons shooting Clay multiple times. It was later revealed the weapon was a steel pellet gun. “To take this action with a pellet gun against police officers (was stupid and/or suicidal). Police said 16 shots were fired. Clay was pronounced dead at the scene. The family said that Clay had mental health issues and it has been an ongoing struggle for them, |

restaurant that’s geared towards kids. The chaos inside the "Go
Bananas" in Norridge was posted online, and now
thousands of people are asking for it to be closed. The wild fight
happened over the weekend as many kids played nearby. No one was
arrested, but it’s still enough for the village president to seek a
face-to-face meeting with the restaurant’s owner. On social media,
the video has been seen nearly 150-thousand times. It shows a fight
between at least four adults. At one point, a woman uses a mop as a
weapon. Go Bananas’ website bills it as "the finest indoor
family amusement center in the Chicagoland area." But the
Chicago Tribune reports that between April 2015 and May 2016, police
were called to the venue nearly 30 times, with accusations
ranging from fighting to counterfeit money. |

station  An
Uptown man has been charged with stabbing a woman Saturday morning
inside a South Side CTA Red Line station. Ricky McMahon, 32,
is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder in the alleged
attack at the 95th/Dan Ryan station at 14 W. 95th St., according to
Chicago police. McMahon is accused of stabbing a woman in the back,
wrist and legs about 7:15 a.m. Saturday, police said. Officers
chased him to a nearby bus shelter and arrested him. Officers
recovered a knife that he was holding, police said. A “life-saving”
tourniquet was applied to the woman, who remained in serious
condition Sunday evening at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
McMahon has a previous weapons conviction stemming from a 2003
arrest, is due in bond court on Monday. |

Found in Sippy Cup  A
Pittsburgh woman is facing a homicide charge after authorities said
the narcotic fentanyl was found in her toddler daughter's pink
sippy cup following the child's death. Twenty-three-year-old Jhenea
Pratt was charged Friday in Allegheny County with criminal
homicide and child endangerment in the death of 17-month-old
Charlette Napper-Talley.Police responding to a 911 call in April found the toddler not breathing, and she was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Authorities said in a criminal complaint that an autopsy that included three separate blood screenings found a lethal amount of fentanyl in her blood. They said Pratt told them she had "no clue'' how the drug ended up in the beverage. |

felony injury to the elderly and being held at the Henderson County
Jail in Athens on a $50,000 bond. Tommy Lee Anderson,

restraint and free on $15,000 bond. A police affidavit says the
victim approached a Malakoff police officer and said she had
been staying with the woman, to whom she was related, and her
boyfriend when the ordeal began in January. Other relatives

(WLS) -- A Chicago Public Schools teaching assistant has been
charged with sexually assaulting a
13-year-old student. Ayisha Sims, 37, worked

Officials said the assaults occurred between December 2009 and
December 2011. Sims has been charged with one felony count of
criminal sexual assault of a victim 13-17. |

Prattville man has been sentenced to almost five years in federal
prison for illegally possessing a firearm and shooting and killing
a pregnant cow. Byron Jamar Esco, 30, received a

Franklin Sr. announced. On Nov. 29, Esco, who had
been recently released from state prison, was driving his
vehicle along country roads near Hope Hull, Franklin said As
he drove, Esco, “unprovoked,” pointed a 9 mm. handgun at a cow
grazing in a field. Esco then fired the weapon and killed the
cow, which was pregnant at the time, Franklin said. The cow’s owner
observed Esco’s vehicle and reported the shooting to law enforcement

So far, four victims have come forward recently, and deputies believe at least three to four others have been assaulted. Deputies are not expecting further charges at this time because most victims are unwilling to testify, Dance said. |

HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are searching for a suspect who
attempted to rape a woman at the entrance of a building in East
Harlem. The NYPD says the man entered the 22-year-old woman's
vestibule early Saturday morning in the vicinity of East 128 Street
and 5th Avenue and tried to grab her buttocks. He then
attempted to grab her throat and subdue her. After the woman fought
back, the man took off eastbound on East 128 Street towards Madison
Avenue. The victim suffered a small cut on her chest but refused
medical attention. The NYPD describes the suspect as a black
male, 30 to mid 30's, approximately 6'1"to 6'2, 190lbs to

Applying a tourniquet with a t-shirt, NYPD cops managed to save a
woman who was nearly hacked to death by her ex-boyfriend
— and then helped catch the man as he was attempting to flee the
country, sources said. “When we arrived at the scene, my partner was
the first to see the victim on the ground bleeding,” Officer Steve
Yankowski told reporters on Monday afternoon at the 49th Precinct
station house in Morris Park. “She was laying on her back in the
hallway,” he said, referring to the victim. “It was a lot of blood,
spread on the door of the apartment she came out of.”The woman, 24, was at her Bronx apartment with her two young children when her 32-year-old ex — Wilson Rojas, 32, of Fordham — showed up and attacked her, according to police. She was stabbed several times, suffering deep wounds to her upper left arm, her upper chest and under her left armpit, cops said. Sources said they learned that he was looking to catch a flight to the Dominican Republic from JFK. Menifee man is accused of forcing sex acts upon an
underage boy he met online and allegedly offered
to other men for sex, and authorities are searching for any
additional victims the defendant may have met the same way.David Everett Leibowitz, 40, has been charged with nine felony counts including sodomy by force or duress, oral copulation by force or duress and inducing or persuading a minor to engage in a commercial sex act, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Inmate records show he is also charged with false imprisonment, child abduction, sexual penetration with a minor under 18, lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and sending or possessing obscene material. Leibowitz allegedly met the victim through a dating website in 2015, when the victim was under 18 years old. He subsequently committed multiple violent sex acts with the minor, according to prosecutors. Officials also allege that he would invite other men over to his home to have sex with the victim. The defendant was previously convicted in 2004 of committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14 in Riverside County Superior Court. |

confrontation, told NBC10 the ordeal began when one of his
friends began fighting another man. Then a third man armed

gunman then called police and kept one of the men from leaving

convenience store robbery on Saturday was out of prison on early
release following a 2012 attempted armed robbery conviction in Hinds

a cashier at the CEFCO convenience store on Mississippi 16 west, and
Jeremy Apperson, a man in the parking
lot who exchanged gunfire with the suspect, were shot dead while
another man drove himself to the hospital, according to Philadelphia
police.In a Facebook post on Saturday night, Apperson's wife Samantha wrote that their girls had gone to a birthday party and that she and Jeremy and their son went for drinks and gasoline at the convenience store. “While Jeremy was pumping gas a man walked up to my driver window and pointed a handgun at my face,” she wrote. “Jeremy saw and pulled his concealed pistol hitting the man once. The man fired an array of bullets hitting Jeremy and the shots were fatal.” The suspect, Robert Leon Jackson, 30, of 224 Manship St., Jackson, is in custody, police said. “He was running around the parking lot with a gun, witnesses said,” according to Philadelphia Police Chief Grant Myers. Police received a call at about 5:30 p.m. and when officers arrived two were dead and, thanks to witnesses, officers were quickly able to locate the suspect near the motels west of the store after he fled on foot. Myers said one of the responding police officers was related to Apperson. The suspect was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Jackson was sentenced to 15 years in 2012 in Hinds County. Neb. (KOLN) - Authorities have arrested three individuals believed
to be responsible for the murder of a Lincoln woman during a home
invasion last month. The Lincoln Police Department said in a release
that with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies across the
country, three arrests have been made in the July 31st homicide of
36-year-old Jessica Brandon.On Friday, 25-year-old Dante D. Williams was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, while 26-year-old Damon D. Williams Jr. and 25-year-old Tawhyne M. Patterson were arrested in Texas. All are currently booked on murder charges. Patterson and Williams Jr. are lodged in Texas awaiting extradition. In addition, the Chief of Police reveled there was an additional break-in attempt at the home the day before Brandon was murdered. He said surveillance footage captured four people attempting to get into the home on July 30, but were unsuccessful. The following night, July 31, the three arrested suspects returned and gained entry to the home. It has not been determined who pulled the trigger during the murder, police said. On July 31, LPD said the suspects forced their way into a home in the 1900 Block of Fairfield Street and killed Brandon. Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said previously the crime was not a random act. LPD responded to reports of gunshots around 3:45 a.m. the night of murder. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a woman had been shot, and family members were performing life-saving measures on the victim. LPD said four children and three adults were in the home at the time of the shooting, including the victim. One of the adults was Brandon’s significant other, Michael Robertson. According to an affidavit, Lincoln Police say Robertson hid drugs inside a shed after Brandon was shot and before authorities got on scene. The affidavit says Robertson was observed on video cameras carrying a cooler and duffel bag into a shed in the back yard before Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived at the home. Police later found 2.89 pounds of marijuana, marijuana edibles with high levels of THC concentrate and $85,800 in the cooler and duffel bag. POINT — A 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in
the death of a pregnant woman in early August. Police said in a news
release that charges were brought against Jonas Thompson due

Ray at 701 Thissell St. on Aug. 6. Ray was seven
to eight months pregnant. Her unborn child did not
survive.The shooting happened at a family member of Ray's home. That relative, Corey Ray, was injured in the shooting. Thompson was arrested Sunday in the 600 block of Vail Avenue without incident. In addition to the murder charge, he is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury in the shooting of Corey Ray. desecration of human remains after they left a body to rot in an

The 45-year-old said he was sitting in the Medford, Oregon, federal courthouse on Wednesday for the sentencing hearing for Donald Courtney Biggs, 40, when he rushed Biggs and punched him. and confessed to the killings, Crittenden’s younger half brother,
Bryant Jones, said.Jones said Crittenden confided in him about killing Dr. William Chiapella, 68, and Katherine Chiapella, 67, before Crittenden, then 19, was arrested as a suspect in the high-profile homicide case in January 1987. Jones, who recently sat down for an interview with this newspaper at his home in Folsom, said Crittenden told him details about the slayings only the “killer would know” while Crittenden was visiting family at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. “Steve totally confided in me,” Jones, now 49, said. “Totally. Right before he went back to Chico.” Jones said he contacted this newspaper because he did not believe recent articles about Crittenden’s retrial process have provided a full picture about Crittenden’s life. He also said he wanted to send a message pressuring the Butte County District Attorney’s Office to hold Crittenden to account for his alleged crimes. “Nobody really knows Steve, you know. I know Steve. I know what kind of person he is. I know everything about him,” Jones said, adding, “Me and him shared the same room when we were kids, all the way up through our teen years. Steve has done — he’s done so much wrong.” Crittenden was convicted in 1989 of murder and sentenced to death in the killing of the Chiapellas, whose bodies were found tied up, gagged and brutally stabbed and beaten on Jan. 17, 1987, in their Chico home. But Crittenden’s conviction was later overturned by a federal district court that found the original prosecutor, Gerald Flanagan, was substantially motivated by race when he excluded the only potential black juror at Crittenden’s trial. While Schultz called the health center immediately after the reported incident, he booked the appointment three weeks later due to feeling ashamed to admit the reason for his appointment. By the time he went in, all evidence of rape was gone. However, the Daily News said it spoke to a friend and a therapist who confirmed Schultz's story and said he told them what happened at the time. Blakney heard Thursday morning when he was sentenced for his
role in the murder of a 64-year-old man. The killing stunned a Lake
Wylie neighborhood three years ago when David
Doyle was found dead inside his house. From the evidence the
jury heard, Doyle had been tortured. Police say the house
was ransacked. Prosecutors say the victim's body was tied at the
hands and feet. The medical examiner says Doyle had multiple
bruising, several broken bones. There was evidence of burning,
stabbing and strangulation. Police arrested Blakney, Tardra Bouknight and Peter Gould and charged them with first-degree murder, kidnapping, burglary and common law robbery. Gould pleaded guilty in 2016 and was expected to cooperate with prosecutors. Blakney had a trial back in May. Prosecutors say the motive was robbery. Gould testified but the jury couldn't reach a verdict. The District Attorney's Office decided to re-try the case. |

arrested in the case. Wyse is accused of sending a message to
tip off Johnson and Mitchell that a
woman had withdrawn $75,000. The unidentified woman

two thieves -- identified by police as Johnson and Mitchell -- from
the bank to a gas station her family reportedly owned. Surveillance
video showed Wyse watching the woman withdraw the cash, then send a
text message to Johnson that officials believe was a “go signal.”In another video, taken at the gas station, the thief cops say is Mitchell is seen attacking the woman and attempting to rip her purse away. The woman’s husband, who was in the store at the time, then runs out and attempts to stop the robbery. It's at this point, prosecutors say, Johnson arrived and began beating the couple. the rear view of the glass, and I see the guy masturbating,” Harris

Deadly Police-Involved Shooting  PHILADELPHIA
(CBS) — Jeffrey Dennis, 36, was shot and killed Monday
afternoon by an undercover narcotics Philadelphia police officer.
Police say the narcotics officers were conducting surveillance and
preparing to serve a search warrant at Dennis’ home in the 7100
block of Cottage Street when they spotted him driving a black Toyota
Camry tied to the investigation. Police say six undercover officers,
two in each of three unmarked vehicles, used their cars to block
Dennis in on Hegerman Street. Investigators say after Dennis did not
comply with the officers’ commands to shut the Camry’s vehicle off
and started striking the barricaded vehicles. One officer used a
tool to shatter the driver’s door window.Police say Dennis continued to maneuver his car away from the officers and then struck an officer. That’s when police say that officer shot Dennis three times, killing him. |
Archdiocese
of NY paid nearly $60M to sex abuse victims in two years The
Archdiocese of New York has paid out close to $60 million to sexual
abuse victims in the past two years, a spokesman told The Post.
So far, 278 victims — including a teen molested by a perverted
priest at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx in
the early 1980s — have been paid $59,950,000 through the
archdiocese’s Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program.
