SchwabNEW ROCHELLE, New York (WABC) -- A makeshift memorial has been erected outside of the Dunkin' Donuts in Westchester County where a 16-year old girl was fatally stabbed Wednesday afternoon. Candles and flowers have been carefully placed alongside a photo of the victim with the words, "In loving memory of Valaree Schwab." Schwab was stabbed twice with a steak knife during a dispute involving five or six New Rochelle High School students. Police say the melee lasted 10 minutes and spanned several blocks of North Avenue. The teen was a self-described anarchist who friends say was picked on because of her appearance, and her outspokenness. Police have charged 16-year old Z'inah Brown with second-degree murder. She turned herself in after police publicly identified her. - (Black-on-white) |

Pa. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in prison in
a Pennsylvania crash earlier this year that killed two people,
including a pregnant woman. Twenty-two-year-old Evaughn-Sha
Walters of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty in October to
vehicular homicide in the Feb. 4 crash in West Pottsgrove Township.
Twenty-two-year-old Shone Santiago of New York City pleaded
guilty to two counts of third-degree murder and one count of
third-degree murder of an unborn child. Montgomery County
prosecutors said he was racing Walters on Route 422 when his car
went out of control, killing 23-year-old Anthony
Rodriguez of East Elmhurst, New York, and 20-year-old Marissa
Kelly of Stroudsburg. In court Tuesday, Walters
apologized to family members in attendance for what he called his
“stupid” decision. Santiago is awaiting sentencing.

wife of an NYPD officer assassinated in Harlem 47 years ago is
getting ready to demand — again — that her her husband’s killer
remain behind bars. “Tomorrow morning, when I give my statement, my
mind will be back in 1971,” Diane Piagentini
told The Post from the Deer Park home she once shared with her
husband, Joseph. “My two daughters will be here and we will
give our statements.” Herman Bell, who is serving 25 years
to life, has in the past insisted that he has expressed remorse for
the shooting deaths of Officers Piagentini
and Waverly Jones and has been a model prisoner. But the widow
said she still believes the killer would have hate in his heart for
cops. Bell was one of three men to gun down Piagenti and Jones. One
accomplice died in prison and the other is up for parole in June.

Bronx (WABC) - The NYPD says the man they arrested for allegedly
stalking and sexually assaulting a woman who gets around with a
walker is a level 3 sex offender. Unga Smith, 40, was
identified by neighbors from the surveillance video released by
police Tuesday night. Smith is charged with rape, robbery, burglary,
criminal sex act, and sexual abuse. He is set to be arraigned on
those charges Thursday. The 64-year-old victim was followed for some
time, with the suspect eventually entering her building and riding
the elevator with her. Police say he pushed his way into her
apartment and dragged her to the bedroom, where she was sexually
assaulted. |

Rogers man arrested in connection with Bentonville robbery
 BENTONVILLE
-- Police arrested a Rogers man in connection with a Saturday early
morning robbery and possibly several others in Northwest Arkansas. Christopher
Curry, 48, of 311 N. 35th St. was booked into the Benton
County Jail about noon Saturday.Police were called at 4:28 a.m. to a robbery at Casey's General Store at 2801 S.E. J St., according to a Bentonville Police news release. The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Bentonville police connected a silver Chrysler 300 to the crime and stopped the car on Southeast Walton Boulevard. Curry was driving and the only person in the vehicle. He was arrested in connection with three counts of aggravated robbery, according to the release. |

Tenn. -- Police say a man went on a shooting spree in North
Nashville, killing two young sisters and then carjacked and killed
an elderly man. The suspected gunman's stepmother, girls' mother,
suffered non-lifethreatening wound, police said.Metro Police arrested 24-year-old Queshan Brooks on Friday. Brooks has been charged with three counts of murder along with multiple other charges, CBS Nashville affiliate WTVF reports. The Tennessean reports Brooks first opened fire on his stepmother and her two daughters around 4:15 p.m. at their home. The girls, 5-year-old Samaii Daniel and 8-year-old Sammarre Daniel, died from gunshot wounds to the head. WTVF reports that just minutes after the shooting, the suspect allegedly carjacked two men in a gold Chevrolet Impala. During the carjacking, the suspect allegedly shot the driver and the passenger. The driver, identified as 70-year-old Robert Payne, died and the passenger, identified as 52-year-old Patrick Hancock, was pistol whipped and shot in the arm. He was last listed in critical condition. |

The guilty plea was part of an agreement that dismissed the other
charges against him and guaranteed he would not face the death

Roane would set up meetings for the girl around Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Jonesboro. The affidavit also states that Roane kidnapped the girl and would be in control of the girl's phone and money. YORK (FOX5NY) - Police in New York say a man armed with a gun tried
to steal the coat right off of a teen walking down the street.
Police say it happened about 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning in
Brooklyn. The 16-year-old boy was walking down 61st St. when the man
came up behind him, pulled a gun and demanded his coat. The
victim refused and a struggle ensued. Police say the man hit the
teen with the gun numerous times. The victim suffered lacerations to
his face and head as a result of the attack. The guy didn't get the
coat and ended up running away empty handed. Police describe the
suspect as black, 5'10"; last seen wearing a beige jacket, a

home and raped her, police said. The woman, who uses a walker, was
headed home to her apartment around 6:30 p.m. Monday near the corner

began pursuing her, cops said. Once the woman arrived, the man
pushed her inside and sexually assaulted her, officials said. Police

BEAST faces attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking a
woman with a machete. “It's pretty scary yes,” said Carl Mcmahon.
Mcmahon is staying at Harbor Place in Shelburne. Harbor Place
provides temporary emergency housing with services, run by the
Champlain Housing Trust. Early Friday, police responded to calls of
a man with a knife smashing out car windows. “On arrival we found
that this person who was reported to have a knife, had actually
attacked an elderly female,” said Corporal Jon Marcoux of Shelburne
Police.That female, was a 73-year-old Meals on Wheels volunteer who was dropping off meals on the regular route. It is unclear what provoked the attack, but police say 32-year-old Abukar Ibrahim was the one with a machete. He attacked the woman who sustained multiple injuries. She was sent to the hospital, and later released. “He barricaded himself in the room. After two and a half hours, he came out on his own,” said Marcoux. |

Barriss, who they allege made a "swatting" call on the evening

The Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice
revoked their first naturalized citizenship as part of a new
collaborative immigration review effort. According to the Justice
Department, Baljinder
Singh, also known as Davinder Singh, arrived in
San Francisco in 1991 without any travel documents or proof of
identity. Singh failed to appear for his immigration hearing in 1992
and was soon deported. He returned four weeks later and filed
an asylum application. Singh abandoned his asylum application and married
a U.S. citizen who filed a visa petition on his behalf. In
2006, he was able to naturalize under the name Baljinder Singh, and

The Supreme Court sent the case of a black death row inmate who was
convicted, in part, by a juror who used a racial slur to describe
him, back to the lower courts Monday, after finding that prior
decisions to not allow for an appeal based on the issue were in
error. Keith Tharpe was convicted of murder in 1991 and
sentenced to the death penalty after allegedly
raping his estranged wife and killing his sister-in-law the
year prior. Attorneys for Tharpe argued that a member of the jury,
Barney Gattie, was influenced by Tharpe's race and that he used the
n-word in reference to Tharpe. |

According to court documents, the woman told police Jackson locked the doors of the cab, took her phone from her and raped her before dropping her off on Collins Street. Duluth
restaurant owner, (black live-in) boyfriend arrested on arson
for fire at alehouse 
 The
owner of a Duluth alehouse and her live-in boyfriend have been
arrested in connection with an arson fire that happened earlier in
the week at the restaurant. Delilah Marie Smith, 57, and
Jerome Walker, 46, were arrested Friday night and booked
into the Gwinnett County Jail. Each face charges of first-degree
arson and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
“Through subsequent investigation,
inconsistencies surfaced in the information that was being
provided by business owner Delilah Marie Smith, age 57 of Duluth
and her live-in boyfriend Jerome Walker, age 46 of Duluth,”
Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a statement.
Smith and Walker remained in the jail
Saturday night and no bail amount was listed. Rutledge said fire
investigators believe financial issues may have been a
“substantial motive” in the case. Firefighters were called to
Pepperoni’s Duluth Alehouse on Peachtree Industrial Boulev(ard at
12:21 a.m. Jan. 2, but the fire was already out when firefighters
arrived. The fire caused moderate damage to the restaurant, but it
was put out by water from a melted water line that connected to a
fountain drink machine.

attacked her, sexually assaulted her, and robbed her of her cash and
cell phone. The man then fled westbound, according to police. The

got another shot at life due to a new set of state laws that

Kenner Police said Brooks has a 51-page criminal history in Jefferson Parish alone. Since his Nov. 16 release, Brooks was arrested four times for charges including theft and battery of a police officer. after midnight on New Year's Day, court records show.The victim, Kayla Viars, 27, of Loudon, Tenn. and the alleged shooter, 26-year-old Marques Dewayne Wheeler, were both passengers in a Nissan Altima being driven by Dominick Brown when the gun went off at approximately 12:15 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest warrant. "All parties were riding around Market Square when (Wheeler) began playing with a .22-caliber handgun that he accidentally fired, striking the victim, Viars, who was the front seat passenger, in the back," the warrant states. Brown drove to East Tennessee Children's Hospital in nearby Fort Sanders, where Viars was dropped off, police said. Viars, a mother of four, was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival at the emergency room. Brown was identified as a person of interest in the case by police, who located him Wednesday. Wheeler, of Knoxville, was taken in custody Thursday night hours after police named him as a suspect and asked for the public's help in locating him. Wheeler remained jailed in lieu of $40,000 bond Friday on a charge of reckless homicide. He is set to appear in court Feb. 1 for violation of probation on a previous DUI conviction. A former Maryland middle school aide and track coach accused of
sexually assaulting 42 juveniles pleaded guilty Friday to more than
two dozen charges of child sex abuse, officials said. The Charles
County State's Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Carlos Bell entered
the guilty plea to 27 counts. His trial on 206 child abuse offenses
had been set to begin Monday. Prosecutors say Bell abused boys at
his Waldorf home as well as at his workplace, Benjamin Stoddert
Middle School, between May 2015 and June 2017. The state's
attorney's office said the ages of the alleged victims
ranged from 11 to 17 years old. Police
said Bell allegedly assaulted students without wearing protection,
but investigators said they were not aware of any of the victims
testing positive for HIV. Authorities began investigating
Bell in December 2016 after a parent found inappropriate text
messages on her child's phone. At that time, Bell was removed from
his position as track coach at La Plata High School. In addition to
the alleged assaults, police said child pornography was found on
Bell's home computer and electronic devices. After Bell was arrested
in June, Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry said some of the "graphic
images" showed Bell having sex with students. Bell is scheduled to
be sentenced March 28. He faces up to 190 years in prison. |

charged in shooting death of (White) Milwaukee woman outside
workplace 
Three people have been charged in the shooting death of 53-year-old Karen Simek, who was shot outside her workplace last year. Last January, Simek was shot and killed shortly after parking her car outside Garden-Fresh Foods. Carl Knight has been charged with Simek's murder, and Samantha Gustafson and David McLaurin have been charged regarding the case as well. According to the criminal complaint, McLaurin was arrested for a crime unrelated to the murder in December. He said he and his roommates Knight and Gustafson needed rent money. Gustafson also told police the roommates talked about getting rent money by robbing people. McLaurin told police that Knight said he shot and killed an “older white lady on National,” and took her purse. Knight said he was pressured to commit the robberies by his roommates. summer, appeared in court. Logan Trice faces a murder charge. The assistant prosecutor said Trice surprised Richard Ray with a punch to the face on June 30 on Fairbanks Avenue. Ray fell to the ground, striking his head on the concrete. Ray was taken to UC Medical Center. He died two days later. Shortly after Ray's death, his sister said that it may have had something to do with drugs or he might have owed someone money.
