Madie Hart's final moments: 'An unimaginable way to die' - (White) woman dragged 88 ft under car driven by (black) woman A murder charge has been filed against Briana Benson, the woman who police said struck 18-year-old Madie Hart with a car in Downtown last month. Hart, a St. Ursula Academy graduate and Ohio State student, spent four days in the hospital before she died as a result of her injuries. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said in a news conference Monday two groups of women were fighting on the night of March 25. "Madie Hart was knee-deep in a physical fight... there's no question," Deter said. "That does not give anyone license to run someone over." He said Hart banged on the rear passenger side window and the hood of Benson's Nissan Sentra before she was struck. Deters showed footage from a city surveillance camera. The car was stopped on Walnut Street, then reverses and makes a hard right turn, which is when Deters said Hart was struck. He said Hart was dragged approximately 88 feet by the car as Benson drove away. Callers to 911 reported Hart was bleeding from her head. Deters said a passerby ran into the street assist Hart after Benson fled. "You need to get here now. I can’t watch this," one caller told the dispatcher. “There’s people screaming in the street.” Prior to the incident, Deters said Benson was driving around searching for Hart. "That's not someone trying to get home to mom," Deters said. According to the prosecutor's office, Benson was indicted on drug charges just days before the incident. Police said she was allowing her boyfriend to sell heroin from her car. Deters also said Benson has a long juvenile record and her mother once filed domestic violence charges against her. Benson has not yet been arrested. In addition to the murder charge, she was also indicted on felonious assault, aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after a crash charges. Hart was buried Wednesday. - (Black-on-white) |

She credits detectives with the unit for bringing her son’s killers to justice. "My son's life was taken for $20," said Karen Brill-Kelley. Feral Black African SOMALI SAVAGE Fargo teen who spent childhood in refugee camp gets 20 years for second sex assault FARGO — A Fargo teenager who endured a "feral" childhood in a refugee camp was sentenced Monday, April 10, to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting and terrorizing a young woman nearly four years ago. Abdirahman P. Sahel, who is believed to be 18 years old, approached two young female guests in the parking lot of the Fargo Holiday Inn in August 2013 and threatened them with a handgun before forcing one of the girls to perform a sexual act, prosecutor Cherie Clark said during Monday's sentencing hearing. Clark said the victim was traumatized by the attack, as was the young woman who witnessed the incident. The essence of the sentence—20 years behind bars—was endorsed by both Clark and Sahel's attorney, Monty Mertz. Sahel earlier pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition and terrorizing in connection with the attack. The sentence will be served at the same time as a 12-year sentence Sahel received after he was convicted at trial in September of attacking a woman in the parking lot of the West Acres Shopping Center in September 2014. In that case Sahel was convicted on charges of robbery, attempted kidnapping, terrorizing and simple assault. DNA collected from Sahel while he was in custody for the West Acres assault tied him to the Holiday Inn attack. Mertz said during Monday's sentencing hearing that Sahel will likely spend more than 15 years behind bars and when he gets out there is a strong chance he will be deported. The defense attorney called Sahel's situation a complex one, as it was possible Sahel was 14 when the crime at the hotel parking lot was committed. He said Sahel, who is from Somalia, lost his parents at a very early age and lived the "life of a feral child" in a refugee camp. - SEND THEM ALL BACK |

BLACK MUSLIM Oklahoma man in beheading case competent to plead guilty - (Black-on-white) A man charged with beheading a co-worker and trying to kill another co-worker at an Oklahoma food processing plant was found competent Thursday to plead guilty to murder. The ruling means that Alton Alexander Nolen, 32, could be sentenced next week, if he doesn't change his mind about pleading guilty. Nolen had announced in May 2016 that he wanted to plead guilty and be sentenced to death, but a Cleveland County District Court judge had ordered a mental evaluation to determine his competency. However, the defense did not meet their burden (of proving incompetence)." Authorities say Nolen launched the attack in September 2014 at Vaughan Foods in Moore shortly after the company suspended him for racial remarks.
