As the time-lapsed footage rolls, the first man disappears into the aisles and reemerges, heading for the counter to make a purchase. Last week, investigators with the Waterloo Police Department and Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers re-released the 13-year-old security video in hopes of jogging memories in the deaths of (an interracial couple). The first man is described as a black male with a large build. He is wearing a dark leather coat and a cap. The second is described as a black male, shorter and thinner than the first, wearing a dark-colored down-filled coat and a light-colored stocking cap. |

(white) Mother of severely beaten child handed maximum sentence in County Court (for failure to protect against black father) DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. – Whitley Sharp, 27, formerly of the 400 block of S. 13th Street, Harrisburg, is handed the maximum sentence permitted under the law for the charge of Endangering Welfare of Children. Judge John Cherry sentenced Sharp this morning to 3 ½ years to 7 years in a state penitentiary for failing to protect her five year old child. On March 2, the child was severely beaten by his father because of a potty accident. Sharp did not seek medical attention for the child, nor did she contact the authorities. When police went to the home two days after the assault, after the abuse was finally reported by another family member, she told the child to lie about what had happened to cause the injuries. Judge Cherry indicated that the evidence was overwhelming that the defendant failed to protect her child and that, in fact, she took efforts to protect the abuser. Co-defendant James Slaughter, III, is pending trial. |

(BLACK man) Keene Found Guilty Of Murder (of White man with pacemaker) Donald Ray Gunter's family believes justice was served Friday when a jury in Greene County Criminal Court found Mario Donte Keene guilty of first-degree murder for causing Gunter's death on Feb. 11, 2014. Keene will receive a life sentence totaling 60 years. The minimum amount of time the 42-year-old must serve before parole is considered will be 51 years. Keene was also convicted by the jury of especially aggravated burglary and especially aggravated kidnapping. He will also be sentenced for those felonies on Oct. 21. Jurors deliberated for about six hours Thursday afternoon and Friday morning before returning a guilty verdict on all counts. Co-defendant Amanda Kate Harris, 30, is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in May for her role in Gunter's death. Harris testified at trial for the state and said Keene was responsible for inflicting wounds on Gunter with a collapsible metal rod after she stole Gunter's money and tried to run out the back door. The motive was money for drugs. Harris and Keene needed cash to feed their habits. "Dope sick" Harris knew Gunter and had previously spent time at his Old Mountain Road house. Harris testified that Gunter let her in his house and wanted her to spend the night. When she tried to run out of the house with money she stole from him, the partially clothed Gunter pursued Harris and caught hold of her hair, causing her to slip on the porch. She screamed, and Keene came running. Harris testified that Keene ran up on the porch and struck Gunter in the face with a collapsible metal rod before dragging him into the house. Trial testimony established that Gunter recently had a pacemaker implanted in his chest and had survived several previous heart surgeries. |

(Black) Duo plead guilty in murders of (White) Lake Wylie couple CHARLOTTE, NC - A man who orchestrated the killings of a Lake Wylie couple while he was in jail has entered a guilty plea to federal charges. The man who pulled the trigger also admitted his guilt. Jamell Cureton and Malcolm Hartley were in federal court Wednesday afternoon. Both men answered in separate hearings “yes” or “yes sir” to federal District Judge Max Cogburn’s questions. Based on the factual basis entered in this case, Cureton and Hartley said they are guilty of being in a gang that worked together to silence the Londons after three gang members robbed the Londons’ mattress store. “It really is chilling,” U.S. Attorney, Jill Westmoreland Rose said after the hearings. “This is the thing that a community fears, right? That you’re a victim, then you do the right thing - you follow through with the process and then suddenly you’re targeted and killed because you’ve done the right thing.” According to court documents, Doug and Debbie London were killed at their home in Lake Wylie in October 2014 after Jamell Cureton ordered the killings through jailhouse phone calls and letters. Malcolm Hartley was promoted in the gang after he killed the Londons at their home. If the two men chose to go to trial versus the guilty pleas they could have faced the death penalty. Part of both of their plea agreements was that the attorney general would not pursue the death penalty in their cases. Hartley pleaded guilty to five federal charges, and Cureton pleaded guilty to ten federal charges. - (Black-on-white) |

Napoleon Harris Fights Off Black Muggers, Helps Catch Murder Suspects CHICAGO — A south suburban state lawmaker appears to have played a role in the capture of three murder suspects from Georgia after being the victim of a mugging earlier this month. Banks was also found guilty of three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a felon, according to a news release from Jackson County State's Attorney, Michael Carr. A Jackson County jury deliberated less than two hours before returning with a verdict. Jackson County deputies were called Jan. 14, 2014, to Potters Road in Makanda in response to a body discovered in a grassy embankment on the side of the road. (Black) Cab Driver Gets Jail Time After Shooting Boss PHILADELPHIA — The cabbie who shot his boss in the chest last October in Glenside is headed to prison. 34-year-old Ozzie Clark will spend 8-20 years in state prison. The sentence comes after, back in June, Clark pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder and robbery. Investigators say Clark drove a cab for Montco Transportation Services in Glenside. On October 16th, he shot his supervisor in the chest after an argument over $1,101.52 that Clark said he was owed. After he shot the man in the chest, he demanded the manager write him a check. While he waited for the check, he wouldn’t let anyone call for help. Clark was caught later that day in Philadelphia. The shooting victim survived, and testified at Clark’s sentencing. - (Black-on-white) |

Stolen pair of shoes at center of (black) Baton Rouge man's arrest, murder charge, police say A man accused of beating another man to death over a stolen pair of shoes was arrested Wednesday on a second-degree murder count. Edward Jones, 61, is accused of waking up the victim, Val Lachica, and blaming the man for taking his shoes just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 19, according to witnesses cited in a Baton Rouge Police report. The incident, at 1572 Gwen Drive, escalated into Jones sitting on Lachica, whose back was on the floor. Jones punched the victim in the face until he lost consciousness, the report says. Jones is physically larger than Lachica, according to the report. Lachica was transported to a hospital and died "from complications due to the blunt force trauma he sustained as a result of the battery he received from the Defendant," the report says. An obituary for Lachica, 58, says he died on Sept. 4. He "had a love for music, especially rock & roll. He also enjoyed Al Pacino movies," the obituary says. Jones suffers from a mental illness and has an arrest history including simple battery and weapons charges, the report says. |
