New trial date set in Charleston slaying after mistrial - black man (allegedly) murdered white man over $3,000 heroin debt A judge set a new trial date Thursday in the case of a man charged with murder whose first trial ended in mistrial earlier this month. Tremaine Jackson’s trial is set for Nov. 28, said Kanawba Circuit Judge Charles King. Jackson’s lawyer asked for a mistrial earlier this month, after jurors had deliberated almost three days. Taniqra Payne is charged with perjury, after King said she went to the scene where Jackson allegedly shot Brian Rogers last December on Charleston’s West Side and then lied about it. Rogers was shot and killed near Littlepage Terrace. During the trial, Rogers’ father saw Payne at the place Rogers was shot and took her photograph, the judge has said. Payne conducted her own investigation and talked to other jurors about it, according to the judge. Jackson, prosecutors say, killed Rogers over a $3,000 heroin debt. Jackson says he wasn’t the shooter and that Charleston police coerced a confession that was video taped. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Man bonded over to superior court in case of his shooting his (white) girlfriend - (Was he screwing her mother?) Antoine Bernard Ladson allegedly was splattered in blood when police entered the bedroom Aug. 25 where his 21-year-old girlfriend lay dying of a gunshot to the head, according to testimony given Friday. Police had arrived at the home at 2318 Gordon St. to a call that Amy Dean had committed suicide, but at least two Brunswick police officers said they were within earshot when Ladson allegedly told his mother that he had made a big mistake and needed a lawyer. Additionally, police learned that Ladson allegedly had argued with Dean over allegations he was part of a love triangle that involved the victim and her mother, Elizabeth Grovner. Futch said Jamie Dean had told her twin earlier that day she suspected Ladson was having an affair with their mother. Amy Dean later confronted Ladson about this and the attention he was giving to another woman, Futch said. - (Black-on-white) |
