(Black) Hayward man convicted of murder for shooting of (White) 80-year-old woman HAYWARD -- A 23-year-old man was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday for his role in the fatal shooting of an 80-year-old East Bay woman during a home-invasion robbery in 2010. The Alameda County Superior Court jury deliberated for two weeks before announcing its verdict in the trial of Ayodele Patterson. Patterson was convicted for his role in the killing of Carolyn Pavon in her Hayward Hills home. Pavon, the widow of a longtime Oakland firefighter, was shot four times while on her living room couch reading a book. She was a grandmother and a great-grandmother who had several family members in the area. The 80-year-old woman planned on going to Disneyland with her great-granddaughter before she was killed. Prosecutors said Patterson was one of three men, along with Lionel Harris and Donnie Howard, both of Hayward, who participated in robbing and killing Pavon. Harris, 25, was charged with murder but pleaded no contest to manslaughter in a deal that promises a 12-year sentence in exchange for an honest testimony. Howard, 26, was convicted last December of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Patterson faces a 25-year-to-life term when he is sentenced in November. - (Black-on-white) |

It happened at the Flash Foods gas station in Hinesville, off of Oglethorpe Highway on Monday. Here’s what the woman says happened. So I go running over there and the father of the baby had the mom and the baby both in a knee lock and had a knife at the (black) baby's throat," said Kristal Peters, Good Samaritan. "I was scared but I went ahead and reached in between the two of them and grabbed the baby and then I backed up right here in between the pumps." Peters says the man wasn't done. He started circling them in the car, and when he was far enough away, she decided to make a run for it to the convenience store holding the baby tight. "I just remember getting hit. I don't remember how I fell. I don't remember anything after that. I just remember getting up and running into the store,” Peters said. A store employee said they quickly locked the door. The man then backed the vehicle up, narrowly missing the baby's head. A convenience store worker told us the man then backed the vehicle up, missing the baby's head by inches. The woman then grabbed the baby and went inside the store along with the mother, and the employee locked the door. Police arrived moments later and took 23-year-old Aaron Williams into custody. Officials say he is charged with aggravated assault and may face several other charges as well. Peters is recovering from a broken toe, a knot on the back of her head and other injuries but said she is just glad everyone made it out alive. "Emotional. A little traumatized by it but whew. Venice Beach Ambush: A Beverly Hills Surgeon on Being Pistol-Whipped and Left for Dead - (Drudge) In a nightmare scenario, a well-known physician was brutally attacked inside his BMW after leaving a seaside restaurant. A slight- looking African-American woman with curly, almost bushy, hair stared intently back. At her side was a man. And then, very suddenly, Lee wasn’t alone anymore. Sitting in his passenger seat, cushioned in the same soft leather he was in, was a man. Like the pair, he was African American, mid-20s, dressed casually, about 5'10", medium build. Everywhere. “I don’t know why they targeted me,” he said. Asian males were actually frequent targets because of the perception that they carried wads of cash on them at all times, the tech said. |
