The final report was released Wednesday, more than three months after Max Gracia II was found unresponsive in his cell. Officers said Gracia broke free, ran toward a lake and jumped in. Gracia ran out of the water and fought with a police K-9. After fighting with the dog, Gracia entered the water again and refused to comply with the officers' orders to swim to shore, police said. After nearly two hours in the water, two officers were able to take the still-resistant Gracia into custody by wading into the lake and arresting him. |

Catholic Monk accused of abuse had 200 sexual partners, some were child prostitutes ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Father Finian McDonald, who for years worked as a counselor at St. John's University, had sex with at least 200 people and paid child prostitutes for sex while abroad, according to documents released on Tuesday. Attorney Jeff Anderson released the personnel files of five monks and priests who were part of St. John's Abbey in Collegeville. The five, including two who are now deceased, were previously listed by St. John's Abbey as credibly accused of child sexual abuse. Anderson said the redacted version of the posted on his website, show that priests who admitted battles with sexual urges still had access to potential victims. "What the files show us is a culture of permissive access by known offenders," said Anderson, who for decades has represented child sex abuse victims in lawsuits against the Catholic Church and other institutions. McDonald also admitted to the psychologist that he had stolen from church collection plates and paid young male prostitutes for sex while working in Japan. The other files Anderson released Tuesday related to Frances Hoefgen, Bruce Wollmering, Richard Eckroth and Tom Gillespie. |

(Black) sentenced to life in prison for death of (queer) 68-year-old he met on Craigslist A Dallas County jury on Thursday issued a guilty verdict in the capital murder trial of Christopher Beachum, who was accused of killing a 68-year-old man he met on Craigslist. Beachum, who turned 30 last weekend, automatically received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Jurors deliberated for about five and a half hours over two days before agreeing on Beachum’s guilt, according to the Dallas County district attorney’s office. Their decision comes after previous panels twice caused a mistrial because they could not reach a verdict. Beachum stabbed and strangled Gerald Canepa, a retired computer programmer who lived alone in Oak Cliff, in 2013 after he responded to Canepa’s online ad seeking sex. Prosecutor Elaine Evans argued that Beachum plotted to rob and kill Canepa. A television, cellphone and electronics were stolen from Canepa’s home, records show. - (Black-on-white) |

‘A rotten crime’: (Black) Rock Hill thief crawls on floor, steals from (White female one-legged) disabled worker ROCK HILL - Veronica Erwin has a prosthetic leg and foot, but she still walks uncountable steps every day at Rock Hill’s Kwik Klean laundry. Eight hours a day, she pushes a broom and washes and folds other people’s clothes. She is by no means wealthy, but she sees people at the laundry who are worse off financially than she. Her hand goes into her pocket and always comes out with something for somebody who might need a decent meal. For years, Erwin, 52, also has stood at every home basketball game, cheering and waving. On Tuesday, somebody took advantage of the woman who works and cheers on one leg. A man walked into the laundry and spoke with Erwin. He made nice. She spoke to him as kindly as she speaks to everyone who comes into her world. But this man waited for Erwin to empty the trash, and as her back was turned at the other end of the building, the man crawled long the floor, slithering like a snake, and stole the day’s receipts for which Erwin had worked so hard. - (Black-on-white) |
