Reward offered for whereabouts of black suspect in 2012 murder of White grandmother
     A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted on homicide charges stemming from the 2012 robbery of a Wilson woman. Quadir Shahidd Taylor, 28, is charged with homicide, robbery and other offenses in a warrant filed this month after a grand jury investigation. Two gunmen awoke Carrie Smith, 76, in the middle of the night Jan. 15, 2012, and threatened to shoot her as she struggled to open a safe for them inside her Hillside Avenue home. Smith suffered from a number of health ailments, but doctors ruled her death was due to complications as a result of the robbery. Rebecca L. Johnson, Smith's granddaughter, and Johnson's ex-boyfriend, Rogel I. Suero, 33, were convicted of murder and other charges by a jury in October 2013. They were sentenced to life in prison without parole. Johnson's cousin, David Bechtold, 21, of Wilson pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit robbery. He was the group's getaway driver. He received a sentence of one to two years in jail and five years of probation and has been released from prison. Bechtold testified against Johnson and Suero at her trial, but couldn't identify Taylor other than by the street name, "Avon." However, Johnson testified before a grand jury in June and identified Taylor as "Avon," and admitted meeting Suero and Taylor at a barbershop where, she said, they split up more than $42,000 in loot. A uniformed Texas sheriff's deputy was shot and killed at a gas station late Friday in what police called a bizarre incident. Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Darren H. Goforth, 47, had just come out of the convenience store of a Houston Chevron gas station where he had filled his patrol car when a man "walked up behind him and literally shot him to death," Sheriff Ron Hickman said at a news conference. After Goforth fell to the ground, the suspect stood over him and fired several more times. "It appears to be an unprovoked execution-style killing of a police officer," Hickman said. A man "believed to be the alleged gunman" in the killing of a uniformed Houston-area sheriff's deputy was in custody and being questioned Saturday morning, Sgt. William Kennard of the Texas Department of Public Safety told CNN. No charges have been filed against the man, Kennard said. The man's name wasn't given. 
Brian W. Hill didn’t show any emotion on Friday when a Franklin County jury convicted him of killing a woman in a drive-by shooting last year in North Linden. He’s been through the experience before. In 1991, a jury found him guilty of aggravated murder for killing a man during a drug deal. Hill, 47, spent 18 years in prison for that slaying. This time, he could be sentenced to life without parole. The jury in the drive-by case convicted Hill of aggravated murder, attempted murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. 
WAYNESBORO, MS - A Waynesboro man has been arrested in connection to a murder at an apartment complex. The Columbia man convicted of stabbing a woman 25 times in a home invasion received a lengthy prison sentence Wednesday morning in Lancaster County Court. Elswart R. Bodden, 24, was sentenced 27½ to 75 years in prison for the home invasion and attack on the an unidentified woman. Additionally, Bodden must pay more than $410,000 in restitution to the victim to cover costs of her extensive injuries. Bodden was convicted of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, theft by unlawful taking, fleeing police, and recklessly endangering another person. Police initially described the stabbing as brutal, supported by the victim's testimony on the hour-long attack, in which Bodden stabbed her 25 times, according to a Lancaster Online report. CLEVELAND, Ohio – Tests of formerly neglected rape-kit evidence indicate that two men may have worked as a team, serially robbing and raping multiple victims together. The men were linked to three unsolved rapes dating from 2001, after DNA evidence in their cases was examined under a state program aimed at catching up on thousands of previously untested rape kits. Over the past two years, that project has identified 269 suspected or convicted serial rapists in Cuyahoga County. Michael Perry and Thomas Nicholson were indicted Wednesday on multiple counts of rape, robbery and kidnapping. Investigators are still working to identify a third suspect involved in the attacks.

An unidentified woman filed a suit against the Chicago Bulls player on Wednesday. The suit, which can be read in full on the Chicago Tribune website, was filed Wednesday by an unidentified women who accuses Derrick Rose and two other men of drugging her and gang-raping her in Aug. 2013. The woman, who claims she dated Rose from 2011 to 2013, says the men slipped something into her drink while at the former MVP’s Beverly Hills home. According to her account, she was able to escape, but later that night Rose and his friends broke into her apartment and sexually assaulted her while she was incapacitated.

The man who shot and killed a reporter and cameraman on live television this morning is believed to be a former employee of WDBJ in Virginia. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe stated in a press conference that police have the man's name and license plate number, but had chosen not to release the information. Shortly thereafter, the man was identified by police as Vester Lee Flanagan. A source who was at the press conference at which Flanagan was identified as the suspect says, “He was described as a light skinned black male, with brown eyes and black hair, 6 foot 3 inches tall and approximately 250 pounds. They believe he is armed with a handgun.” McAuliffe says that police are in "active pursuit" of the suspected shooter and will likely have him in custody within the hour. Flanagan is said to be traveling on I-64, which runs east to west across Virginia. Little is known about Flanagan at this time, and it is unclear if he intended to target victims

An Independence man has admitted raping a Kenner woman whose home he burglarized daily before assaulting her. Brandon Watkins, 25, pleaded guilty to forcible rape and burglary in the December 2013 attack. Police said Watkins was on parole when he broke into the 28-year-old woman's Clemson Place home in the middle of the night. Watkins told authorities he had gone into the woman's bedroom in search of money. When she awoke, the pair tussled before he raped her and fled, police said. Watkins also told authorities he had been entering her apartment through a window daily for a month.
Newport News, Va. – A man and woman were arrested Monday evening for a public sex act on 29th street. Police responded to the 200 block of 29th Street at 6:03pm for reports of the sex act. When officers arrived they found a 44-year-old Kia Lavonne Dabney and 44-year-old Thomas A. Robinson engaging in the act in public view. Dabney was arrested and charged with one count each of indecent exposure and public intoxication. Robinson was charged with one count each of indecent exposure, public intoxication and possession of marijuana.

A source says the owner told investigators she moved the bodies from the funeral home because of the smell. One neighbor says she saw a pickup truck drop off the bodies at the garage on Saturday. Janet Powell Dailey has not been charged with a crime. State Board of Funeral Directors spokesperson says while Dailey has a license to be a funeral director, the funeral home's license expired last year. Both are required.

FERGUSON, Mo. — Ferguson’s new municipal judge ordered massive changes Monday in the city’s much-criticized municipal court, a move he said is aimed at restoring confidence in the system and easing the burden on needy defendants. Changes announced by Judge Donald McCullin include withdrawing many old arrest warrants and giving defendants new court dates and payment options. The new plan allows for community service or fines to be commuted for the indigent. McCullin will also reinstate driver’s license for all defendants who lost their license for failing to appear in court or failing to pay a fine, pending final disposition of the case. Blacks make up about two-thirds of Ferguson’s 21,000 residents.
