No arrests after reports of (black) 'wilding' in Uptown CHICAGO - No one was arrested when police dispersed a large group of teens—what some residents called a “wilding”—Monday night in Uptown. It started out as a peaceful birthday gathering in the Field House at Chase Park. However, after it ended around 10 p.m. Monday night, the sweet sixteen party quickly soured and the party goers turned into a frightening group of vandals as they stormed down Leland. Video of the incident was captured by a resident on Leland. It shows some of the teens walking down the middle of the street, but it's what the video did not capture that has residents in the neighborhood angry. “I looked outside and just like a storm of kids were running down and started running up on cars and banging windows,” said vandalism victim Magen Rooney. Rooney's car was one of many that were damaged. The hood was crumpled in and the roof also stomped on. “I figured they came, ran, jumped, because you see there's footprints all the way back,” Rooney added. Another victim said the hood of her new car was smashed in. “It seemed like someone had seated himself full body into the car like a massive imprint,” Amy Robinson said. When the teens left they caused mayhem as they headed down Leland reportedly videotaping one another busting windows and damaging cars. The vandals even reportedly banged on one moving vehicle and grabbed the driver after opening the door. - (Black-on-white) |

Black violence erupts again in black town where a black teen was shot in a struggle with a gun in a police car Violence again erupted in the St. Louis area near the site of the police shooting death of a black teenager, according to local police, despite calls by U.S. President Barack Obama and activists for a measured response. Early on Wednesday, a police officer shot and critically wounded a man who drew a handgun near the site of protests over the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, a St. Louis County Police Department officer said. Police responded about an hour after midnight to reports of four or five men with shotguns and wearing ski masks. They encountered multiple suspects running, one of whom pulled a gun on an officer, who fired at him, the county officer said. The man was taken to an area hospital. Shortly after midnight, police fired tear gas into protesters who had confronted a line of officers after a far larger crowd dispersed, St. Louis County Police Department spokesman Brian Schellman said. The incidents followed two nights of violent protests, looting and arrests in Ferguson, the largely black St. Louis suburb where the shooting of Brown took place. Also on Wednesday, a woman was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting blocks from the area where Brown was killed. Ferguson has seen a stark demographic shift in recent decades, going from all white to mostly black. |

She then ran, grabbed her child, and went into a bedroom, where she grabbed a shotgun and pointed it at the men. "He said, 'This is my new house. I'm here to stay.' I said, 'Not at this residence.' I put the gun to his face and the gun clicked and he ran," she said. Walker told deputies that she tried to shoot the intruders, but there was no shell in the chamber of the gun.
